Chapter 52 - : Across the Quiet Ruins

The edge of the Void of Fallen Universe did not welcome travelers.

It simply… endured them.

A suffocating stillness stretched endlessly before the group as Aerito's spatial corridor slowly stabilized into a narrow drifting pathway of fractured light. The moment they crossed the threshold boundary, the atmosphere changed so subtly that most would have missed it.

But not them.

The air — if it could even be called air — felt heavier.

Older.

As if every particle here had witnessed too many endings.

Kael was the first to shiver dramatically.

"…Okay," he muttered, rubbing his arms, "why does it feel like the universe itself is judging us right now?"

Luka didn't even look back.

"Because you talk too much."

"Wow," Kael deadpanned. "Supportive as always."

But despite the light banter, even Kael's eyes were more alert than usual.

Because the Void of Fallen was wrong.

Not violently hostile.

Not openly dangerous.

Just… wrong.

Vicky walked at the center of the group, his silver hair faintly stirring in the low-gravity drift. His crimson eyes scanned the distant broken starfields quietly, almost thoughtfully.

Aarna stayed close at his side — closer than before.

She wasn't scared.

But her instincts were awake.

Very awake.

After several minutes of silent travel, she finally whispered,

"Master… do you feel that?"

Vicky answered without looking at her.

"…Yes."

Aerito glanced back over his shoulder.

"So you noticed already, huh."

Eren frowned.

"Noticed what?"

Aerito's smile was faint this time — less playful, more knowing.

"This universe isn't dead."

That made everyone slow slightly.

Arelia's eyes sharpened.

"…Explain."

Aerito pointed forward.

"Dead universes collapse. Their laws dissolve. Their space decays."

A small pause.

"But this one…"

His voice lowered.

"…is being preserved."

• The Universe That Refused to Die

The pathway carried them forward through vast drifting ruins of cosmic debris.

Broken planetary rings.

Frozen fragments of cities that no longer had worlds.

Shattered space structures floating like abandoned monuments.

But the strangest part—

Nothing was decaying.

Everything was frozen in a strange, suspended state.

Luka's gaze narrowed dangerously.

"…Something is maintaining this."

Aerito snapped his fingers lightly.

"Exactly."

Kael scratched his head.

"Wait, hold on… so you're saying this place is like…"

He gestured vaguely.

"…on life support?"

Aerito grinned.

"Pretty good analogy."

But then his eyes shifted toward Vicky again.

"And the thing maintaining it…"

His voice softened.

"…might be connected to the fragment."

Silence followed that.

Because now—

The journey wasn't just travel.

It was a countdown.

An hour passed.

Then another.

The deeper they moved into the Void of Fallen, the stranger the environment became.

Time distortions flickered at the edges of their path.

Once, Kael swore he saw his own shadow move half a second late.

Another time, Aarna noticed distant stars briefly reverse their motion before correcting themselves.

Even Eren finally spoke quietly,

"…This place is unstable in a very controlled way."

Aerito gave him an approving look.

"Not bad, merchant boy."

Eren sighed.

"I told you not to call me that."

But despite the conversation, everyone had unconsciously tightened formation around Vicky.

Because whether they admitted it or not—

The closer they got…

The more the universe seemed to react to him.

Very subtly.

Very quietly.

But unmistakably.

At one point, while the others were focused ahead, Aarna tilted her head slightly and studied Vicky's face.

Her eyes softened.

"…Master."

He glanced down slightly.

"Yes?"

She hesitated for half a second.

Then asked softly,

"…Do you feel familiar here?"

For the first time since entering the Void—

Vicky didn't answer immediately.

His gaze drifted toward the distant broken horizon.

His voice, when it came, was quiet.

"…Not familiar."

A pause.

"…But not foreign either."

Aarna's grip on his sleeve tightened just a little.

Aerito, overhearing, smiled faintly to himself.

"…Yeah," he murmured under his breath. "…we're definitely getting closer."

Without warning—

The pathway ahead flickered violently.

CRACK.

Space folded inward for a split second like glass under pressure.

Everyone instantly tensed.

Luka's hand moved to his weapon.

Arelia's aura flared slightly.

Kael jumped back.

"HEY— what was that?!"

Aerito raised one hand calmly.

"Relax. Minor spatial hiccup."

But his eyes were sharper now.

More focused.

Because even he hadn't expected instability this early.

The path re-stabilized… but the mood had shifted.

Eren spoke quietly,

"…Something knows we're here."

This time—

No one disagreed.

The journey continued.

Slower now.

More cautious.

The Void of Fallen grew darker the deeper they traveled, the star density thinning until vast stretches of near-black space surrounded them.

Yet strangely—

The pathway remained perfectly intact.

Perfectly guided.

As if something ahead…

Was allowing them to approach.

After nearly two more hours of travel, Aerito finally slowed again.

His playful attitude had faded almost completely now.

"…We're entering the inner zone."

Kael immediately tensed.

"That sounds like boss-fight territory."

Aerito smirked slightly.

"…Not yet."

But then he added quietly,

"…Soon."

Aarna instinctively moved even closer to Vicky again, almost shoulder-to-shoulder now.

She tried to act normal.

But Luka noticed.

And silently looked away with the faintest knowing expression.

• The Silent Pull

As they moved deeper—

Vicky finally felt it clearly.

A pull.

Not physical.

Not gravitational.

Something deeper.

Calling.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

Aerito immediately noticed.

"…You feel it now, don't you, Master."

Vicky didn't deny it.

"…Yes."

The air around the group grew heavier.

The broken stars ahead began forming faint spiral patterns.

And somewhere in the far distance—

Something ancient stirred.

Very slowly.

Very patiently.

Waiting.
