Storm Kingdom

Weeping Town

10 BAC

The winter snows had begun to melt, in the Storm Kingdom anyway, while others were still under the icy grip of the season. Miracle or not, this gave Argilac an opportunity, but it created a problem as well.

Garse was on the move, even with the winter making the marching of his troops hard, an issue Argilac and his host would not face.

"Argella, I never feared going into battle before, but I am worried that if something happens to me, you will be forced to shoulder the burden of this crown at your age; however, I believe you will do well." He had more to say, especially regarding her marriage, but his daughter cut him off.

"I am sure you will return unharmed, Father," she replied, her assuredness dispelling his doubts.

"Aye, I promise," he said and boarded the ship. They would sail from Weeping Town to the territory of House Swann and move on foot from there.

"A pity that the Iron Works wasn't finished in time to arm them properly," Ei thought, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to help. It would have to be covert, of course, but the Electro Archon already had an idea what to do.

It would take the ships around three days to reach their destination, which would give her enough time to instruct Kage on the construction of the assembly.

To the workers and residents of the Weeping Town, Princess Argella's demeanor after her father left had changed. She became more quiet and serious, which the people chalked up to her being worried for her father. Attempts to cheer her up were made to no avail, and they resorted to praying for the king's safe return.

Ei was watching the Storm Kingdom's army march towards Reach, and when you are a god capable of going at speeds that would set a human on fire from the friction, it becomes very mind-numbing. She had even considered annihilating the Reach host, but that would give her father and his host free rein to pillage and loot with impunity. As such, she would only resort to tiring the Reach army out and stop any attempts by the Storm Kingdom soldiers to ravage the villages and towns once they won.

She might be on their side, but had anyone in the Inazuman army committed such atrocities, they would be beheaded for their actions.

This might be a different time and world, but she would not let those people act worse than animals.

By her estimate, the army had three weeks of marching to do before they reached Summerfield, meaning she had plenty of time on her hands, and what better way to spend it than learning about this continent further?

Her first destination?

Old Town and the Citadel.

Ei created an electro platform and leaped, creating a sonic boom as she broke the sound barrier, heading towards this continent's center for learning.

Kingdom of Reach

Oldtown

Sneaking into Oldtown, or any other city, in daylight, especially as a child with her unique looks, would mean trouble.

Not that she couldn't handle them, but rather she didn't want the city to be collateral for when things got out of control.

So here she was, walking into the city in her Carn disguise, after she was questioned by the guards. Even at first glance she could see just how developed it was compared to the Weeping Town.

The first thing that no doubt drew attention was the Hightower itself; the height of it easily made it visible from far away, even before the city itself came into view. Constructed with blackstones and a beacon at the top to guide the ships, it was a marvel of human ingenuity, showing that even if the magic in this world was lacking, that did not mean they could not build great things.

Districts with wide streets between them and well-paved roads, all to facilitate trade and ease of transportation, which the Honeywine River running through the middle of the city also helped.

Wharves were another reason this place was such a successful center for trade and learning, as the former inevitably brought the latter.

The Starry Sept was another sight to behold, a dome-shaped building with black marble walls and arched windows. The High Septon, the gods' voice on this world, as the bearer of the position was also called, resided here. Ei had no intention of setting foot there, so she just walked away, heading to the Citadel.

Two green statues at the entrance were quite eye-catching, one with the face of a woman and another with the face of a man; they were creatures with the bodies of lions, the wings of eagles, and serpentine tails.

A conglomerate of towers and domes, it was a sight she was sure even the wise Dendro Archon would find praiseworthy; their practice of hoarding knowledge, not so much.

She would create an alternative, an academia of her own, to spread knowledge and spearhead research to improve the lives of the people, but it was still an idea well into the future.

"Do you require any assistance?" A man, dressed in robes, approached her, most likely a scribe, one of the acolytes who were tasked with assisting the common citizen by writing and reading letters.

"No, I simply wished to see the Citadel; that is all." She replied with the gruff tone of her disguise.

"I understand. Please don't hesitate to ask for help should you require it." The acolyte said, leaving with a humble nod.

Ei left for the markets, dismissing the idea of sneaking in to peruse the library. The God of Thunder was a warrior first and foremost, and while the value of stealth and subtlety was not lost on her, she still preferred more direct approaches.

Instead, she would let them come to her when they learned of her machines.

Breadbasket of the Seven Kingdoms was an appropriate title for the Reach if the market of Oldtown was any indicator. Stalls filled with a variety of crops and related products, not to mention the other sections of the market, were just one part of why the kingdom was much more developed than the Storm Kingdom.

Raw materials, fabric and clothing, weapons, and other metalworks were aplenty as well, beyond anything she had seen at Weeping Town.

A city with a thriving economy such as this also had a stable and growing population, translating to an ample amount of workforce and military conscripts due to the military practices of this world.

She was going to create a standing army once there was sufficient economic power to support it while taking away the nobility's right to call levies and eventually forbidding them from raising any military to ensure greater control over the land and increase the effective war capability of the Storm Kingdom.

Thousands of soldiers with different leaders did not make an effective fighting force after all.

An organization to oversee the military matters, similar to the Tenryou Commission, would be established, but Ei had no idea where to find a military general with capabilities comparable to Kujou Sara or her dear departed friend, Sasayuri.

Once again, there were plans for the future, and perhaps the Academia she would build can have a military arm to train and educate generals to lead her armies.

There would be inevitable refusals from the nobles to give up their military power, but frankly, the currently existing number of nobility was problematic. It divided the kingdom into too many pieces, with each lord ruling as they saw fit and barely any oversight from the king as long as they were loyal and paid their taxes.

She would crush any rebellion and defang the lords if they rose against her. It might be tyrannical, but Ei did not see any way forward for the kingdom that included the nobles holding so much power.

The future included a lot of work, but at least she wouldn't be idle.

She wandered the city until the sun was setting and decided it was time to leave. Out of sight, she leaped high into the air and disappeared in the starry night sky before choosing a hill with no human activity nearby and going into meditation.

Come morning, Ei opened her eyes when the first light of the sun beamed on her face, noticing her guests.

Her meditation had drawn in quite a crowd, it seemed.

Birds perched on her, and a couple of snow rabbits and does were resting around without a care. Animals were drawn to her at moments of tranquility, especially when she meditated, as the calm and relaxed aura lured them unintentionally.

She waited for a moment as the animals slowly left before setting her feet down, crunching the snow, and preparing to jump again.

This time, she would go and see the rest of the Reach, from Highgarden to Arbor.

Kingdom of Reach

Highgarden

Highgarden, seat of the Gardener Kings and the capital of the Reach, was deserving of its name. Built atop a verdant hill overlooking the Mander, where the Ocean and Rose roads met, it was a castle of white stone, surrounded by three walls, each taller than the one before. She could see the labyrinth from high up in the sky, as well as the older towers, squat and square, and the newer, sleeker towers.

Dotted with fountains, groves, and several courtyards, the whole castle was covered with ivy and other climbing plants. She could also see fields of fruits growing around the castle.

The Reach had wide and fertile lands, yet they were insisting on taking what little arable land the Storm Kingdom possessed. Whether the cause was greed or pride, Ei had no intention of allowing it, and if the Reach persisted in its endeavors, she would carve a trench stretching the length of the whole kingdom, starting where Highgarden stood, to make a warning.

Hopefully, it would not come to that.

Kingdom of Reach

Arbor

Arbor, from the books as well as the conversations of the traders she had listened to, was one of the richest settlements in all of Westeros and had the largest fleet; though most was mercantile in nature, they still had enough to guard the Reach against the Ironborn.

Known for their wines and shipbuilding capabilities, House Redwyne was certainly fortunate as well as hardworking.

She considered landing on the island to mingle, but the Electro Archon did not expect anything new, bar perhaps the wine, which she hadn't drunk for centuries after losing Kitsune Saiguu.

For now, simply observing the island up in the sky was enough.

For three more days the God of Eternity traveled the length of the Reach and could easily say that the rest of it was much the same: fertile lands, rich and lively towns and villages, at least compared to the Storm Kingdom, and a lot of trade, especially with their neighbors, the Westerlands, the wealthiest of the Seven Kingdoms.

This led Ei to conclude they wanted the land to either weaken them further or for a warped sense of honor, because taking it would not make a difference in Reach that was worth going to war for.

Ei, as a warrior, knew the losses brought on by war and wished to avoid it if possible. Yet, if she went and intervened right now, things would be more complicated.

Annihilating the Reach army would mean Storm Kingdom's army would rampage throughout the fertile kingdom, and stopping them would result in a weakened Storm Kingdom, which would be an invitation to Dorne and Ironborn, leading to a mounting number of dead.

Her best option was to ensure her father won but did not progress too deeply into Reach, especially nowhere near a settlement.

Perhaps she could stir trouble in the Dornish border, leaving him with no choice but to make peace with a weakened Reach, with land as war reparations to soothe him.

She still had time to decide, as the Westerlands awaited her.
