Elena's POV
"Hey, hi," I said, forcing a smile across my face.
Janelle moved closer, her gaze cutting through me. "You still haven't changed," she said with contempt, scanning me from head to toe. "Still the same weird-looking woman. What loser are you here to see?"
The women clustered around Janelle burst into laughter, making my stomach clench.
I couldn't take another round of this torture, so I stepped toward the entrance. "Have a great night, Janelle."
Janelle planted herself in front of the hotel doors. "I'm not finished with you."
I pressed my lips together, wrapping my arms around myself, acutely conscious of my torn and gaping dress.
Janelle spun toward her friends. "You know Elena here stole Marcus from me? And now she's blackmailing him?"
"What?" they gasped in unison, exchanging shocked glances.
"You just won't let him go," Janelle pressed on ruthlessly. "Now you're broke, and you think blackmail will work? Shame on you, Elena!"
