She was right there, just a couple of hundred feet away across the main road. Even in the dense darkness, Elara could clearly see the outline of the car parked at the far corner of the intersection.
And yet, she couldn't take her eyes off that direction.
Looking at her sister's rigid profile, Melina dropped her shoulders down in complete defeat. This was truly as much as she could do. No, in reality, it was actually far more than she should have been able to manage. She had brought Elara all the way here, hadn't she? What more could she possibly expect from herself—dragging Elara to the car by force?
Melina shook her head, turning her attention back to the port official who was currently explaining the widespread power shortage caused by the approaching storm. At this rate, it was completely impossible to tell whether the vessel would safely sail through the open ocean or remain stranded.
"Why don't you head back to the campus and leave tomorrow?" the official suggested.
