Chapter 12 - The Final Deadline

I watched the car disappear, and the exhaustion in my heart gradually softened.

But the numbness in my lower region was still painfully present. I thought, never offend a woman, their revenge is too brutal. I almost lost my future descendants.

"Ruan Qi, what were you yelling about just now? Hurry up and help!" Feng Feng's mind was completely focused on the profits the exhibition could bring. Besides, he and I had been classmates for so many years, so he knew what I was like. He wasn't surprised.

"Got it, don't rush."

Feng Feng, I, and the other colleagues were busy all morning, but the results were minimal. Three or four middle-aged, around forty-year-old, ladies came, but they just glanced around and left. I didn't even have a chance to speak.

Only a noon and an afternoon were left before the exhibition ended. Feng Feng seemed increasingly uneasy, pacing back and forth in front of me, even sighing constantly.

I leisurely opened Old Zhao's office drawer, took out his favorite Da Hong Pao, lifted the lid of his expensive Zisha Teapot, and poured a generous amount of tea leaves into it, then filled it with hot water.

Then, I sat on the leather sofa that belonged to Old Zhao, calmly crossed my legs, and took the Jade Cigarette Holder and his precious Dupont from the desk, which Old Zhao didn't usually smoke.

I played with the Dupont in my hand, flicked open the lid, and immediately a crisp and pleasant "peng" sound rang out. Then, I held the Jade Cigarette Holder in my mouth and let the cigarette burn in the flame.

The reason I dared to be so arrogant was because I knew that, based on Old Zhao's personality, he never participated in the final events. He didn't like the feeling of the ending, which was quite strange when you thought about it.

My unhurried demeanor further agitated Feng Feng, who was already at a loss.

"Ruan Qi, I beg you, can you be a little more serious about work? Everyone is extremely busy right now."

"Feng Feng, I'm not saying this to put you down, but you're all wasting your effort. It's not our fault that others aren't buying our paintings."

"The question isn't whose fault it is, but how to solve the problem and complete the remaining turnover in the remaining half-day."

"You're better at this than I am. Tell me what to do, and I'll do it."

Feng Feng's face immediately fell when he heard what I said. He quickly walked in front of me, firmly grasped my hands, and said, "Ruan Qi, please help your brother out. I know you're smart; you must have a way."

Seeing his reaction, I didn't know what to say. But then, a sudden thought struck me: Yang Fei, who was already driving a top-of-the-line BMW 740 at such a young age. I considered her a friend, so asking her for a favor shouldn't be too much. Besides, this amount of money wouldn't be anything to her. At worst, I'd work my tail off for her.

"I have someone in mind, but..."

Feng Feng acted as if he had grasped a life-saving straw, excitedly patting my shoulder and immediately responding, "Hey, no buts! After it's done, I'll definitely treat you to a good meal, and then take you for a foot massage. I'll let you see what real life is like."

"Cough cough, hold on. I have one requirement: you have to apologize to the person." I looked at Feng Feng with a determined gaze, as if saying, "You must agree, or there's no discussion."

Feng Feng hadn't expected me to ask him to apologize, so he wore a blank expression. But he quickly reacted, hurriedly saying, "Apologize? Fine, no problem. Which boss should I apologize to? Let's go now." As he spoke, Feng Feng reached for the car keys in his pocket, as if telling me that we could leave at any moment.

"Not so fast, I don't have her contact information yet."

"Ruan Qi! So, you were just messing with me? After all the nice things I said to you."

"Do you trust me, just one word."

"Yes, yes, I trust you, alright?" Feng Feng said with a particularly cheeky expression.

I turned and walked out of the art exhibition's door, looking in the direction Yang Fei had already driven off in. I couldn't help but feel lost, because I really didn't know how to contact her.

Maybe I could wait for her at the entrance of "Zhongying Black Forest," I thought to myself.

Right, since she's been there once, she'll definitely go again.

"Give me the car keys, I'll be right back." Before Feng Feng could respond, I immediately snatched the keys from his hand and ran towards the Haval H5.

I started the car, turned it around, and drove into this upscale residential area. Just as I was about to pass the gate check, the security guard at the entrance stopped me. This security guard was about the same height as Feng Feng, but even more muscular, with a determined look between his eyebrows, like a soldier. He must be a skilled martial artist.

"Hello sir, our leader has regulations that do not allow outside vehicles to enter unless an owner comes down to pick you up," the security guard said in a loud voice.

"I'm the owner!"

I initially wanted to brush him off, but the security guard in front of me gave me a meaningful look and then smiled faintly without saying anything further.

Damn, does he really look down on me that much? I cursed inwardly.

But there was nothing I could do, so I backed the car out. If it were other security guards, I would definitely have slipped them a pack of good cigarettes as a gesture, but he made me feel disgusted, and I couldn't bring myself to flatter him.

I had planned to drive to the nearby shopping mall and cinema, because young girls couldn't resist the temptations there, and Yang Fei probably couldn't either. I was going to try my luck and see if I could bump into Yang Fei.

But unfortunately, I didn't see her. That's right, if it weren't for the accidental meeting last time, I wouldn't be facing her revenge this time. We were simply people from two different worlds.

The phone rang again. This was the fifth call Feng Feng had made to me. Looking at the time, the art exhibition had already ended two hours ago. I didn't need to guess, I knew Feng Feng was definitely calling to chew me out. I was also feeling frustrated because I couldn't find Yang Fei, so I simply turned off my phone and ignored him.

The sky was slowly darkening, and a faint crescent moon could be seen in the distant night sky. The setting sun still hung high in the heavens, as if reluctant to leave, but it eventually made way.

I drove aimlessly, suddenly feeling a hollowness in my stomach. I knew it was time for dinner. I drove the car into an alley and found "Li Family Noodle Shop". I went in and ordered a vegetarian noodle.

Because there were many people, the noodles weren't served quickly. The noodle shop was playing Jay Chou's Sunny Day.

I was lost in thought as soon as I heard the song, because during my university days, Mi Xinxin and I would come for a bowl of vegetarian noodles every night, and she would add an extra egg. While waiting for the noodles, she would sing Sunny Day for me.

"Once upon a time, someone loved you for a long time..." Hearing this, my eyes began to redden slightly.

But soon, a refreshing, faint scent of gardenia pulled me out of my daze, and my consciousness slowly began to regain clarity.
