Chapter 48 - Chapter 48 — The Beast King and the Girl Who Shouldn’t Be Here

Year X779 — Early Summer

Location: Deep Forest Ruins near Magnolia

Age: Ren (14) | Erza (14) | Mirajane (14)

---

The forest felt wrong.

Not hostile—not yet—but strained, like the air itself was holding its breath.

Ren noticed it first.

Each step forward made the warmth of his Sun Breathing ripple strangely, as if the light inside him was brushing against something that didn't belong to this world.

> Dimensional overlap, he thought grimly.

Edolas… it's closer than I hoped.

Ahead of him, Erza moved with sharp precision, armor shifting quietly as she adjusted for terrain. Mirajane walked just behind her, expression calm—but Ren could feel the tight coil of emotion beneath her controlled breathing.

Too controlled.

"…We're close," Erza said softly.

Mira nodded. "…I feel it."

They emerged into a ruined clearing—collapsed stone pillars, ancient markings scorched into the earth, and at the center—

A massive shadow moved.

Heavy footsteps cracked stone.

A roar rolled through the trees, deep and primal.

The Beast King stepped into the light.

A towering creature of muscle and dark fur, horns curling back like a crown, eyes glowing with feral intelligence. Magic poured off him in suffocating waves—violent, ancient, hungry.

"…That's not a monster," Erza muttered. "…That's a ruler."

Ren inhaled slowly.

> Sun Breathing — Constant.

"…We end this fast," he said. "…Before it reaches the town."

Mirajane's hands clenched.

"…Agreed."

The Beast King roared again—and charged.

---

The Clash

Erza met it head-on.

Armor flashed—Heaven's Wheel—dozens of swords raining down in a storm of steel. The Beast King snarled, swatting blades aside, taking several deep cuts but never slowing.

Ren moved in a blur of light.

> Sun Breathing — First Form.

His blade carved a burning arc across the Beast King's flank, heat searing fur and flesh. The creature howled, stumbling back a step.

Mirajane struck next—magic surging, controlled but fierce. Demonic energy wrapped her arm as she delivered a crushing blow to its jaw, sending the massive creature skidding across the stone.

For a moment—

It worked.

Then the Beast King laughed.

A deep, mocking sound.

"…Little demons," it growled. "…Little suns. Little knights."

Its magic exploded outward.

The ground cracked.

Ren skidded back, boots digging furrows into stone. Erza crossed blades to block the blast. Mirajane's breathing wavered—but only for a heartbeat.

> Steady, she told herself. I won't lose it.

Then—

A flash of white light tore through the air.

The Beast King froze.

So did Mirajane.

A figure stood between them—small, pale, glowing faintly with unfamiliar magic.

White hair.

Soft eyes.

A face Mirajane knew better than her own reflection.

"…Lisanna?" she whispered.

The world tilted.

"…Mira…?" the girl said, voice trembling.

Ren's heart dropped.

> Edolas signature confirmed.

Erza stepped forward instantly. "…Mira, get back—!"

But Mirajane couldn't move.

The girl looked down at her hands. "…I don't understand… one moment I was falling… and then I was here."

The Beast King roared in fury, swinging a massive claw—

Ren moved without thinking.

> Sun Breathing — Third Form.

Light erupted.

He placed himself between Mirajane, Lisanna, and the Beast King, blade burning bright enough to cast long shadows across the ruins.

"…Don't touch them," Ren said quietly.

The Beast King recoiled, snarling.

"…Sun-bearer… you reeks of other worlds."

Ren didn't deny it.

Lisanna confused and shaking. "…Mira… I don't know how I'm here… but I'm scared."

Erza glanced at Ren, eyes sharp.

"…We end this now."

Ren nodded.

---

Trio vs Beast King

They moved as one.

Erza charged high—armor shifting mid-air, blade striking down with crushing force. Ren followed beneath, light trailing his sword like a comet.

Mirajane stood.

Her breathing steadied.

Not forced.

Not suppressed.

Accepted.

> This power isn't my enemy,

It's my responsibility.

Demonic magic flared—not wild, not consuming—but perfectly aligned.

She didn't scream.

She didn't rage.

She commanded.

The Beast King staggered under the combined assault—steel, sun, and demon crashing into it from all sides.

"…Impossible," it snarled. "…A demon who does not fall—!"

Mirajane stepped forward, eyes blazing.

"…I choose who I am."

She struck.

The final blow shattered the Beast King's core, magic dispersing into harmless sparks that faded into the air like dying embers.

The clearing fell silent.

---

Aftermath

Ren exhaled slowly, Sun Breathing easing back into warmth rather than blaze.

Erza lowered her sword.

Mirajane turned back to Lisanna—

"…You're not a my lisanna," Mira said shakily.

Lisanna smiled weakly. "…I don't think so."

Ren approached carefully.

"…She's from Edolas," he said gently. "Pulled here through a dimensional tear."

Mira stiffened. "…So she'll disappear?"

Ren shook his head. "…Not immediately. And not without warning."

Mirajane pulled Lisanna closer. "…Then we'll find a way."

Erza nodded firmly. "…Fairy Tail always does."

Lisanna looked up at them, eyes wide. "…You're… really strong."

Ren smiled faintly. "…We try."

Mira laughed softly—tearful.

The forest breeze stirred, carrying away the last traces of the Beast King.

But Ren felt it.

This wasn't the end.

It was the beginning of something far bigger.
