Chapter 22 - How Naive

The thought of these dead walkers leveling up this easily was a little disturbing though. There was one more thing he hadn't considered... affinity.

Do these dead walkers also have affinities or is that something only humans are capable of... 'Is this the trade off between levels?'

He shook his head and increased his speed again since leveling up made him totally recover in his stamina. Shortly after he left the city and began running on the main road going to the society.

It was just as empty as the road going to his own society. After a few minutes he reached the place. The scene was similar to what he had expected.

It felt like a totally ghosted area. He entered inside and at the start he met his first group of dead walkers and right now, they were fighting amongst themselves.

'It seems I don't have to wait long before these bastards get to level 1'

There were total 7 of them and he didn't want to create a ruckus in this society yet with his attacks. He had a good feeling that this society had more dead walkers than his own, later he would use them to gather evolution crystals.

He quietly took a diversion and moved by the outskirts and entered the area where he found fewer dead walkers. He moved slowly avoiding their gazes.

It wasn't hard since they don't usually turn their heads to look around and only turn themselves when they hear sounds.

His aunt's home wasn't too deep in the society so he reached there easily without alerting any single of the dead walkers.

His eyes lit up when he saw the gate of the house still intact and closed. This means no one at least was able to force themselves inside.

There were bones scattered around the gate and pieces of clothing which were torn like peeling of fruits made it obvious that these dead bodies were eaten by dead walkers.

Even if dead walkers don't attack infected, they eat them if they are dead.

Lukas looked towards the wall of the property and he could see dried blood splattered on them.

These walls were fortified the same way as the walls of his own house were, in fact it was from the same company. Their stepmother had told aunt to do it and it finally showed its value.

That blood though definitely came due to a different reason... 'If I am not wrong then...' He looked towards the roof... 'Maybe aunt shot them'

He looked around and not finding any dead walkers, he made his way to the gates. The electricity is working so he rang the bell... 'I hope she comes to check or else I have to enter inside as an intruder and trigger the safety mechanism... that's the last thing I want to do'

He kept an eye on the street and a few seconds passed when a few dead walkers walked past in the perpendicular street next to this street, he hid himself behind the thickness of the walls which were holding the gate.

'Is she alive or not...' It was taking too long and every second passed was making him think the worse.

Tap! Tap!

Suddenly he heard faint footsteps and looked towards the rooftop. A woman with a little frowning expression and holding a handgun came to the edge and looking at her beautiful face he sighed in relief.

She seemed to have lost some weight but nonetheless she was fine...

"Lukas?"

Lukas heard her little weak haggard tone and nodded, "It's me aunt..."

Emily's eyes lit up before she immediately thought of something, "A-are you alright?" She didn't want to assume the worst but given the circumstances of this world and the difficulties she had faced till now, she had to ask.

Lukas sighed, he understood her insecurities and it's good that she was on guard like this, "Aunt I am already an evolver..." He made the bow vanish and bring it back, "Now open this gate fast or dead walkers might gather around here"

Emily got surprised, she was quite elated hearing that, "Wait a minute, I am coming..."

She immediately dashed, even though she was weak, she felt a hope of surviving, not to mention her nephew was alive so there was a very good chance that her nieces were alive too.

Lukas waited outside and shortly he heard the sound of her running footsteps before she unlocked the door and opened it. He entered inside and immediately Emily closed the door.

Lukas saw that she wasn't carrying the gun anymore, he smirked and decided to play a prank. He also wanted to test something... he put his hand on her shoulders and slightly pushed her against the gate...

THUMP!

"Wha—"

"How naive aunt..." Lukas shook his head while looking at her confused expression, "You let the infected me inside the house..." He decreased the distance and her sweet smell hit his nostrils, "I am going to eat you now"

Although he had decreased the distance, he still didn't touch her anywhere inappropriately, even when he wanted to do it badly.

Emily's eyes widened in horror, she still was in a confused stage... "L-Lukas—"

"Hehehe..." Lukas could see that she really was scared so he backed off immediately, "It was just a joke aunt..."

Emily frowned then gritted her teeth, "It wasn't funny..." she really had been living on edge for the past month and when she thought that slowly she would just die out of starvation or going on the streets to find food, he appeared.

She was so much relieved and happy that this joke for a moment broke all her hopes and the despair was too much.

Lukas could feel her anger, "Sorry aunt, It seems that you have had it rough for the past month... let's go inside and talk"

Emily took a deep breath, "Alright... just don't pull something like that again"

Lukas shook his head without saying anything.
