Chapter 42 - Two Misunderstandings

Elion's mind was a complete mess. His head still hurt, but that feeling of dying had disappeared after sleeping for who knows how many hours. When he looked to his left, he saw Gretel naked and thought, "Did I really do it?"

Of course, it wasn't the drugs. Today in particular, Elion had reached extremely high levels of stress, and he couldn't think of a better idea than having sex with a murderous woman who was known throughout the hotel for her cruelty. If Elion screwed up, Gretel could cut his balls off.

"I'm hungry, I'll look for something to eat." With a plan in mind, Elion left a note with his phone number, got dressed, and left the room.

Walking through the hotel, Elion realized that perhaps Parker had already made his move.

Now that Parker has already made his move, it's better to go out and see the results as soon as possible.

After all, Albert, that old fox, has an expression that is difficult to read.

But even with all the commotion in the hotel, Elion found it hard to confirm whether Parker had succeeded. And now he needed to find Charon and ask where to buy information of any kind.

The world is so big that if he went around looking for such sensitive information on his own, who knows when he would run into trouble.

At that moment, the intelligence network owned by the Continental Hotel was his best option.

When Elion left the room area, he was surprised to discover that the outside was still calm.

As calm as yesterday and the day before yesterday.

It was as if it hadn't been affected at all.

Elion frowned. Had Parker done nothing? Confused, he walked straight toward the reception desk.

When he saw Charon standing there gracefully, Elion approached and lightly tapped the desk to get Karen's attention.

"I just heard at the bar that Winston is temporarily hiring a qualified professional. Do you know what it's for?" Charon looked at Elion and said expressionlessly, "It's not good for newcomers to be too curious. Remember, in our line of work, the less you know, the longer you live."

Elion wasn't surprised by Charon's response; he had been prepared for it. He chuckled softly and quickly rubbed his clothes. "Hey, I'm just getting ready to treat potential patients. If I knew things were about to get heated, I could prepare the medicine in advance."

"And what if I get ahead of a great fieldwork opportunity? Double the pay!"

Seeing Elion's desperate appearance, Charon shook her head helplessly and gave him a few hints.

"Don't even think about it. This is just a cleanup inside the hotel; it has nothing to do with you.

Go home and get some sleep. Remember to lock the door properly; today will probably be restless." Charon didn't say much, but the information she revealed was enough for Elion to assess the situation.

It seems that Parker failed in his escape attempt. Just as he had guessed, without the protagonist's halo, Parker had no chance of killing one of the High Table's representatives.

However, Parker's skills certainly didn't make him a useless assassin.

At the very least, he managed to escape after the assassination attempt failed. As for how long he can stay on the run, that depends on whether he has even a fraction of John's fighting skills.

Hearing the response, Elion pretended to be ignorant and sighed. "Alright, remember to call me. By the way, speaking of making money… A guy from the hospital borrowed four thousand dollars from me and then just disappeared. If I want to find this person, is there any intelligence network available in the hotel?"

"It's not about the money; I just don't want my acquaintances to see me as an idiot."

Charon looked at Elion again and thought, "You're just after the money, aren't you?" However, Charon had no reason to refuse the legitimate requests of members. She wrote down a series of numbers directly on the paper and then raised a finger toward Elion.

"One search opportunity, one gold coin. Deal?" Elion nodded slightly and said, "I understand."

Charon handed over the piece of paper containing the account and password. It seemed to be used to log into intelligence networks. Having obtained the information he wanted, Elion naturally didn't stay there any longer.

He soon returned to the door of his room after leaving food for Gretel. However, Elion keenly noticed a trace of dried blood on the inside of his doorknob. It seemed as if an uninvited guest had been here, and might even be inside now.

Having a vague idea of who the visitor was, Elion simply smiled and, without hesitation, opened the door and walked in. The furnishings inside the room didn't seem to have changed at all from usual.

But then the sound of a gun safety being released came from behind the door. Elion raised his hand cooperatively and pretended to say, "This is a hotel on neutral ground. If you kill someone, assassins will hunt you for the rest of your life."

"I suggest you take the money and leave; I won't report you."

"Doctor, it's me. I need a little help." When the familiar voice sounded, the cold barrel of a pistol pressed against Elion's waist.

"Parker? Is that you? If you need help, I'll help you, of course. But we don't need to do this, understand?"

Parker behind him seemed to shake his head. "Under special circumstances, I'm not sure I can trust you. Now, slowly turn around with your hands raised."

Elion did as he was told, and Parker behind him now looked even worse. He held a pistol in one hand, aiming it at Elion, while his other hand hung limply at his side, apparently injured.

At the same time, drops of blood seeped from somewhere, dripping down his pant leg and forming a puddle behind the door.

"Parker, you look terrible."

Parker forced a smile. "Of course. Killing one of the three heads of the Crows wasn't an easy task. I never imagined that this guy would have a bodyguard hidden under his bed twenty-four hours a day while he slept. As a result, I paid a considerable price."

"Alright, I really can't hold on much longer, doctor. You need to hurry." Parker gestured for Elion to come closer, lifting his chin.

Elion nodded, raised his hands, and slowly approached Parker, then said, "Parker, I'm going to lower my hand. Please don't accidentally shoot."

Parker smiled, and seeing Elion's cooperation, tilted the gun slightly downward to indicate that even if he fired, it wouldn't be fatal. But he didn't expect that just as the doctor approaching him was about to reach out and unfasten his clothes, he would suddenly change positions.

One hand went straight to the trigger of the gun to prevent it from being pulled.

At the same time, his other hand turned into an invisible shadow and swiftly struck the side of Parker's neck.

Parker's carotid sinus was immediately hit with a violent blow.

Parker, who had already lost too much blood, suddenly passed out due to insufficient blood and oxygen supply to his brain.

At the moment he lost consciousness, Parker had only one thought in his mind: I'm dead!

Seeing Parker lying on the floor, Elion first kicked the pistol that had fallen to the ground.

Then he tied Parker to the chair, calculated the exact moment when Parker would bleed out, and dialed Charon's number at the reception at just that moment.

While waiting for security to arrive, Elion looked at his hands curiously. He had just decided to devote a day of his life to strengthening his limbs.

Although Parker's injuries and the excessive use of adrenaline had left him exhausted and slowed his reaction time, allowing Elion to successfully launch a sneak attack.

But most crucially, this sudden improvement gave unparalleled strength to a guy who couldn't lift heavy objects due to severe internal exhaustion.

This caused Parker, who had been trained to withstand blows, to fall unconscious on the floor.
