Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Caught in the Light

Hana's entire body went cold.

The sound of the camera shutter still rang in the air like a slap.

Min-jae stepped forward instantly.

"Who is that?" his voice was sharp, nothing like the gentle tone from seconds ago.

The figure behind the trees hesitated.

For half a second, Hana thought they might run.

But then—

They did.

The person turned and bolted down the path, footsteps pounding against the pavement.

"Wait!" Hana cried.

Min-jae didn't.

He took off after them without thinking.

"Min-jae—!" Hana ran too, her heart hammering painfully.

The campus was nearly empty now, the late afternoon sun stretching long shadows across the grounds.

The person was fast.

But Min-jae was faster.

He caught up near the storage building, grabbing the hood of their jacket.

"Stop!"

The figure stumbled, twisting violently.

"Let go!"

The hood fell back.

And Hana's breath stopped.

Yuri.

Her eyes were wide, cheeks flushed—not with embarrassment, but fury.

Min-jae's grip loosened slightly, shock flickering across his face.

"…You?"

Yuri yanked herself free, clutching her phone tightly.

"You shouldn't have been there," she snapped.

Min-jae stared at her like she was someone he didn't recognize.

"You followed us."

Yuri laughed bitterly.

"Followed? Please. You were the one sneaking around like you were doing something shameful."

Hana stepped forward, voice trembling.

"Why would you do this?"

Yuri's gaze cut to her instantly.

"Why?" she repeated. "Because you keep pretending you don't know what you're doing."

Hana flinched.

"I don't understand."

Yuri's eyes burned.

"You walked into his life and suddenly he looks at you like you're the only person in the world."

Min-jae's voice was low.

"Yuri… stop."

But she didn't.

"I've been beside him for years," she continued, voice cracking. "Years. And you—"

She pointed at Hana.

"You show up, and he chooses you in days."

Hana's throat tightened.

"I never asked him to—"

"But he did!" Yuri shouted.

Silence fell.

Even the wind seemed to pause.

Min-jae's face hardened.

"So you harassed her," he said quietly. "The messages. The notes. That was you."

Yuri's breathing shook.

"I didn't mean to hurt her," she whispered.

"But you did," Min-jae replied.

Hana's eyes stung.

Yuri's grip on her phone tightened.

"And now I have proof," she said suddenly, voice sharp again. "Proof that the perfect student council president isn't so perfect after all."

Min-jae's expression darkened dangerously.

"Delete it."

Yuri's smile was trembling.

"No."

Hana stepped forward, tears in her eyes.

"Yuri… please. This isn't love. This is cruelty."

For a moment, Yuri's face flickered with something—pain, doubt—

Then it vanished.

"You don't get to speak about love," she hissed.

And before either of them could stop her—

She turned and ran.

That night, Hana sat on her bed staring at her phone, fingers numb.

Min-jae had walked her home in silence.

He'd promised he would handle it.

But Hana knew—

Once something was recorded…

It didn't stay private.

Her phone buzzed.

A notification.

Then another.

Then ten more.

She opened one with shaking hands.

A new post.

A video.

The title:

Student Council President Caught Behind Auditorium With a Girl.

Hana's blood drained from her face.

The comments were already pouring in.

Her name wasn't mentioned yet.

But it would be.

Soon.

And the worst part—

The video ended just before the kiss.

Just enough to let the world imagine the rest.
