Chapter 4
Alethrisha POV
I lay on my bed after a long, demanding day, my thoughts betraying me despite my efforts to quiet them. I found myself remembering the broad, confident line of his back as he left the meeting earlier.
He had not tried to flatter me. He had not sought my attention. Instead, he proved value and competence, allowing his work to speak for him. Most men addressed the Reinhafer name before they addressed me. He spoke to me as a person. I could not explain why that unsettled me, only that it did.
I sighed softly, annoyed with my own thoughts, took a bath, and returned to bed, determined to disperse them.
Three months had passed since that meeting.
I was now scheduled to supervise the logistics operation firsthand, which led me back to the company handling our European distribution.
According to Mike, the company had been established five years ago. Its name was Seth Arclay Trade and Logistics, and its founder and CEO was William Alexander Seth. The company had grown steadily over the years, but this project had given it increased exposure and a firmer reputation in the market.
We met at his office to review progress. The operations were efficient, precise, and well-managed. Throughout the meeting, his gaze remained subtle yet respectful. It was a look I had seen only in my parents' eyes, measured and sincere. I maintained my calm demeanor, as expected.
Still, I noticed details I had no reason to dwell on.
The elegance of his hand gestures. The discipline in his posture, which reminded me uncomfortably of my father. The faint presence of jasmine tea, deliberate but understated. Everything about him suggested restraint and control.
When the meeting concluded, I felt an unexpected twinge of dissatisfaction. I wanted more time. More observation.
He was charming, undeniably competent, and, though I would never admit it aloud, quite handsome.
As I left his office, I realized I was already anticipating our next meeting.
The realization unsettled me.
