Chapter 66 - Goku vs. Broly (Part 2)

BANG! CRASH! KABOOM!

The moment Goku turned and flew, Broly took the bait. Instantly, the two titans clashed. Their golden auras seared the void; each collision tore the earth and pulverized stone. In mere moments, the terrain around them was utterly annihilated. The sheer ferocity of their battle sent chills down the spines of Kuririn and the others watching from a distance.

BANG!

Broly's fist, thrown with murderous intent, missed its mark and slammed into the ground instead. The planet shuddered. The earth split open like a ripe fruit, and molten rock sprayed into the air, instantly igniting the surrounding area. Within seconds, a bubbling, volcanic cauldron of magma had formed around them.

The fragile Earth clearly couldn't withstand their war. If this continued, the planet would be cracked open like an egg.

Goku realized this immediately. Earth was his home. He had no intention of letting it be collateral damage. Feinting a desperate attack, he threw a full-power punch at Broly. Using the moment of mutual recoil to create distance, he turned and shot into the sky, rocketing away from the planet's surface.

"KAKAROT! DON'T THINK YOU CAN ESCAPE!" Broly roared, falling for the ploy completely. He shot into pursuit, a green-and-gold comet of rage tearing through the atmosphere after Goku's golden streak.

In the cold vacuum of space, their battle became a contest of speed. Broly, hot on Goku's tail, fired a relentless barrage of ki blasts, each one a miniature sun seeking to obliterate its target. Goku weaved and dodged with hair's-breadth precision, each near-miss driving Broly into a deeper, more violent fury. The aura around the Legendary Super Saiyan intensified, his power climbing, his speed increasing. Slowly, he began to close the gap.

"KAKAROT, YOU CAN'T RUN FOREVER!" Another blast from Broly vaporized a nearby asteroid the size of a small moon.

"Damn it! I didn't steal your wife! What's with this lifelong vendetta?!" Goku complained internally as he flew for his life. He genuinely didn't understand the source of Broly's all-consuming, irrational hatred.

Unaware of Goku's inner turmoil, Broly continued his one-man asteroid-clearing operation, blasting any celestial debris in their path to dust. He was a veritable King of Destruction, leaving a trail of cosmic rubble in his wake.

Just as Broly was about to get within grappling distance, Goku smirked. Shunkan Idō. He vanished, reappearing dozens of kilometers ahead, and resumed his flight, continuing the deadly game of tag. Broly's frustrated roars echoed psychically through the void. Yet, with each roar, his power demonstrably inched higher.

Goku noticed. Anger is fuel for a Saiyan. The madder they get, the stronger they become. And Broly… he's the furnace where that rage burns hottest.

"If this keeps up, it'll be trouble. I can't afford to provoke him any further." Using Instant Transmission once more to establish a safe buffer, Goku finally stopped running. He turned, hovering in the silent void, and waited.

"Hmph! Given up, Kakarot? I'm going to tear you apart!" Broly's eyes blazed with homicidal intent. Perhaps his hatred stemmed from a primal, prophetic knowledge—as the Legendary Super Saiyan, he had foreseen Goku as his destined rival, a stumbling block to his supremacy that needed to be eradicated.

"As expected of the Legendary Super Saiyan. Moving freely in the vacuum of space… I imagine the ki field surrounding your body acts as a life-support system, right?" Goku ignored the threats, his voice calm as he analyzed his foe.

"DIE, KAKAROT!" Broly had no interest in conversation. He roared and charged, a battering ram of emerald light.

"Fine, let's fight! But could you stop calling me that? My name is Son Goku!" Goku shouted back, exasperated. With a final, powerful surge, he erupted with the maximum power of a Super Saiyan Grade 4 and met Broly's charge head-on.

Their battle became a symphony of speed and overwhelming force. Every impact released shockwaves of energy that instantly pulverized any asteroid unfortunate enough to be nearby. Soon, the space around them was eerily empty, swept clean. Only the two golden blurs remained, clashing, separating, and clashing again, occasionally punctuating the silence with the brilliant flash of a concentrated energy blast.

But Super Saiyan 1, even at its peak, was not enough. Before long, Broly's fist, accelerated by his ever-growing rage, connected squarely with Goku's abdomen. The impact forced a pained grunt from Goku, breaking his rhythm for a critical second.

Broly seized the opening. A devastating combo of blows rained down on Goku's guard. Finally, a point-blank ki blast sent the Saiyan hero tumbling end-over-end through the starry darkness.

"Hah… Hah… As expected of the Legendary Super Saiyan. Super Saiyan 1 really isn't cutting it." Goku righted himself, breathing heavily. The bruises and internal damage faded from his body at a visible rate, his nigh-immortal constitution fully asserting itself. His breathing steadied, and his aura settled.

"Looks like it's time to get serious." With a focused thought, his eyes began to change. Concentric, rippling patterns emerged, glowing with otherworldly power. The Shingan—the Eyes of God—activated.

"Amaterasu."

Pitch-black flames, darker than the void itself, erupted around Broly, clinging to his golden aura. Yet, Broly stood unharmed within the inferno, a look of pure confusion replacing his rage. What kind of pathetic trick was this?

The cursed flames were completely held at bay by the sheer density of Broly's protective ki field. While the intense heat was uncomfortable, it couldn't penetrate to burn his flesh. With an annoyed roar, Broly flexed his power. A violent pulse of energy exploded outward, scattering the black flames into nothingness.

"You've got to be kidding me! What a rip-off!" Goku felt a wave of frustration. When he'd tested Amaterasu before, its destructive power had been terrifying. He never expected it to be completely nullified by raw ki defense. Then again, power scaling in the Dragon Ball universe is just built different.

Unwilling to concede, Goku next attempted Tsukuyomi. The powerful genjutsu did nothing but make Broly blink in momentary confusion. At Broly's level of power, willpower and spiritual fortitude were mountains. Unless Goku's spiritual energy vastly surpassed his, illusions were useless.

"Then how about this?" Goku watched Broly charge again. This time, he didn't dodge or block. Instead, he stood his ground and activated a Space-Time Ninjutsu with his Shingan, manipulating the space directly in front of him.

Broly's fist, wreathed in annihilating energy, smashed toward the distorted space…

CRACK!

The manipulated space shattered like glass under the overwhelming force. Broly's fist carried through unimpeded and connected squarely with Goku's jaw.

BANG!

Goku was sent spinning backward through space again.

"Pfft! Damn it… what a trash-tier ability!" Goku spat out a glob of blood, his displeasure evident. "Almost knocked my teeth out." The lesson was clear: makeshift space-time manipulations born of ocular power were no match for a brute-force reality check from a being like Broly. It wasn't true law; it was a cheap trick, and it had just failed spectacularly.

ChubbyChaebol here! Guys, I'm going on a diet to lose some of this… uh… distinguished padding. But I'm only surviving on two things: Oxygen and Power Stones. Which one should I cut back on?
