Chapter 3 - Hidden Tunnels

On an island faraway with a forest so vast and full of life lay in the center of it was a dragon, bigger than Balerion the Black Dread, jolted awake. Her chosen rider had finally arrived and she wouldn't have to hide anymore. Unlike her brothers and sisters she refused to be a slave and take commands.

She wanted something more and that opportunity had just arrived. Preparing for the long flight she shook the dust and sand off her majestic body before walking out of the forest. Footsteps rattled the ground and swayed her wings stretched. Shooting out in the air the she dragon let out a mighty roar.

The morning came with a quiet, gentle light that woke Adira from her sleep. She looked around the room in confusion at first until she remembered yesterday. Everything was still new to her and she could feel something trying to claw its way out before she pushed that feeling down. Adira made her way out of the room to the entrance of the stronghold.

She needed to name this place before she went crazy at the word stronghold. Before that Adira required food to think and food she shall get. Marching down to the beach she grabbed the makeshift spear she made out of plant fibers, wood, and rocks yesterday. It seems the lessons from that survival class are starting to pay off. Obviously she was sent here for another reason besides being collateral damage to a god.

Once Adira was at the beach she patiently waited for movement in the water. In the corner of her eye something moved under the water and she immediately threw her spear. This was done in a matter of seconds before Adira moved onto the next movement of water. She continued this until she had a pile of fish at her feet.

It was then that she encountered another problem until she remembered that there was an empty basket in the room she slept on. Running back to her room and back to the beach she started putting the fish in the basket. When the last fish landed in the basket Adira picked it up and made her way to the abandoned kitchen. Luckily there was some salt in a sealed jar.

The young dragon then began the long process of salt curing half the fishes. The long part wasn't rubbing the salt in between the meat of the fish; it was letting the salt take its process. Usually it would take two to three days for it to finish curing but the fish here was a bit more bigger than the ones in her world. Thus it might take a few more days for the process to finish.

Hence her curing half the fish and leaving the rest to be smoked so it could last longer while she waited. Smoking the fish didn't take long either, just a few hours which left her time to explore deeper in the stronghold. With this plan in her head she sought out the deepest corners first and found….nothing. Maybe there was a secret wall like the ones in the Red Keep.

After checking almost every wall in the stronghold Adira let out a scream of frustration which scared a bird in the window. Groaning, she plopped down onto the ground in defeat. She checked the walls in the room she was in, the keep, great hall, the stable, and even the kitchen. And yet there was nothing, not even a single clue.

No

NO

She refuses to give up so easily and so quickly, no that just wont do for her. There is one place she hasn't checked yet. It was the office of her ancestors. Once the thought crossed her mind she got up and basically sprinted her way there. It was located on the other half of the hold and was bigger than her room. After catching her breath Adira started to look for clues around the place.

However a book on the shelf across from her caught her eye. It looked odd like it wasn't supposed to be there but she didn't know how. Well, YOLO Adira thought. She pulled on the spine of the ancient volume, and the wall groaned, pivoting on a hidden hinge to unveil a forgotten, dusty room. This wasn't just a bookshelf in an office, it was a hidden entrance to a tunnel. Grabbing a torch she focused on it thinking of lighting it and flames sparked.

Once it was lit she walked down the steps of the hidden tunnel. As she traveled downward Adira set light to the others on each side. Finally the young dragon came across a door which had her house sigil on it but this time she already knew what to do. Adira brought her hand up to her mouth and bit it. Before she came down here she was able to find food by fishing with a homemade fishing rod. It was then that she noticed that her canines were longer than normal and more sharper like that of a dragon's. Another thing was that when she looked at the water her irises looked a bit thin while eyes were more of a purple with a hint of red in them.

It would seem that her family were closer to dragons than other houses of Valyria. Blood had once again dripped down her hand and she placed it onto the sigil then stepped back and watched the sigil glow. Pushing the fine crafted door she walked in and lit another torch. Gold shimmers filled the room as the light hit the metal. There was amour with a sword made up of valyrian steel but that was not what caught her. In the middle of the room there lay two big chests facing each other vertically.

Walking past the gold and the armour Adira stood in front of one the chest a knowing feeling in her chest but the need to confirm it arose. Guiding one of her shaking hands she opened the chest and then gasped. Inside laid a dozen dragon eggs all a myriad of different colors. What's even more strange was that she could still feel the warmth of them all. She hurriedly checked the other one and it had the same results. Feelings hit her one after another. Adira stood up straight and looked for a brazier she could place them in.

Spotting a big one near the mounds of gold she abruptly grabbed it without thought and took upstairs to her room with little problem. If she wasn't in such a hurry she would've noticed that she picked up something that two grown men would struggle to carry together. Rushing back she carried the chest back one by one with gentle care unlike that of the brazier.

Although she wanted to place almost all of them in the hot metal box they wouldn't fit as the eggs were larger than normal. Instead she placed three from each chest and placed them inside the brazier. Adria backed up and looked at her hard work. When the eggs hatched she would have to clean up the Dragon stables she found. The dragon stables were huge, larger than the mighty dragon Balerion the Black Dread size, maybe even bigger. Yes the hatchlings would grow up strong and fierce there instead of what that blasted Targaryen dragon pit.

A place where they would be chained down the moment they merge from hatchling to a young adult dragon. Just thinking of her dragons going through such treatment made her upset but she calmed down with the thought of her never chaining down her dragons no matter the situation.

These eggs were a part of her family's legacies and she would not let them go. Now all she had to do was patiently wait for them to hatch into beautiful hatchlings. However Adira had to be wary of the other dragon lord family that resided on the other side of the world.

If word got out that she had dragons then that would cause a whole nother headache for her. Shaking her head, Adira got ready for bed and dressed in a nightgown she found in an old wardrobe. I'll take care of you Aidra thought, feeling almost motherly to the eggs. A new dawn was rising on the horizon and the young dragon had to prepare for the near future however she couldn't help but wonder what era she was in before she let sleep take over her.

In the dark of night a sharp flap of wings carrying a dragon of immense size flew towards the lone castle. Luckily the castle was far from other islands or else some poor innocent civilian would've had a heart attack. The she-dragon flies around the structure for some time before landing on the beach with a heavy thud.

It would seem her little one was here waiting for her calling out for her and she would not deny her. The massive dragon let out a bellowing roar awaking the one inside. Adira jolted awake from her sleep hearing a dragon's roar. She prayed to the old and new gods that it wasn't a targaryen.

The least she needed was one attacking her in the middle of the night with nothing to protect herself. She hurriedly put on some clothes and shoes before running straight outside. Following the roars she rushed down to the beach where she saw a dragon of immense size. It had white scales littering its body with light silver gold layers on its wings.

Adira froze when the dragon made eye contact with her. The bellowing roars eventually came to a stop and they just stared at each other. A bond though fragile and still new was welcomed between the two. Suddenly the dragon lowered its body to the ground while still looking at her with those pale green eyes. Adira placed her hand onto the dragon's snout before caressing it. She knew what to do in order to make the bond official.
