It has been months since Naruto's birthday party and Shikamaru has turned 24. Today is his birthday and he was both sad and happy. He was sad as today will be his last day in the village and he was happy because he was also going to new village which will be like a new adventure for him after the war and everything.
His friends wanted to throw him a grand party but he decided against it. Instead he gave them a small party in the village. Naruto, Kiba and Choji were emotional and crying others like Sasuke, Ino and Sakura were sad but did not show it on their face. He hugged each one them and told he is just settling in a new village and would try to come by once a year to meet everyone.
After hearing this, Everyone gave some gifts to him like Naruto, who gave him a device. Naruto said "This is a device I got from my mother. It came with a letter but the language was illegible for me. I used it accidentally when the fox took control over me. It helped me talk with my mother and control the fox. But its not working since then." Shikamaru stared at Naruto and said "I don't want this as it is something important to you given by your mom." Naruto then stopped Shikamaru midway and said "My mother's chakra was in the device that is why I was able to see and talk with her, but the chakra is long gone and the device is now broken. I gave it you because I know you can fix it. Use it as it would fit you. I think it will be more useful to you than me." Shikamaru thought for a moment then took it. He told thanks to Naruto in a mocking way , as he gave a broken device.
Choji gave a cook book which might help him in his daily life. Shikamaru accepted gratefully with tears and then hugged choji.
Sasuke also gave something related to his mother "Mikoto" as a gift to him. It was a sword made by mikoto. Sasuke said that this was one of the sword his mother bought for him when he was a child. He said that this sword can be useful for Shikamaru to defend himself from dangers. Shikamaru accepted the sword after knowing this was just a one of the sword mikoto gave to Sasuke. So, he was not stealing something that important from Sasuke.
Sakura gave him a ear-ring which can store chakra and convert it into medicanal chakra although in small amounts. She said it could store enough chakra to heal one fatal injury. Although, it cannot take away the pain if the injury is more lethal.
Ino gave him bag which has clothes both for men and women. When asked why the women clothes are packed. She said he might meet someone in the years even if he did not like it. So , he might give to the women then. Shikamaru laughed at this but accepted it.
Kiba gave some money, hinata gave him some food for the journey. Shino just gave him a "bottle of pills" saying it will help him in the cold.
After all this he said his farewell. He then went towards the gates and got into a carriage.
In the carriage there was no one except him and coachman. The coachman was an old guy who asked Shikamaru where should he take him ?. Shikamaru said village "Sura". The coachman took some time and then said it would cost him 70 ryo. Shikamaru agreed to that and they began the journey to Village "Shura".
The old guy said it would take a 3 weeks to go to the entrance of the forest. Shikamaru sighed but did not say anything. The old guy then continued by saying that he will leave Shikamaru near the entrance of the forest from where Shikamaru has to somehow cross the forest to get to the village of sura.
Shikamaru was sitting in the carriage thinking of what to do once he reaches village "sura". He than thinks of farming and fishing as it will be simple. He chose a very simple life by leaving behind Konoha. He prays that all goes well till he reaches Sura.
It has been 1 hour since the journey began. Shikamaru was dosing of as the old guy remained silent and was just driving the carriage. Shikamaru then gets a dream in which he was near the entrance of the forest and some voice was telling him not to get inside as he would die. He woke up because of the voice and realised he was still in the carriage and there was nothing happening. He left a sigh of relief and then tried to go back to sleep but he could not sleep as they were going on muddy road and it has bumps so now and then the carriage would shake a little, this made it harder for him to catch a wink. So, he decided to remain awake and go through the gifts given by his friends.
First, he took the gift given by Sakura and examined it for few seconds, after that he kept it in his bag again. Then he thought about the device given by Naruto. He then took it out and started examing it. It was made by "Kushina Uzumaki". She was the mother Naruto. Shikamaru started thinking about what he knew about her, "she was a Uzumaki so she must have had large chakra reserves and she probably red hair. I never met her but I know she was a strong and beautiful woman. If I had the opportunity I would like to meet and talk with her." He then started fiddling with the device. The device was like a box and it was wrapped in the letter Kushina wanted to Naruto to read. Shikamaru takes the letter and tries to read it but fails as it was written in an unknown language and he could not decipher it.
Soon, 3 hours passed like this.
