Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Who’s on the Phone?

As the door clicked shut behind her, Eliana could still feel the storm brewing within the room. She stood in the middle of her bedroom for a moment, listening, but all she could hear was the muffled hum of the building's systems. Eliana then turned and walked towards her bed, a small smile playing on her lips. She was still in trouble, but at least she was out of that suffocating room. And now, with Sabrina occupied, she had some time to herself.

She lay down on her bed, her mind already racing. Mostly to due with the CEO of Silph Co., Mr. Show. Whatever Sabrina was doing was obviously important enough to get the man to show up in person despite his fear. It was all a puzzle, a tangled web of power and deceit. And she wanted to unravel it.

But for now, she had other things to worry about. Not her Pokémon, she knew they were completely fine and had only gotten stronger since the last time she saw them. Eliana was more worried about fact that she was still grounded. Sabrina had said that the intruder wouldn't chase her punishment to grow but with the older woman's soured mood, Eliana wasn't too sure about that now. She already had spent five days in that room and had two more, a whole week of just meditation. Eliana scowled at the ceiling, she wasn't looking forward to adding more to that so soon, maybe in the future once Sabrina's calmed down. But she would endure, because she knew that on the other side of this punishment, there was something more. Something that Sabrina didn't want her to teach her the doll trick at first but she would wear her teacher down with time. And that, more than anything, made Eliana determined to see this whole thing through.

Eliana was about to continue complementing what she would do since Sabrina hadn't said she had to meditate out here, and she would be exploiting that when her teacher came to collect her. But then her phone started ringing, Eliana jolted in surprise as she had almost forgotten about the thing. She hadn't been allowed to play games and basically all communication with others has been done telepathically. Besides there was only one creature who had her phone number…

"Finally you picked up!" Mew's voice rung out, full of impatience.

"Mew…?" Eliana hesitantly asked, confused at why the Pokémon was contacting her.

"I can't believe you managed to get yourself watched so closely!" Mew agitatedly huffed out, "It's been an annoyance waiting for a chance to contact you."

"What were you waiting for?" Eliana questioned it.

"I was waiting for Sabrina's attention to be captured elsewhere."

"Aren't you a legendary?" Eliana asked incredulously.

"I suppose since that is the word humans use you're technically correct." Mew sounded a bit annoyed for some reason.

"So why does it matter if she was watching?"

"Sabrina is very powerful, I can hide who I am from her but she'd still know you were talking to someone."

"Why does that matter…?" Eliana grumbled.

"Eliana you're not an idiot, why would I expose myself?" Mew scolded the teenager.

"Ok whatever, why are you calling?" Eliana rollled her eyes, although the Pokémon couldn't see her.

"You haven't taken a life in a while, I was concerned something had happened to your mind." Mew told the teenager point blank.

"You were worried about me?" Eliana didn't understand why Mew would care so much.

"Of course not, I was worried Sabrina would discover something she had no business if your mind had been broken." Mew waved her off.

"Well she hasn't," Eliana grumbled, "If you had actually taught me anything about these abilities, you wouldn't have to worry about it."

"You should be thankful I hid how you truly got here!" Mew pointed out.

"You did that to save yourself the trouble…" Eliana pouted.

"True, you still benefited from it." Mew snickered.

"Hmph," Eliana scowled but asked the question that had been on her mind since Mew had first called. "You're not going to say anything about me being around Sabrina?"

"Why would I?" Mew asked, "You're learning and, most importantly, not making my job harder because she's watching over you."

Eliana's nose scrunched up at that, but at least someone different was acknowledging her growth.

"Sabrina's attention on the man is waning, I'll have to go now." Mew informed the girl.

"Ah hold it," Mew stopped Eliana from ending the call, "Try not to turn people into dolls too often when you finally learn it. Sabrina is already pushing The One Above's overlooking with her frequency of using it."

Mew then hung up before Eliana could ask more about it. The teenager paused before looking up happily, If Mew said that then it means I will get to learn the trick!

She didn't even fight against Alakazam when he came to get her and bring her back to Sabrina's room. She was even perfectly still as she took her place back on the floor. Sabrina didn't pay her any mind as she sat down at her desk, her face a blank mask. Eliana wondered what could've been so important that Sabrina had actually let her student slip from her attention. It was a welcome break but now the girl's curiosity was bursting, not that she'd be able to do anything about right now. But there was always later, she had the time and not to mention her punishment was almost over. The CEO was gone, and the room was once again a sanctuary of stillness.

But the air was still charged, a lingering residue of Sabrina's anger. Eliana could feel it, a cold, prickling sensation against her skin. She wanted to ask what had happened, to know if the CEO had been punished for his insolence. Eliana was sure he was still alive, after all she didn't feel his life slipping away. And it would be idiotic of Sabrina to get rid of her mole. But she knew better than asking right now, so Eliana kept her mouth shut, her expression one of placid obedience. Maybe the man would come back or send someone else in his place. Or the more boring option, he'd be staying away for the foreseeable future which would be annoying since she probably wouldn't be allowed to leave the gym even after her punishment was over.

Eliana felt a small flick against her mind, Sabrina scolded the girl

Sabrina looked over at the girl and gave her some rare praise,

Eliana perked back up at that, she was getting through her teacher's walls after all.
