Chapter 3 - Ascension (2)

Looking at the growling wolves, I quickly dashed toward them.

The 2 wolves both lunged toward me; however, I simply slid under them before grabbing one wolf and stabbing my dagger through its head.

The wolf I stabbed turned into pixels in my hands as the other wolf jumped toward me.

As it headed toward me, I brought out my throwing knife before I threw it at the wolf. The knife quickly pierced the wolf's head as it soon turned into pixels before the wolf's fang bit into my neck.

[You levelled up!]

"Sweet,"

I then opened my status window again.

[Level: 5]

[XP: 15/637]

"Not bad, I gained 5 levels in a minute of hunting," I murmured as I held back tears.

'Is this how easy it was in the beginning?'

This spot was a very good EXP grinding spot; however, it was monopolized by a guild, so regular players couldn't grind here unless they wanted to make an enemy of the guild. I then glanced at some of the players around me. They seemed to be struggling with the monsters in this forest.

It was to be expected after all the beta players were in a completely different region due to their knowledge. So people who haven't played a game like this would have trouble adjusting.

But with my future knowledge, though, this was a breeze.

"I should distribute my stat points,"

"That should do,"

Nodding in satisfaction, I grinned as I looked in a certain direction. In the distance, I was able to see a giant pillar that stretched to the skies as it reached for the heavens. I couldn't see its top; however, looking at it made me excited.

The Tower Of Ascension.

It was a tower with 100 floors, each floor having a boss to be cleared, and with it a bunch of loot. Not only can you get a bunch of loot from that place, but you can also get unique skills and items along with a bunch of levels.

The loot got better and better on each floor; however, in my previous life, no one could get past floor 50. Despite there being many attempts by powerful guilds, no one was able to even get the boss monster down to the yellow.

As a result, the climb was halted, and most people didn't try to challenge the boss and instead tried to explore the floors of the tower to get loot and EXP.

However, to access the tower, a player needed to pass level 25, and only then could they access the first floor.

"Let's get to level 15 for today,"

Looking down, I looked at the 2 pellets on the floor,

─────────────────

Name: Wolf Pelt

Type: Material

Tier: Common

Item Description: A coarse, grey hide harvested from a forest prowler. It still smells faintly of pine and wet earth, but it's thick enough to keep a commoner warm through a winter night.

─────────────────

Leaning down, I touched them, causing them to turn into pixels in my arms.

"Hm?"

Noticing something, I bent over and picked up the object.

─────────────────

Name: Wolf Fang

Type: Mundane item

Tier: Common

Item Description: Yellowed and jagged, this canine tooth was once the pride of a pack hunter. While no longer deadly on its own, it remains a sharp reminder of the wild's dangers

─────────────────

Putting it in my inventory, I nodded before standing back up.

Flipping the dagger in my hand, I quickly charged toward a boar-like monster. I shot toward them like an arrow. Thanks to buffing my constitution, I was able to get faster.

Stabbing my dagger into the boar, who was surprised; however, the next moment it turned into pixels, and 2 more items dropped to the floor. Picking them up, I put them in my inventory before I quickly jumped onto a tree as I looked around for something.

However, as I hopped around, I stopped on a branch as I looked at a particular scene in front of me.

3 players were fighting a singular wolf.

Compared to the rest of the wolves I had fought, it had bigger and darker fur.

"Oh, a mutant? How lucky,"

I observed the battle from the tree and couldn't help but be amazed.

'It's only been 2 days, yet these guys look stacked.'

I looked at the swordsman in the front. I saw him swing his sword at the wolf and stab it near its neck; however, thanks to its thick fur, it didn't seem to leave a deep scratch.

Jumping back, the swordsman took another stance.

Then one of the members started chanting, causing the swordsman to have a golden hue to envelope him. He charged toward the black wolf again, who had backed into the shadows of the trees blocking the sun's light.

As the swordsman charged toward the wolf, he swung his sword. However, the wolf let out a bark, and out of the shadows appeared dark chains made of shadow, wrapping around the swordsman, holding him in place.

The giant wolf lunged toward the swordsman before biting his head off.

Soon after, the headless body turned into pixels and dropped a pouch on the ground. The wolf snarled at the remaining 2, who backed away slowly.

Soon after, the one holding a mage staff tried to cast a spell; however, the wolf lunged at him before he could properly cast it. The wolf dug its claws into the mage, and soon after, it turned into pixels, and the same with the swordsman. A brown pouch dropped to the floor. The wolf then turned its attention to the priest, who was now running.

But the dumbass was running into the forest. As he ran, shackles and chains made of shadow quickly wrapped around him. The guy struggled in the dark chains, but then he noticed me up in the tree.

"Hey! Help!"

Looking at the guy who was struggling, I sighed. Opening my palm, a throwing knife appeared in my hand.

His face brightened before his head was ripped from his body. Soon after, his body turned into pixels.

As the huge black wolf snapped its jaws a couple of times, it let out an annoyed snarl. With a swift motion, I threw the dagger, and it penetrated the eye of the wolf, who let out a pained roar. Quickly jumping down, a dim blue glow surrounded my feet, and I dashed toward the wolf as my dagger appeared in my hand. With inhuman speed, I charged toward the black wolf and stabbed my dagger near its neck.

[Critical Hit!]

Despite the wolf thrashing around, I held tight and put my newly upgraded strength stat to use. Pulling myself up with the dagger, I got on top of the wolf. Snarling, I saw the tendrils of shadows move around it. Stretching out my other hand, a tusk of the giant boar appeared in my hand before I stabbed at the wolf's other eye. It screamed; however, it wasn't dead yet. Seeing its HP bar continuously going down, I kept shoving it into its head, but the wolf suddenly lunged forward before stopping.

Thanks to that unexpected motion, I was thrown off and slid on the floor. However, in the next instant, I quickly stood up and activated my skill [Silent Movement]. I quickly ran toward the wolf whose ears were twitching.

It then sniffed the air; however, it was too late.

Grabbing my dagger, I then locked my legs around its neck as I pulled myself up, along with pulling the dagger out of its neck. I then stabbed my dagger into its head.

-Ding!

[Congraugtion! You have Slayin an Umbra Wolf]

[You levelled up!]

[You levelled up!]

The body of the black wolf turned into pixels, causing me to fall to the floor. With a breath, I picked up my throwing knife and fang of the wolf.

Putting them into my inventory, I then turned my attention to what I got from the wolf. On the floor was a black pelt, and beside it was a wolf's fang, but darker than the fang I had.

─────────────────

Name: Sooty Black Wolf Pelt

Type: Material

Tier: Rare

Item Description: The fur doesn't just look black; it seems to drink the light around it. The shadow mana woven into the follicles keeps the pelt perpetually cold to the touch

─────────────────

─────────────────

Name: Obsidian Umbra Wolf Fang

Type: Material

Tier: Rare

Item Description: Unlike a normal fang, this one is translucent and dark as obsidian. A faint purple mist occasionally leaks from the root, a sign of the concentrated mana trapped inside.

─────────────────

"Oh, now that's interesting~"

Putting them in my inventory, I then grabbed the pouches that were on the floor. When a player died, their items that were dropped were put in a spacial bag. Such things were actually quite useful as they stored stuff that the player didn't want to lose. After all, if it belonged to the player, the bag would come with the player after they died and retain the items inside.

They were useful in dungeons and expeditions in the tower, as they could put a rare item in their bag and keep it even after they died.

However, getting these wasn't easy infact it was pretty hard as you either had to find them in a dungeon or a unique quest.

Looking at the brown back that was dissolving into blue pixels, a sigh escaped my mouth.

Unfortunately, you couldn't get these bags from killing players. When you touched them, all of the items in the bag would go into your inventory. And if the bags weren't claimed in 5 minutes, they'd disappear along with the items inside.

"Now let's see what these idiots got,"
