Mino stole a glance at Nina, his eyes darkening slightly. "I ran here to escape an arranged marriage."
"Escape marriage?" Yanai was stunned. "Why didn't you just break off the engagement like I did?"
He hadn't expected that Mino had actually fled for that reason.
"My old man refused to let me cancel it," Mino said irritably. "He kept saying that our Spirit Cat clan must never break a promise."
"Who would want to marry that ugly, vicious female anyway?" Yanai scoffed. "Even if every female in the beast world died, no male would willingly marry her. Your old man was basically pushing you into a pit of fire."
Nina took a bite of shredded pork—and suddenly it didn't taste good anymore.
This dog of a male really has a poisonous tongue.
"How would I know what he was thinking? That old fossil only knows how to bury his own cub," Mino grumbled.
Then he immediately turned to Nina, eager to declare his loyalty. "Nina, I would rather die than marry that female. You have to believe me."
