Chapter 23 - 23 - Religions

Anyway, the main reason why I started learning about the history of this world in the first place was to know more about the different religious groups.

There are four main religions that hold power in this whole world; [The Radiant Church], [The Umbral Covenant], [The Verdant Communion], and [The Crimson Accord].

These religious groups follow the Sun God, the God of Night, the Goddess of Earth, and the God of War, in that specific order.

[The Radiant Church] is the strongest and most prominent among all of them, it has the largest number of followers spread throughout the world, which makes its influence massive and powerful no matter where you go.

The reason they are so dominant is because they possess incredibly strong paladins... And they currently have five heroes serving directly under them, and those five individuals are all ranked in the top 20 strongest people in the world.

'This is the kind of group that is actively searching for someone like me... A vampire.'

I thought that to myself with a deep frown on my face.

No, I should probably scrap that thought; all of these religions will hunt me down without hesitation once they eventually learn about my race. It's not just the churches either, the entire alliance of all the living races will be on my tail as well.

'I am a demonic being after all, which makes me their common enemy.'

My head began to ache after I learned more about how bad my current situation really is, and it seems that I simply cannot live as carefree as I had originally thought. Once I am found out to be a Demonic Vampire, I can pretty much kiss this second life of mine goodbye forever.

"Haaaah..."

I put away the three books I had been reading and just stared up at the ceiling of my room.

"Should I try to find any of the Demon Kings and come under their wing for protection?"

I asked myself that, but I immediately brushed off that idea as soon as it came to me.

I just know it would be way too tiresome being the henchman of those lunatics, and if I actually did something like that—

"Then I will really establish myself as the public enemy of this entire world."

I stood up from the bed and just tried to set aside those annoying thoughts in my head.

'Whatever happens, I will live however I want just like I usually do— I will just think of myself as a third force that is completely different from the race alliance and the demon kings.'

I would be a neutral force, if I might say so.

I won't consider myself to be a part of any of those sides.

Tok- Tok- Tok—

Anyway, just then, I heard a sudden knock coming from my door.

I immediately got up to reach it and opened it, and there— a person I did not know at all greeted me.

"How can I help you?"

I asked him.

Then, the guy handed me a fancy looking bag that was fairly big; it reminded me of an ecobag I used to bring when I went to buy my groceries back in my old world.

I took the bag from him, feeling quite confused.

"Those are the clothes you bought from our shop yesterday, I was told to deliver them here as soon as possible. You are Sir Verc, right?"

But then, the guy spoke up and said that, clearing up everything for me in an instant.

"Oh, that is right... That is me."

I said.

'So it is already morning, huh. I really did stay up all night studying about this world and how it works.'

I thought that as I looked over at the window of my room.

I did not notice it before, but the bright morning sunlight was now peeking through the gaps in the curtains.

"Thanks for bringing it all the way here."

I opened my mouth, saying that to the delivery guy.

"It was just my job, there is nothing to thank me for."

He replied to me with a friendly smile.

I was about to end the short conversation and send him off so I could try on the new clothes, but before I could even say a word—

"I am guessing that you are trying to meet the saintess of the [Radiant Church], and that is why you bought such expensive new clothes, right?"

The delivery guy went and said that, giving me an all-knowing smile.

"Huh? What...?"

I asked that unconsciously, my face feeling slightly shocked.

"Oh, come on, sir... Everyone knows that the saintess is right here in this city, she arrived some time ago. Everyone is dying to even catch a tiny glimpse of her, and that is why the local church is bustling with people right now."

The delivery guy explained.

"It was rumored that the saintess is as beautiful as the angels themselves, and many young nobles want to ask for her hand in marriage— but seeing you right now, sir; I think you have the highest chance of all. Your beautiful face will probably be on par with the saintess, and with our fancy clothes; you will stand out even more!"

He added all that, flattering me, but I was not really paying any attention to his talking anymore.

Instead—

'Ugh, I think I really have to leave this city.'

I was already thinking about relocating again. Which is annoying because I haven't even spent a week here.

*****

The saintess of [The Radiant Church].

She is known as one of the most beautiful people in this entire world. But that is not the only thing she is known for either—

'She's also famous for being the tenth strongest person in the world— she is not just a saintess, but she is also a hero who has been blessed by the four gods.'

Just knowing that someone as powerful as that is staying in the same city as me is making me very anxious. She's in a religious group that hates my existence, after all.

Anyway, I remembered what happened at the gate, when we had just arrived at the City of Nash—

"So that was her."

I mumbled that to myself.

Back then, [Danger Sense] gave me a very strong warning that something inside that golden carriage could kill me in an instant.

I felt a gaze back then that made my whole body freeze up and caused cold sweats to start appearing on my back.

If I had reacted the wrong way at that time, I probably would not even be alive right now.

'Miguel and the others are buying things today, and tomorrow early in the morning; they will go back to the village. I will leave the city with them.'

So for now, I really need to lay low and avoid attracting any unnecessary attention to myself.

'Though, I still need to bring these books back to the library.'

I said that, frowning as I looked down at the three thick books sitting on top of my bed.
