Chapter 4 - Resolve

"Gojo-sama, it's an honour to meet you."

Walking out of Sugisawa Hospital, a man dressed in a formal office suit suddenly appeared, bowing respectfully toward the strongest sorcerer of this era.

"Here is the file you ordered."

He presented a thin folder, which Gojo accepted without stopping, continuing forward with casual steps.

"Thanks for your hard work."

Gojo waved the file lazily—uncharacteristic for someone handling confidential material—before slipping into a luxurious black car.

The door shut softly.

The moment he took his seat, Gojo opened the file, his blindfold still firmly in place.

"Amakawa Haruto."

The title was followed by standard personal details, but those were never what Gojo Satoru cared about.

His attention went straight to the bold letters beneath.

Grade: Special Grade

A smirk tugged at his lips.

"So they moved fast this time," Gojo muttered, amused by how quickly the higher-ups reacted when an unexpected variable appeared.

"Hah… that amount of cursed energy. It's almost on the same level as Yuuta's."

Click.

A pen appeared in his hand as he casually added notes to the file himself.

'How did we not notice his existence before?'

His eyes—hidden yet all-seeing—shifted further down to the thing he just added.

Cursed Technique: Great Sage

"A technique that boosts and enhances thought processes and learning to extreme limits…"

Gojo's grin widened.

"Hah. What an interesting kid."

A Special Grade cursed energy reserve paired with a technique not focused on direct combat. To the conservative old men, this would sound harmless—something to be dismissed, even celebrated.

"Hehehe."

Gojo laughed softly, already imagining their reactions.

They would underestimate him.

Unlike Gojo.

'This kid has monstrous potential,' he thought. 'Possibly even more than Yuuta.'

He closed the file and leaned back, stretching his arms.

Crack. Crack.

"Ten Shadows user, Sukuna's vessel… and now this wildcard."

Looking out at the moving cityscape, Gojo's grin turned sharp.

"It's going to be a fun year."

***

Haruto lay flat on the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling, his body completely drained.

'Huff… that was intense.'

He let out a weak laugh.

'I can't believe it… I met Gojo. The Gojo.'

Seeing one of his favourite anime characters in the flesh still felt unreal.

According to Gojo's explanation, during the battle between the curses and Fushiguro Megumi, the floor had collapsed. Haruto—who had been downstairs at the time doing who-knows-what—was caught directly beneath it.

Injured and unconscious, he had been discovered by Itadori Yuji, who carried him to the hospital. While Yuji saved his life, Gojo discovered something else entirely.

Cursed energy.

No—too much cursed energy.

Haruto's body possessed reserves so vast that even Gojo admitted it surpassed his own.

With that confirmation, Gojo Satoru took him under his protection, adopting him in the same manner as Fushiguro Megumi and serving as his legal guardian until he turned eighteen.

Many would ask why Gojo would adopt him just out of nowhere.

There had been Yuuta before, and Itadori Yuji too—the main character of the era himself.

Why did Gojo never adopt either of them outright, yet chose to do so for Haruto?

The answer was simple.

Because Haruto was never put on an execution trial.

For Yuuta, his relationship with the Queen of Curses, Rika, immediately made him a target for execution by the higher-ups. From the very beginning, his existence was treated as a threat that needed to be erased.

For Itadori Yuji, the situation was similar—if not worse. By eating Sukuna's finger, Yuji became the vessel of the King of Curses himself. His execution was decided the moment that happened.

Only under the proposal of Gojo Satoru was Yuji's execution delayed. Gojo wanted Yuji to consume all twenty fingers of the four-armed Sukuna, becoming a complete vessel before dying and taking Sukuna down with him once and for all.

Unlike the two of them, Amakawa Haruto's situation was different.

Haruto was simply a boy who had been detected one day possessing abnormally high cursed energy reserves.

His existence raised doubts, but unlike Yuuta and Yuji, he had no ties to ancient curses or forbidden taboos like Sukuna or Rika. Because of that, no execution order was issued against him.

And to protect the boy from any future complications, Gojo took him under his wings early—before the higher-ups could turn suspicion into hostility.

On top of that, Gojo arranged Haruto's transfer to Jujutsu High as a first-year student. All the paperwork had already been handled.

Before leaving, Gojo had asked about Haruto's cursed technique

Haruto gave only a vague description of Great Sage.

He didn't reveal its full capabilities—not because he wanted to deceive Gojo, but because he knew hiding it entirely would be foolish. Even so, there was no reason to expose everything.

'How am I even keeping up with all of this?' Haruto wondered. 'Is it you, Great Sage?'

[Positive.]

"…You're doing a great job," Haruto whispered, taking a deep breath.

'For now, worrying about how this is possible won't help. I should be thinking about what comes next.'

His gaze sharpened as he stared at the ceiling.

'Do I interfere with the plot… or leave it alone?'

Every reincarnator, every protagonist in fanfics, eventually faced this question.

'Should I just run away?'

Haruto shook his head.

'No. That won't work.'

His very presence had already altered reality.

In the original story, no one outside the Occult Research Club was injured during Sukuna's reawakening.

[Affirmative. Discovery of a third injured individual in the first episode. Timeline stability: 87%.]

'That's high.'

But then—

[Detection by Gojo Satoru. Emergence of a Special Grade variable. Offer to enroll in Jujutsu High. Absolute canon overlap probability: approximately 14%.]

'…That low, huh.'

Haruto sighed.

'Just my existence is enough to derail everything.'

He understood this better than anyone.

Recalling future battles—victories achieved by razor-thin margins—his thoughts grew heavy.

'I don't want to see a bad ending.'

Haruto closed his eyes, then opened them again, resolve burning within.

'Screw the plot.'

He pushed himself upright, fists resting on his knees.

'Screw Gege.'

Looking out the hospital window at the peaceful world below—the garden, the children playing—he felt something settle inside him.

'This is my world too.'

'I won't let it be destroyed.'

The curses, Kenjaku, Sukuna—none of it mattered more than reality itself.

He didn't trust anyone with that responsibility.

Not Gojo Satoru.

Not Itadori Yuji.

When the stakes were the entire world and millions of lives—including his own—he would not leave his fate in someone else's hands.

Would he let strangers decide whether he lived or died?

The answer was simple.

No.

'I'll get stronger than anyone.'

His fist clenched.

'Stronger than Gojo. Stronger than Sukuna.'

His eyes hardened.

I will become the strongest.

'By the way.. Is it legal for anyone to adopt a kid without his affirmation?'
