Chapter 6 - Voltanis

Once that was done she made a bow and arrow set out of the nearby woods and weeds around the island. After that she packed some of the salted fish and a waterskin she found before putting it in one of the bags. By the time she was done, night had already rolled around and darkened the sky. Everything was ready and it was time to the road-well the sky to Volantis.

The trip to Voltanis was a long and gruesome one by the time Adira saw the shoreline from the sky. It was already night so she didn't have to worry about Vaelys being spotted so quickly. Luckily the she-dragon knew how to be silent when she wasn't sassy. Landing by the caves near the beach, Adira got down from Vaelys. While she waited for dawn to arrive she pulled out a book titled 'Tembyros se Dombo Valeris'. (History of House Valeris)

This book states that House Valeris goes back to the beginning of Valyria. House Valeris started with a young boy and his dragon. Instead of just focusing on trade and building an army they helped advance Valyria with their ideas of architecture. Of course they wouldn't do it for free and came up with a contract with the other dragonlords. The dragon lords knew that refusing this would be signing a death contract so they signed it with little hesitation. Others started to pick up on this business which made competition grow.

However the House Valeris had an advantage against their competitors. The discovery of dragonflame fused blackstone. This made the towers and buildings surrounding the volcanic peninsula more stable to the eruptions. With this House Valeris went into a period full of boons. Although this recipe later got leaked for unknown reasons.

Nevertheless it would be decades later before they got into a conflict with another house. The son of Lord Valeris in an act of folly by another lord's son, Lord Narnalys. Tensions had been brewing between these two houses for years and this was the flame that started it all. House Valeris had nine dragons while the opposing lord had twelve.

A war sparked between the two houses which was later dubbed "The Bloody Massacare". For it wasn't just a battle but a slaughter for all to witness. At first everyone thought that house Valeris would lose due to them having 12,000 soldiers while the house Narnalys had 14,000. However they forgot one thing: before being architects they were strategists. Before they switched to building stable buildings, House Valeris participated in the five Valyrian-Ghiscari wars in which they led three of them.

Instead of facing them head on they chose to use a tactic which Adira recognized as "Divide and Conquer". They knew exactly how to exploit a dragonlord's arrogance and ego. So they let spies take information back to the camps and when the opposing lord's general was confident enough to win the battle would only take 7,000 soldiers they ambushed them from behind.

But they didn't let any information get back to the other dragon lord so he would keep his confidence. In this battle the Valeris forces only lost 500 soldiers while the other house lost most of its soldiers and two dragons.

When enough time passed and the lord's soldiers didn't come back he tried to follow the track and scent with the remaining forces. However Valeris scouts faked tracks and the scents towards a narrow valley. With this Archers were able to pick off enough soldiers before being burned by the opposing lords dragons.

By the time they came out of the valley they only had 4,000 soldiers and nine dragons when they met House Valeris which later ended in victory and the extinction of House Narnalys. History would say it was a cunning and clever move.

Adira sighed and closed the book when she saw the sun coming up which signaled that dawn was beginning. It also meant she needed to hit the road before she fell back on her schedule. She turned to Vaelys before giving out the command "Sovegon, Vaelys". With that the she-dragon took flight in the skies until Adira couldn't see her.

"Well, let's get this over with," Adira stated before walking.

In Voltanis life was bustling and vendors were already starting shouting in the morning air. One could say the air smelled and felt cleaner than in Kingslanding. For a red priest named Kinvara it was just another regular day living in Voltanis. Everyday she would travel around the city and preach about her lord. Then she would heal some slaves to prove her abilities to the skeptical ones. Kinvara couldn't blame them after all going through the hardship that she once went through she too would be wary of hope.

However it was different within the red temple where all the priests come to pray to the red god R'hllor. There Kinvara rose to power fast and latched onto it with a cold stone vice grip. Some would think this act clever and cunning while others an act of desperation. Either way the nobles of Voltanis couldn't ignore another player on their game board, especially one so powerful. Currently she was standing in front of a fire and praying to her god as she did every day.

Although something felt different, Kinvara just couldn't put her finger on it. The fire near her burned a little brighter. This immediately caught her eye as most would just pass it off a gust of wind pushing against the fire. She would too if she didn't feel that familiar warm tingling sensation in her chest. It would seem like her god wanted to show her something and who was she to deny him. Kinvara glanced into the fire and was whisked away to a dream-like vision.

Looking around it looked like she was in Old Valyria but it looked different. There were flags of dragons going around in circles. At first she thought it was the Targaryens but their flag had a three headed dragon on it now that really caught her attention. For if there was another dragon lord family then it means the Targaryens weren't the only ones with dragons. Sure there were other valyrian house holds but to her they were all bark and no bite unless they were pushed into a corner. As Kinvara walked around she kept taking notice of things, especially ones as controversial as something called a 'school' or a 'jail'.

She finally got to the towering but elegant castle that was heavily decorated with gold, red, and purple designs. Then suddenly a shadow flew over her and Kinvara gazed in awe. She knew that they were majestic creatures and even saw one flying overhead, Vhagar or was it Balerion. Kinvara couldn't tell as it had been a century or two since she saw a dragon. Besides it was hard keeping time when you're practically immortal and you had free time on your hands.

Shaking those thoughts away she continued forward until she heard laughter ringing from one room. Following the laughter she came up across a glamorous room that hosted three noble ladies with valyrian distinct. It was impossible to hear what they were saying. The words sounded like it was going through water. However the eldest of the three wasn't looking at the rest. Instead the lady was looking straight at her like she could see her.

"Hello, Lady of Flame or would you like to be called Kinvara?" The mysterious lady said serenely. Chills ran through Kinvara.

In all of her time of looking through her visions of the past none had ever seen her or even taken notice of her. For this lady to even take notice of her and speak to Kinvara surprised her. Before she could even form words the woman interrupted her.

"Lady of flame I do not have enough time but the one you are looking for will need your guidance. You will know exactly who she is when you remember my words. Hair white as snow and eyes like that of pure amethyst with a tint of red. Her line will help bring forth Azor Ahai. Find her and you will fulfill your purpose in this life." The Mysterious Lady stated.

After that Kinvara was yanked back into reality. With a new found determination she got up and marched towards the room where the priests and priestesses had their daily meetings. Once there she let her magic do the work of summoning the others to the room. After they all were there she fully faced them.

"I have found our chosen one," Kinvara stated. " Our god R'llor has shown me who's line will bring Azor Ahai to life." With that she let the others see what she saw but left out the mysterious lady. She didn't need any more trouble than what she was bringing to the table.

Chaos immediately erupted in the council room before Kinvara raised her hand silencing the room. After all she could understand why they had their hackles up for this woman could potentially bring them to Azor Ahai. However she would not let her see the followers of R'llor like this. With a firm and stern tone she started to prepare for this woman's stay here in the temple, maybe even Voltanis.

With the sun finally rising to where she could see and not trip over every fucking thing Adira made her way towards the gates of Voltanis. After entering she immediately searched for an inn. She was in desperate need of a bath and clean clothes for she was a sweaty mess. Maybe tomorrow she would look for a stable to get a horse so she wouldn't walk everywhere.

Marching to an inn, Adira greeted the innkeeper before requesting a room and a bath together. Luckily there was one available and after checking it out was safe enough in case anybody tried to get in. However the only thing was that to take a bath she needed to go to the bathhouse. Thank the gods it was empty Adira thought before making her way to the warmest one. Stripping she slowly goes in the water and lets her body relax into the warm liquid before closing her eyes.
