Grey stood up from the chair without answering Marsel's last question. The silence between them stretched, thick and heavy, but he refused to fill it.
He had already made up his mind. He was not going to ask whether Marsel knew Jethro. He was not going to ask whether his real name had once been Masha.
Some doors, once opened, could never be closed again, and Grey was not ready for whatever explosion might follow that confirmation.
Even if Marsel had been the man from Jethro's past, it didn't matter. That was history.
He needed to tell Marsel clearly that he could not accept his feelings-if they were genuine at all-and that they would not see each other again.
He and Jethro would deal with their own problems. They would figure out how to take care of the pregnancy. They would decide how to protect themselves.
And if strong protection was truly necessary as Marsel mentioned, Jethro was powerful enough to provide it.
"I'm sorry," Grey murmured.
