Chapter 17 - chapter 17

Having a crush can make your emotions swing wildly.

One moment you can't sleep, the next you can't eat.

Sometimes you laugh like a lunatic, and sometimes you just... want to cry.

"Su Zai Zai the Little Fairy's Diary"

Zhang Lu Rang also turned to head back. Hearing her words, he raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why should I add you?"

Su Zai Zai didn't know how to respond for a moment. After thinking it over, she shamelessly replied, "Because I want you to."

Su Zai Zai was genuinely frustrated. "What are you afraid of?"

Just adding a WeChat contact, and yet he was acting as if it was the end of the world.

"Look, so many people want to add me on WeChat, but I don't give it to them. You get to add me-aren't you happy, excited, thrilled? Don't you feel honored? Like you've won the lottery?"

Seeing his reaction, Su Zai Zai decided to apply some pressure.

"I'll give you three seconds. If you don't refuse, you have to accept my friend request tonight."

"Su Zai Zai." He looked at her without any emotion.

"Three."

"Two."

"One."

Her overbearing attitude left Zhang Lu Rang somewhat helpless.

After thinking it over for a moment, he finally uttered a word:

"Fine."

Fireworks went off in her mind, crackling and popping.

Before Su Zai Zai could even start celebrating, she heard him speak again.

"If you pass both physics and chemistry in the midterms."

In an instant, Su Zai Zai felt like she'd gone from heaven to hell.

"Rang Rang, isn't that a bit too much?"

"Zhang Lu Rang!"

"Then forget it."

Su Zai Zai instantly backed down. "That's not what I meant..."

Hearing this, Zhang Lu Rang lowered his head, a small smile flickering in his eyes.

Su Zai Zai licked her lips and pitifully asked, "Can the two scores add up to 100?"

This time, he was surprisingly agreeable.

Without hesitation, he replied, "Okay."

A patrolling teacher walked by from the other direction.

Even though she had gotten his agreement, Su Zai Zai didn't feel particularly happy.

After a few steps, she suddenly turned back and, with a heavy heart, said to him, "I'm going back now."

With that, she continued walking upstairs, her mood heavy.

Zhang Lu Rang stood there for a moment longer.

It wasn't until the teacher reminded him that he finally snapped out of it.

As he walked into the classroom, he thought about Su Zai Zai's expression just now.

He lost his focus.

Suddenly, he felt a pang of regret.

It seemed like he'd made things too difficult for her.

...Maybe the score he set was too high.

Even though the exams were only two days away, Su Zai Zai decided to give it her best shot. Because of that, she didn't spend much time trying to get Zhang Lu Rang's attention that week.

During breaks, she buried herself in her physics or chemistry books.

In class, she uncharacteristically paid full attention to the lessons.

Jiang Jia, lying on her desk, watched her work on problems.

After a few minutes.

Seeing how badly Su Zai Zai was struggling, Jiang Jia couldn't bear it anymore. "Stop it. Even if you don't score 100, he'll still add you on WeChat. Want to bet?"

Su Zai Zai put down her pen.

Her eyes were still fixed on the problem in front of her, her delicate eyelashes trembling slightly.

"He won't." She said quietly.

Zhang Lu Rang knew she couldn't score that high.

That's why he set that condition.

He always found her annoying, so he wouldn't give her any more chances to bother him.

Su Zai Zai understood this very well.

But even if she couldn't reach the goal, she still wanted to try.

She could only hold on to the tiny hope that he would keep his promise, just to get a little closer to him.

"Jia Jia, why am I so stubborn?" Su Zai Zai propped her chin up, feeling down. "Even if he adds me, he probably won't respond when I message him."

He'd just be like a decoration.

But the thought of even a small chance.

Somehow became an irresistible temptation.

The Saturday after the midterm exams.

Su Zai Zai was sleeping soundly in bed when she was suddenly yanked awake by her mother.

She let out a groan, resisting with all her might, struggling to bury herself back into the blanket.

The room quieted down.

But Su Zai Zai could still clearly sense her mother's presence.

She held back for a moment.

Then she pulled the blanket off her face.

With a look of grievance, she said, "I get up at six every day at school, can't you let me sleep a bit longer!"

Her mother sat by her bed, righteously replying, "I did let you sleep longer, it's already seven now."

Su Zai Zai: ""

"Get up, I want to eat Xu Ji's Tingzai Congee today, go buy it for me."

Su Zai Zai was full of morning grumpiness but didn't want to lose her temper with her mother.

Still groggy from just waking up, it took her a while to react, and she mumbled, "Why don't you go buy it yourself, or let Dad go, I'm too lazy to move."

"Your dad is too lazy to move, and so am I."

"... She just admitted she's too lazy to move..."

"Two bowls of Tingzai Congee, make sure to come back quickly, your dad and I have to work at nine."

... Her dear parents.

But Su Zai Zai did kind of want to eat Xu Ji's fresh shrimp rice rolls too.

She hesitated for a while in bed, but in the end, she got up and obediently went to wash up.

After changing her clothes, she walked out of her room.

Her father was sitting on the living room sofa reading a newspaper.

Su Zai Zai walked over.

She picked up a cup from the coffee table, filled it with some water, and took a sip.

Then, she grumbled, pretending to be casual, "I don't know how other dads do it, sending their precious daughters out to buy breakfast early in the morning."

"Other people's treasures are cherished and pampered."

"Our family is a bit special." Her father turned a page in the newspaper and finally spoke.

"Huh?"

"Our family treasures are stepped on underfoot."

Su Zai Zai: "..."

Angrily, she grabbed the bike keys and walked out the door.

The morning air was especially fresh.

A moist breeze brushed against her face, carrying the scent of grass.

Golden sunlight poured down but wasn't blinding.

Su Zai Zai pushed her bike out of the shed.

Once on it, she headed towards the entrance of the community.

Probably because it wasn't work time yet, there were very few pedestrians along the way.

When she reached an intersection within the community.

Su Zai Zai suddenly noticed a young man standing on the lawn on one side.

He was wearing a black T-shirt and dark knee-length denim shorts.

His black hair was fluffy and a bit messy.

He was holding a black leash in his hand.

Su Zai Zai was so absorbed in watching him that she didn't notice a white shadow flashing by her side.

When she snapped out of it, she realized a large white dog wasrunning towards her.

It nearly ran into her.

Su Zai Zai quickly turned her bike.

Unable to control it properly, she fell over with the bike, hitting the ground hard.

Bang-

A loud noise.

Hearing the commotion, the young man looked over.

His eyes tightened, as if he couldn't believe what was happening.

He quickly reacted and ran over.

Su Zai Zai's tears instantly flooded out.

Wearing short sleeves and shorts in the summer, her exposed skin was scraped by the cement, leaving streaks of blood.

Su Zai Zai regretted only wearing slippers to go buy breakfast.

She now regretted it because she saw that her big toe nail on her right foot was slightly lifted.

And blood was slowly oozing out.

The sight of it made Su Zai Zai cry even louder.

Although Su Zai Zai was afraid of many things, the thing she feared most was pain.

As Jiang Jia once said:

If you pull out one of her hairs, she could cry for an hour.

Zhang Lu Rang quickly reached her side.

Seeing her like this, he seemed a bit at a loss.

He reached out, trying to help her up.

Su Zai Zai, in pain and already in a bad mood, choked out, "Don't touch me! Boohoo, it's bad enough that you hate me, but even your dog hates me... We just met and it's already trying to harm me."

The Samoyed dog wagged its tail beside them, tilted its head, and stuck out its tongue.

Zhang Lu Rang squatted down, his expression not looking too good: "Let's go to the hospital."

Su Zai Zai suddenly remembered something Jiang Jia had said.

That girl had cried all afternoon in the classroom, and Zhang Lu Rang hadn't reacted at all.

Su Zai Zai could almost imagine what was going to happen next.

Zhang Lu Rang would throw a large sum of money at her and tell herThe pain made it impossible for her to think clearly about what to do. Like a clingy child.

She grabbed the hem of Zhang Lu Rang's shirt and made a fierce threat.

But her voice was soft and sweet, completely lacking any intimidation. Between sobs, she said:

"Zhang Lu Rang, if you dare to leave me, I'll kill you."
