Chapter 25 - Chapter 24 — First Day

POV: Hex

Monday morning felt different. I was staring at my school uniform, the one Keifer had brought me yesterday. It smelled like adventure… like something new was waiting for me. I fumbled with the buttons and sleeves, trying to make it look neat. I wanted to look like a real student… but deep down, I didn't feel like it.

A soft knock came at the door.

"Aren't you coming for breakfast, Hex?" It was Aunty Katherine.

I peeked out, and she smiled warmly. "Wow, look at you! You look so nice. Really handsome today."

I blushed a little. "Thanks, Aunty."

I went to the kitchen. Breakfast was ready, and the smell made my stomach grumble. I asked carefully, "Um… will Jayjay come and send me to school today?"

Aunty Katherine shook her head gently. "No, sweetheart. She has school too. Luna will take you."

Luna! My heart sank a little.

A few minutes later, Luna came downstairs, looking cheerful. She lived here with her boyfriend for now, but I wanted to live alone. Jayjay insisted Aunty Katherine couldn't handle me by herself, so here I was.

Luna sat beside me at breakfast. "So… ready for your big first day at your new school, Hex?"

I nodded silently, pushing my food around. I grabbed my new school bag and headset that Jayjay had sent. My hands itched to just run to Jayjay and tell her how much I wanted her here… but I stayed quiet.

Finally, we left. The drive felt long. I couldn't help asking, "Has Jayjay called?"

Luna shook her head. "Nope… but she probably will later. Don't worry, you're going to be fine. You're brave, smart, and way cooler than you think. Think of today as a new adventure—you'll meet friends, learn new things, maybe even find some fun trouble."

I tried to smile, but my chest still felt heavy. I wanted Jayjay.

The school appeared in the distance, massive and bright. My stomach flipped. I waved at Luna, "Thanks for everything."

Just as I was about to step through the gate… a voice stopped me.

"Won't you hug me before you go?"

My head snapped up. There she was—Jayjay, in her school uniform, standing by Luna. My heart did a double flip.

I ran to her and wrapped my arms around her. She laughed softly, teasing me, "Careful, Hex, don't crush me!"

I giggled too, just a little, feeling braver with her there. We teased each other for a moment, small smiles and quick words… and then I heard the bell inside, reminding me this was real. School was waiting.

Even though I was nervous, even though I wanted her by my side all day, I felt ready… because Jayjay was here, even if just for this hug.
