Chapter 15 - Yang Fei's Generosity

"Um... Fei-jie... could you... help your dear, beloved Xiao Qi-ge a little?" I stammered, looking at Yang Fei, afraid of upsetting her.

"Oh? Now it's Fei-jie, Xiao Qi-ge? Weren't you just calling me Fei-fei, Xiao Fei-fei a moment ago? Sounds like you need a big favor!" Yang Fei teased, looking at me.

"Aiya, Fei-jie, don't tease me. I won't dare to be a hooligan with you anymore. Xiao Qi-ge was wrong."

"Bah, you can't trust a dead hooligan!" Yang Fei raised her right hand as she spoke, intending to hit me.

I saw the gesture and immediately tried to dodge, but because I had scraped my knee, and coupled with the force I had just used, my knee tightened. I almost fell forward again. Fortunately, I grabbed the nearby table, or I would have taken another tumble.

"Haha... haha... haha, Xiao Qi, you really are a big idiot!" Yang Fei was gasping for breath from my ridiculous actions, laughing non-stop.

The waiter nearby, seeing my clumsy behavior, was worried I might get hurt in the shop and try to blame them, so he kindly reminded, "Sir, we just mopped the floor here, it's a bit slippery. Please be careful."

"Damn, what mopping? There's such obvious hair on the floor, do you think I'm blind? How can you not see that!" I thought to myself.

"Thank you, I will be careful," I replied politely to the store clerk, who looked to be about thirty.

I saw Yang Fei still laughing at my stupid behavior, so I leaned in close, about ten centimeters away. Yang Fei's hand came down on my face with a "shua" sound.

"You pervert, still up to no good?" Yang Fei said, looking at me meaningfully.

"Hey… I…" Yang Fei's hand remained firmly pressed against my face.

I didn't try to move her hand. Her skin was incredibly smooth, leaving a lingering "autumn" fragrance on my face, even though it wasn't quite the end of autumn.

I wanted to continue enjoying this "autumn" fragrance, letting my breath linger greedily.

But my dream was shattered in an instant.

"Ew! You pervert, your drool is so disgusting!" Yang Fei quickly pulled her hand away from my face, then gave me a disgusted look. She pulled out a few wet wipes from her bag and repeatedly wiped her fair hands.

I realized then that my saliva had gotten on Yang Fei's hand, and a string of it was dangling from my mouth.

Yang Fei was finally disgusted by my appearance, so much so that she forgot how to humiliate me. She could only glare at me angrily. Normally, she would point at me or do something when she wanted to scold me, but this time she clasped her hands tightly in front of her chest, as if she couldn't give me any more advantages.

"Hey, can you stop being so disgusting? You're such a freak!" Yang Fei's tone became a bit harsher.

I also realized that the tall, imposing, handsome image I had built up in her mind was gone.

"Ahem." I unconsciously cleared my throat, knowing that it was useless to explain anything now. The best way was to avoid it and start a new topic.

"Um... let's talk business... be serious, I'm not joking!"

"You think I'm joking with you?"

I was choked by Yang Fei's words because she was clearly more serious than I was, and her words were so forceful.

...

"Are you going to tell me or not? If you don't, I'm leaving!" Yang Fei's tone was no longer the lighthearted banter of before. I knew this was her last chance.

"I'll tell you, I'll tell you… It's like this." I explained in detail what had happened between Feng Feng and me to Yang Fei, who could determine whether we'd be eating ramen or nothing at all for the next two months.

"So… you're saying you want me to cover the remaining sixty thousand?"

Judging by Yang Fei's tone, she probably wasn't keen on the idea. After all, we'd only known each other for two days. Asking a woman for sixty thousand in such a short time wasn't exactly fair.

I wanted to find some way to convince Yang Fei to help us with our immediate financial crisis. My own salary didn't matter so much, but it was crucial for Feng Feng. If he didn't meet the ten-thousand-profit goal for the art exhibition within two days, he wouldn't get any more opportunities from Old Zhao. He'd also have to make up the remaining shortfall himself, and possibly even be kicked out by Old Zhao. That would be devastating.

Feng Feng was one of my few friends in Shanghai. Every day after the monotonous work, I'd ask him to go to Old Chen's BBQ Shop for a meal. Only then did I feel a sense of belonging, and only then wouldn't I get sucked back into the vortex that Mi Xinxin had created for me.

Therefore, I had to help him. I couldn't lose this friend.

But Yang Fei didn't hesitate as I'd expected. Instead, she was very carefree. After a moment of thought, she nodded in agreement.

"No problem, I'll pay the sixty thousand. Just bring the painting over tomorrow."

I was immediately taken aback by her words. I quickly looked at her and asked, "Don't you want to know who I'm helping? And... and why are you being so straightforward?"

I was about to say more, but Yang Fei cut me off immediately.

"Stop, stop, stop! Can you stop talking so much nonsense!"

"Get your phone out, add my WeChat first, and I'll transfer the money to you."

Yang Fei didn't give me a chance to speak. She immediately reached into my pocket and took out my phone. Since I didn't usually lock my phone, she easily opened my WeChat and added me as a friend.

"Here, your phone. Remember to collect the money." With that, Yang Fei transferred the sixty thousand without any hesitation.

I transferred 60,000 to Feng Feng in front of her. Since it was almost ten o'clock, and Feng Feng liked playing games, he didn't reply to me right away.

After I finished everything, I put my phone back in my pocket, thinking about how to thank Yang Fei, who I'd had a conflict with but had just solved a big problem for me.

"Um… thank you so much! Let's eat together sometime," I said, looking nervously at Yang Fei, hoping she'd give me a chance to express my gratitude.

"Haha, no need for a meal. Just remember to bring the painting over tomorrow," she replied, turning and walking towards her BMW parked on the side of the road below.

"Wait, you haven't told me the address yet!" I called out to her quickly.

But she didn't answer and went straight to her car. Then, with a roar of the engine, the steel beast's roar echoed through the night, as if tearing the darkness apart.

I watched her disappear from my sight.
