Chapter 14 - So... you're a clown?

The isolated space came apart, but not fast enough.

By the time it collapsed completely, Leona had beaten the living daylight out of Si-eun— no, even that was an understatement.

It felt like he'd been run over by a train.

'Crazy witch, she could've held back just a little.'

She dragged him by the collar of his tunic, while he helplessly let it happen, after all she'd made sure to beat him till there was barely any strength left in him.

Their mother came running towards them, holding an elixir in one hand, which was undoubtedly for Si-eun, at least his mother cared, unlike the duke.

Leona's steps slowed while Si-eun allowed his focus to wander elsewhere.

His gaze settled on the duke, eyes wide with betrayal that even a passerby could tell what they were saying.

'Y-You betrayed me.'

The duke's lips curled slightly as if to say that he was never on Si-eun's side.

Even Nathan was giggling with glee at his predicament, what an unfaithful sibling, Si-eun even went out of his way to invite the gremlin for tea yet he was laughing at Si-eun's beat up form.

Alvina on the other hand was silent, if anything Si-eun had expected her to throw some half baked insult at him but contrary to his expectations, she didn't.

She just stared at him with an unusual level of seriousness.

'Did something happen to Alvina? Why is she so silent and why is she staring at me?' He mused.

When she noticed him staring at her, her lips curled up into a mocking smirk.

"You had it coming, idle heir."

Si-eun raised a brow then opened his mouth to speak, with visible effort. However before he could, his mother emptied the elixir into his throat.

His face morphed in shock and disbelief as he tried to spit it out, it turns out, it was very possible to throw up backwards.

Mainly because Leona chose that exact moment to toss his ass on the cold floor.

"Eughhhh!" He groaned, face twisting with disgust.

When playing the game, he'd watched characters gulp elixirs down like it wasn't a big deal, so why the heck was it so bitter.

He wanted to ask, however at that moment his mother spoke.

"Azazel dear, when did you awaken? You've become a resonator."

Her expression was closely akin to pride and… relief?

'Seems the former Azazel wasn't awakened, then does the class and awakening have something to do with my encounter with the trickster god?' he thought.

No matter how he cogitated, he couldn't recall anything related to his awakening besides the part where the trickster god had mumbled some random nonsense like a drunkard about being his chosen or whatever.

If he narrowed the events that happened, then his soul was sent to this body two days ago and before then, it seemed like Azazel wasn't an awakened resonator and showed no sign of awakening either, that meant that his supposed awakening had happened immediately after the deranged trickster god had spoken to him.

Noticing the silence in the living room and the eager look on his mom's face, he sighed.

"Two days ago."

The elixir had already begun its work, mending his wounds at a noticeable rate.

"What class did you awaken?" The Duke suddenly asked.

At his question Si-eun shifted uncomfortably.

His mind raced because he didn't know how to break the news to them.

What could he even tell them?

That he awakened as a clown? Heck he didn't even understand how his class worked.

But from the glimpse of it, he was probably a jack of all trades.

Maybe his blessing allowed him to mimic other classes, based on what he'd seen so far, his guess was probably close.

The only thing which confused him was the conditions.

The world of Fallen Paragons was a difficult game, which meant there were no overpowered classes… without restrictions.

It was probably made with the difficulty of the game in mind, since that was the case, each class had restrictions to balance them out.

If your class was overpowered then it meant your restriction was equally as devastating if not more.

From the message that popped up within his soul mirror, his class likely adjusted his stats according to the danger he was in.

If that was so then his class was stronger than he'd initially anticipated, in fact the possibilities were endless, not only would it increase the rate of his survivability but also enable him to fight on equal terms with people who were stronger than him.

Still, he couldn't help but feel worried.

The pros were great… exceptional in fact that he couldn't help but worry if the cons were something he could handle.

He averted his gaze from the Duke then replied in a subdued tone.

"Ermmm, jester class."

"Huh?" Both Leona and his mother reacted in unison.

Alvina and Nathan were giving him strange looks as well.

"So… you're a clown?" Alvina asked, her voice more curious than mocking.

Nathan on the other hand was trying his hardest to suppress the inevitable laughter that came.

'Brats.'

Si-eun clicked his tongue.

The Duke however kept his poker face, he remained silent for a few seconds then inquired.

"Elaborate, is there something more to the class or are you merely a clown as Alvina suggested."

Si-eun's eyes twitched in annoyance but he responded nevertheless.

"I believe the jester class is a jack of all trades type of class, from what I've observed… it seems capable of mimicking another class depending on the situation."

His father hummed, once.

Perhaps satisfied or maybe just disinterested, no one could tell what was going on in that unpredictable mind of his.

"That's quite the unique class you've got, I've never heard of one like that before, it seems your efforts are finally being recognized by the heavens, I'm glad." She gave him a heartfelt smile which immediately melted all his fatigue.

His face turned towards Leona who just scowled at him then left the living room with unhurried steps.

By then the maids who were waiting outside followed her closely while some came to clean up the mess their little brawl had created.

Convenient isn't it? Being wealthy I mean.

In any case, Alvina and Nathan also left the living room to attend their respective lessons, Alvina had archery practice while Nathan went for his spell craft lessons.

Si-eun on the other hand couldn't leave, he felt like he owed his parents an explanation but thankfully he was spared the trouble.

His mother gave him a knowing smile, a rather genuine one that radiated warmth.

"It's fine Azazel, you don't have to say anything… I'm just glad you're safe."

The words hit him like a knife to his chest, in all his life as Si-eun no one had ever told him that.

His lips quivered while his eyes blurred with unshed tears.

Duke Astavore being the party pooper he was, just had to ruin the mood.

"You spoil him too much, Rose."

His gaze met Si-eun's, although they seemed cold, Si-eun could notice a hint of pride in the way his father stared at him.

"Still I'm glad you've manned up and have started taking responsibility for your actions, you have three days to prepare, you'll be attending the academy as an assistant to the fifth prince, as per your deal with the king."

Si-eun was completely stunned because… he had forgotten about the academy entry exams.

'Ah… I'm finished.'
