Chapter 83 - Chapter 83 The Tide of Zombies Blocking the Passage

"Of course, that's under normal circumstances."

"But I'm not bound by normal circumstances, so don't you kids try to learn from me."

Shawn grinned, then slowly reined in his smile.

"Get down!"

A sharp cry!

As he spoke, Shawn threw Thomas up with one hand, while simultaneously swinging his Stone Hammer with his right hand, smashing it into Thomas's head, sending him flying!

Oscar looked up, only to hear the sound of a heavy object falling to the ground.

He turned around, and Thomas, now a Walker, was motionless, his head smashed.

And pressed beneath Thomas's body were two or three Walkers whose bodies were already rotten; they had just come around the corner at the end of the passage.

"A Walker's weakness is its head; as long as you penetrate the brain, any method can stop them from moving further, turning them completely into dead bodies."

Shawn then explained.

Only then did he look at the horde of Walkers still pouring in from behind.

'Attracted by the gunshots?'

Shawn and Shane exchanged glances, but Shawn saw no trace of fear or cowardice in his eyes.

Immediately, Shawn told Oscar and the Big guy to enter the guardroom.

"We haven't finished our business yet; we'll come back for you later."

"Before that, you just need to hide here; as long as you don't open this door, you'll be safe."

With that said, Shawn closed the guardroom door, not allowing them to refuse.

The number of Walkers pouring out from deep within the Prison was not small, approximately 20, filling the entire passage.

Just one glance was enough to make one feel helpless.

But for Shawn and Shane, this was just a small interlude.

The moment the Walkers appeared, the Shotgun in Shane's hand began to roar.

The powerful firepower of the 12-gauge buckshot even caused the body of the foremost Walker to be propelled backward and fall.

Although it wasn't as visually impactful as Shawn directly grabbing and throwing them into the air.

The rhythm of one or two falling with each shot was still enough to make one gasp.

"Alright, Shane, if you smash them all up, it'll be hard to clean later."

Shawn put a hand on Shane's arm, stopping him from continuing to shoot.

But then, Shane watched as Shawn smashed a Walker's head with one hammer blow, brain matter splattering onto the surrounding walls like it was free.

His mouth moved, but he ultimately said nothing.

Not until the last Walker was dealt with, a golden light immediately appeared in Shawn's vision.

"Level Up, Lv23 → Lv24 (17%)"

"Skill Points Gained: 1"

"You can add points now"

Experience points were settled at the last moment, and Shawn immediately reached Lv24 (17%).

"If I clear out this entire Prison, can I directly reach Level 40?"

Shawn roughly calculated in his mind.

"According to the map, the Power Generation Room is in Sector B, which means it's past the cafeteria."

"If we can't withstand the subsequent Walker horde, we can temporarily retreat to the cafeteria to rest for a while."

"I just saw that there was a good amount of edible food stored in the kitchen of the prisoner's cafeteria; otherwise, these prisoners wouldn't have lasted until we arrived."

"Once we get the generator running, this food can sustain us for another half a year."

Shane's eyes gleamed with excitement.

At least there was enough food prepared for Lori's entire delivery period.

As long as she didn't leave the Prison and run out to court death, Lori could basically go through the entire pregnancy process in the Administrative Building.

"Let's go."

Shawn swung his Stone Hammer and walked ahead of Shane.

Without the noisy growls of the Walker horde, the entire passage seemed somewhat quiet.

At this moment, Shane had also calmed down again, no longer continuously agitated.

He was silent, then suddenly asked.

"Why do living people become Walkers after they die?"

"That Thomas just now, he clearly wasn't bitten by a Walker..."

After calming down, Shane suddenly thought of this.

"If Walkers are caused by some kind of virus, then why do living people become Walkers after they die?"

Shawn directly retorted without looking back.

He had never intended to hide it from the team, but Rick hadn't said anything, naturally having his own concerns, so Shawn also remained silent.

"Unless... unless living people were already infected..."

Shane didn't finish his sentence; he lowered his head, but he had clearly guessed the truth about 'infection'.

"That's right, no matter how they die, as long as their brains aren't directly destroyed, they will turn into Walkers and get back up."

"Any way..."

"Thinking of Lori again?"

"To be precise... the child..."

"If the child dies inside Lori's womb, will it also turn into a Walker?"

"Lori is already a virus carrier."

Shawn shrugged, not stating it directly, but answering evasively.

But soon, before Shane could think too much, Shawn continued.

"Childbirth is a big event for the team, there's no doubt about that."

"So don't worry, I will do my best to ensure the child is born healthy."

"Especially once we have electricity, the space we can operate in will gradually increase."

"Lori and the child will be fine."

Shawn comforted him.

In fact, he had long thought about building a Hospital in the Prison.

Complete medical equipment, clean and sterile operating rooms, professional doctors...

The Prison needed such a place; the existence of medical care could always resolve future worries.

However, all of this was predicated on the Prison being completely safe.

If possible, Shawn also wanted to first build the Prison into an impenetrable fortress.

'There's still so much to do,'

Shawn murmured to himself.

The two continued to chat softly like this.

After passing the cafeteria, the two walked along the deep side passage.

This was the direction of Sector B.

Before they even stepped onto the ground of Sector B, they had already heard a series of low growls from Walkers.

The two immediately stopped their casual chat, trying to keep their voices down, and even their footsteps became much lighter.

Shane took out the map again, and along the approximate location of Sector B, a winding passage went directly upwards, all the way to the passage between Sector B and Sector A.

He tapped on this section of the passage; if nothing unexpected happened, the Power Generation Room should be here.

Right next to the next guardroom and the recreation area.

This basically meant they had already passed through half of the entire Prison, with only the largest Sector A remaining, located behind the lawn.

If it was confirmed that the Prison guards were infected during the process of transferring prisoners.

Then, judging by the scale of Sector B, it was likely that the main force of the Prison's Walkers was still further back.

Shane poked his head out to look, but found that all the Walkers were currently blocking the passage, motionless.

They were just squinting their eyes, as if they were sleeping.

Shane cautiously retracted his head and looked at Shawn.

"What should we do?"

"They're here; we can't get past them at all, let alone enter the Power Generation Room."

Shawn thought for a moment.

"See if we can lure them all into their respective recreation areas, just like the one next to the Administrative Building, and lock them all in from the outside."

"Then we'll go around to the Prison entrance and re-enter from Sector C."

"But I'm not sure about the location of the recreation areas." Shane held up the map in his hand; it didn't mark those.

"No need for a map, I know the exact location."

Shawn shook his head, then silently opened the 'map'.

At this point, half of the Prison's area had already automatically unlocked on it.

Shawn had a rough idea of which direction each passage led and what location it ultimately connected to.

The recreation areas were built on the edge of the Prison, adjacent to the grass, not inside the Prison itself.

So Shawn only needed to pay attention to those passages that led all the way to the outside.

"I'll follow your lead." Shane approved of the plan.
