Morning starts with the same old routine—wash up, get dressed, and head to the kitchen to make breakfast.
I'm pulling ingredients from Storage when I hear a knock at the door. Early for visitors.
I open it to find all five heroes standing there, looking bright-eyed and surprisingly awake for this hour.
[Wright] "You're up early."
[Takeshi] "We wanted to join you for breakfast!"
[Yuki] "If that's okay?"
[Wright] "Of course. Come in."
They file inside, filling the cabin with chatter and energy. Donny lifts his head from his spot by the fireplace, chirping a greeting before waddling over to investigate. Aiko immediately crouches down to pet him, and he churrs happily under her attention.
I take out more ingredients and get to work. The bacon sizzles in the pan while I crack eggs beside it. Fresh fruit gets sliced and arranged on plates.
The heroes help set the table. We sit down to eat, plates piled high. Takeshi practically inhales his food while Daichi takes his time, savoring each bite. Kenji eats methodically, and the girls chat between bites about something that happened yesterday with the high elf children.
[Wright] "So what's everyone's plan for today?"
[Takeshi] "We're going to help with the planting first."
[Yuki] "Then after that, Takeshi, Aiko, and I are going into the forest with Rhevan, Nym, and Donny."
Donny's head perks up at the mention of his name, his tail swishing slightly. He knows "forest" means adventure.
[Aiko] "We want to keep leveling up and get stronger. Since we're staying in this world, we need to be able to handle ourselves."
[Takeshi] "Can't rely on Wright to save us every time."
[Wright] "Smart thinking."
[Daichi] "Kenji and I are staying here. We met some high elf kids yesterday, and they invited us to hang out."
[Kenji] "They wanted to show us how to make something. A craft project, I think."
[Wright] "Sounds like everyone has a packed day."
The conversation continues over breakfast, easy and relaxed. It's nice, having people to share meals with like this. The cabin feels warmer somehow, more alive.
We're just finishing up when the wooden doll on the table begins to glow.
Everyone stops mid-conversation, turning to watch.
The wood flows like water, grain smoothing into pale, luminous skin. Long pale-blue hair cascades down in silken waves. The face sharpens into severe, elegant beauty. High cheekbones, straight nose, lips that hold natural authority.
The eyes open. Deep blue with a faint yellow glow at the center, like sunlight filtering through ocean water.
Jyne blinks, flexing her fingers. She tests the weight of the body, rolling her shoulders before her gaze sweeps across the room.
[Jyne] "Good morning, everyone."
The heroes chorus back their greetings, though Daichi looks a bit awestruck. He's still not entirely used to seeing the Goddess manifest in person.
[Jyne] "I've completed the preparations. I can send Daichi and Kenji home whenever they're ready."
The announcement catches everyone off guard.
Silence descends over the table. Takeshi's fork pauses halfway to his mouth. Yuki sets down her cup carefully. Aiko's expression shifts to something bittersweet.
Kenji and Daichi exchange glances, relief and something else—maybe reluctance?—crossing their faces.
[Jyne] "The spell is ready. I can perform it at any time."
[Daichi] "We... we appreciate it. We do want to go home, but..."
He looks around the table at his friends, then out the window toward the fields.
[Daichi] "Could we at least stay to help finish the planting? We already committed to helping today."
[Kenji] "It feels wrong to leave without finishing what we started."
Takeshi grins.
[Takeshi] "That's the spirit! Can't abandon the farm work."
[Wright] "Jyne, do you mind waiting until after we finish planting?"
Jyne's expression softens slightly.
[Jyne] "I don't mind. There's no rush on my end."
[Yuki] "Thank you, Goddess Jyne."
A knock sounds at the door, interrupting the moment.
I open it to find Eldrin standing there with a few other high elves behind him. He's dressed for travel.
[Eldrin] "Wright, I was coming to say goodbye before heading out to deliver the food, but then I sensed—"
He stops mid-sentence, eyes widening as he spots Jyne sitting at the table.
The divine presence must be unmistakable to him.
Behind Eldrin, the other high elves immediately drop to one knee, heads bowed in reverence.
[Eldrin] "Goddess. I didn't realize you would be manifesting today."
Beyond Eldrin, more movement catches my attention. Liora is sprinting toward the cabin, her usual composed demeanor abandoned in her haste. She skids to a stop beside Eldrin, breathing hard, and immediately drops into a bow.
[Liora] "Goddess."
They sure are keen on sensing divine presence.
[Wright] "Everyone, come in. No need to stand outside."
They file in hesitantly, clearly overwhelmed by Jyne's presence. The cabin is getting crowded now, but we make it work.
[Wright] "Daichi and Kenji will be leaving today, after we finish the planting."
The announcement shifts the mood. Eldrin's expression becomes solemn, and Liora's eyes widen slightly.
[Eldrin] "I see. Then I'm glad I came when I did."
[Liora] "We'll miss you both."
[Daichi] "We'll miss you too."
[Kenji] "Thank you for everything you've taught us."
A thought occurs to me.
[Wright] "Jyne, what about the new skills you promised us?"
Jyne's eye twitches. She turns to glare at me with an expression that clearly says I was hoping you'd forgotten about that.
[Jyne] "Yes. I can do that as well."
[Wright] "Perfect."
[Jyne] "However—"
She raises one elegant finger.
[Jyne] "There are ground rules. First: absolutely no skills that will allow you to directly use the world's energy. I will not permit anything that risks destabilizing the world."
[Wright] "Reasonable."
[Jyne] "Second: no mass destructive skills that could harm the world itself. I refuse to grant anything that could cause widespread devastation."
[Wright] "Also reasonable."
[Jyne] "And third: I reserve the right to deny any skill request if I deem it too troublesome, too dangerous, or simply too annoying to deal with."
She looks directly at me on that last part.
[Wright] "Fine. It's your world."
[Jyne] "Indeed it is."
Takeshi, Aiko, and Yuki look ecstatic. They're practically vibrating with excitement.
[Yuki] "We're really getting new skills?"
[Aiko] "This is amazing!"
[Takeshi] "I already have some ideas!"
Eldrin clears his throat.
[Eldrin] "If it's not too presumptuous... I would like to stay for another day. To witness the divine blessing, and to properly say goodbye to Daichi and Kenji."
Liora nods fervently.
[Liora] "This is a historic moment."
[Wright] "I don't mind. The more the merrier."
[Jyne] "Very well."
Everyone nods in agreement.
But first, we have work to do. We head outside, the group expanding as we make our way toward the fields. Jyne walks among us, her divine presence subtle but unmistakable. She doesn't float or glow or do anything dramatic. She simply walks, like anyone else.
But there's something about the way the morning light catches her hair, the way the grass seems just a bit greener where she steps, that marks her as something more.
---
The rest of the high elves are already gathered at the fields when we arrive, organized into work teams by whoever got there first. They're chatting among themselves, preparing tools and checking the seedling beds.
Then they notice Jyne. The effect is instantaneous.
Conversation dies. Tools clatter to the ground. Every single high elf drops to one knee, heads bowed low.
[High Elf 1] "Goddess!"
[High Elf 2] "The Goddess walks among us!"
[High Elf 3] "We are blessed! Truly blessed!"
Even Nym, usually so composed, has gone to one knee. Her eyes are wide with reverence. Kara is beside her, head bowed deeply. Rhevan, the stoic hunter, looks genuinely moved.
Jyne waves a hand, looking almost embarrassed by the attention.
[Jyne] "Please, rise. There's no need for such formality. We have work to do."
They rise slowly, still looking awestruck.
Then Sylphaeris materializes beside Jyne with a mischievous grin.
[Sylphaeris] "The Goddess herself will be overseeing the divine work of farming today. I expect everyone to perform at their absolute best."
A ripple of energy passes through the gathered high elves. Eyes light up with determination. Backs straighten. Even Liora, usually the picture of efficiency, looks fired up.
[Liora] "We won't disappoint you, Goddess!"
[High Elf 4] "We'll make this the best planting in history!"
[High Elf 5] "For the Goddess!"
[Wright] "Sylphaeris, don't egg them on."
[Sylphaeris] "What? I'm just being helpful."
She's absolutely doing it on purpose, and the grin on her face confirms it.
[Wright] "You're enjoying this too much."
[Sylphaeris] "Obviously."
Jyne shakes her head but doesn't comment. Instead, she walks toward the gaming table that's still set up from yesterday, settling into one of the chairs with practiced grace.
A few high elf children approach hesitantly, drawn by curiosity.
[Child 1] "Um... Goddess?"
[Jyne] "Yes?"
[Child 2] "Would you... would you like to play a game with us?"
Jyne's severe expression softens into something gentle.
[Jyne] "I would like that very much."
She gestures to the Othello board.
[Jyne] "Shall we start with this one?"
The children light up, scrambling to sit at the table with her. Within moments, they're engaged in a game, Jyne patiently explaining strategies while the children hang on her every word.
It's surreal—the Creator of the world, playing board games with children while farmers work the fields nearby.
But somehow, it feels right.
[Wright] "Alright everyone, let's get to work."
---
Liora takes charge, organizing everyone into efficient teams. Her voice carries across the field with crystal clarity, directing the workflow with the precision of a military commander.
[Liora] "Team one, start with the northern section! Team two, take the eastern beds! Team three, you're on the southern fields!"
The high elves move with purpose, energized by Jyne's presence. They work faster than I've ever seen them work, each movement deliberate and efficient.
The seedlings they cultivated earlier are ready. Small plants with healthy roots, carefully nurtured in preparation for transplanting. The high elves move down the rows with practiced ease, digging small holes in the enriched soil, placing each seedling with care, then gently packing the earth around the roots.
I join in alongside the heroes. Takeshi works beside Rhevan, matching the hunter's steady rhythm. Yuki pairs up with Nym, asking questions about optimal planting depth and spacing. Aiko helps with the more delicate seedlings, her careful nature perfect for the task.
Kenji and Daichi work together, quiet but efficient. There's a bittersweetness to watching them knowing this is their last day here, their last time working these fields.
Donny waddles along the rows, occasionally stopping to inspect the work. Sometimes he nudges a seedling that's been planted slightly crooked, and whoever planted it hurries to fix it. He's surprisingly particular about proper planting technique.
[Takeshi] "Even Donny's a perfectionist today."
[Yuki] "Can you blame him? The Goddess is watching."
Though when I glance over, Jyne isn't watching the fields at all. She's completely engrossed in her game with the children, studying the board with the same intense focus she probably used when designing the laws of physics for this world.
[Child 1] "Ha! I got the corner!"
[Jyne] "Well played. But observe. If I place here, I can flip this entire line."
[Child 2] "No fair! You're too good at this!"
[Jyne] "Strategy takes practice. Let me show you why corner positions are so valuable..."
The serene scene contrasts beautifully with the industrious energy in the fields.
Hours pass. The sun climbs higher, warming the earth. The high elves work with unwavering enthusiasm, that divine motivation Sylphaeris sparked burning strong. They don't stop for water breaks or to rest. They just keep working, driven by the desire to prove themselves worthy of the Goddess's presence.
I have to intervene eventually.
[Wright] "Everyone, take a break. Drink some water."
[Liora] "But we're making such good progress!"
[Wright] "You won't make any progress if you collapse from exhaustion."
Reluctantly, they pause. I pull water from Storage and pass it around. People drink gratefully, though they keep glancing toward Jyne as if afraid she'll disappear if they look away too long.
The work continues through the afternoon. Row by row, section by section, the vast fields fill with neat lines of planted seedlings. The heroes keep pace admirably, though I can see the exhaustion creeping into their movements. Their borrowed time in physical training shows. They're much stronger than when they first arrived, but this is still hard labor.
Vesper finally appears around midday, hair disheveled and eyes bleary.
[Vesper] "I'm here! I'm ready to—"
She stops, staring at Jyne sitting at the gaming table.
[Vesper] "The Goddess is here."
[Sylphaeris] "Yes. You slept through her arrival."
[Vesper] "That would explain all the noise."
Vesper, still half awake, walks toward the fields.
—
By late afternoon, we're done.
The last seedling goes into the ground. The last bit of soil is patted down. Liora surveys the fields with obvious pride.
[Liora] "That's everything. The fields are fully planted."
A cheer goes up from the workers. People stretch sore muscles, grinning despite their exhaustion.
I step forward, focusing my mana. The familiar sensation of growth acceleration magic flows through me, spreading out across the entire field. I can feel it taking hold. The seedlings' roots reaching deeper, their stems strengthening, their leaves unfurling just a bit faster than nature intended.
[Wright] "Done. Everything should be ready for harvest in three weeks."
[Eldrin] "Remarkable as always."
[Wright] "The acceleration magic helps, but it's everyone's hard work and Liora's leadership and expertise that makes all this possible."
Liora beams at the compliment.
Just as we're starting to relax, movement in the sky catches my attention. Figures descending from above. Silhouettes backlit by the afternoon sun.
Angels and vampires. Their wings casting shadows across the fields as they approach.
Seraphina lands first, touching down with ethereal grace. Her dark wings dissolve into shadow as she surveys the farmland with obvious appreciation.
Lucien lands beside her, his white wings folding neatly behind him as his feet touch the ground.
The rest of their groups follow. Angels in pristine white, vampires in a variety of attire.
[Seraphina] "Wright! We've completed our task and thought we'd visit before heading back."
[Lucien] "That King and nobles never stood a chance when we—"
He stops mid-sentence.
His eyes have found Jyne, still sitting at the gaming table with the children.
Seraphina follows his gaze and goes completely still. Every single angel and vampire freezes, staring at the scene before them.
There she is—the Goddess, the Creator of this world, the divine being responsible for everything that exists—sitting cross-legged on a chair, moving black and white pieces on a wooden board while high elf children giggle and strategize around her.
[Jyne] "If you place your piece here, you can create a strong defensive position."
[Child 3] "But then I can't attack!"
[Jyne] "Sometimes defense is the best offense. Watch what happens when your opponent overextends..."
Not a single angel or vampire can speak.
Seraphina's mouth opens, then closes. Opens again. No words come out.
Lucien looks like his entire worldview is being rewritten in real-time.
[Angel 1] "Is that—?"
[Vampire 1] "The Goddess?"
[Angel 2] "Playing..."
[Vampire 2] "With children?"
The high elf children, completely unbothered by the divine nature of their opponent, continue playing with cheerful determination.
[Child 1] "I'm going to beat the Goddess!"
[Jyne] "Ambitious. I like it. Show me what you've got."
I walk over to greet the newcomers.
[Wright] "Welcome. I take it everything went well?"
Seraphina tears her gaze away from Jyne with visible effort.
[Seraphina] "Yes. The capital's corruption has been... thoroughly addressed."
[Lucien] "The nobility involved in the hero summoning scheme won't be causing any more problems."
His tone suggests "won't be causing problems" is a polite way of saying "no longer exists."
[Wright] "Good. And perfect timing. Daichi and Kenji are heading home today. You can say goodbye."
That finally breaks through their shock. Seraphina's expression shifts to something bittersweet.
[Seraphina] "Already? I suppose we knew this was coming."
[Lucien] "It will be strange, having them leave."
The heroes have gathered nearby, drawn by the arrival of the angels and vampires. Daichi and Kenji step forward.
[Daichi] "Thank you both. For everything you did for us."
[Kenji] "You saved our lives. We won't forget that."
Seraphina smiles warmly.
[Seraphina] "You're brave young men. I'm glad we could help."
[Lucien] "Your world is fortunate to have you returning to it."
The angels and vampires mingle with the group, offering their own farewalls to the departing heroes. It's a strange gathering. Divine beings, angels, vampires, high elves, and humans from another world, all standing together in a farm field.
Jyne finishes her game with the children. She wins, but barely, and the kids are ecstatic about how close they came.
[Child 2] "We almost had you!"
[Jyne] "You played well. Keep practicing and you'll beat me next time."
She stands, and every angel and vampire immediately drops to one knee.
[Angels/Vampires] "Goddess."
Jyne sighs.
[Jyne] "Must everyone keep doing that?"
[Seraphina] "You are the Goddess. It would be disrespectful not to show proper reverence."
[Jyne] "I'd prefer you all just treated me normally, but I suppose that's asking too much."
She walks over to where I'm standing with the heroes.
[Jyne] "Well then. Shall we discuss these new skills?"
