Below her, poachers were capturing wild Pokémon, turning them to stone and loading them into machines.

That was right—this was the infamous hunter J, the one Ash encountered in Sinnoh.
This organization specialized in capturing rare Pokémon.
As long as the buyer paid enough, they would get anything.
In the original timeline, she was after a Riolu—but what rare Pokémon had she targeted this time?
Aiden Flint scanned her Salamence.
Level 62 — Elite Four–level.
He raised an eyebrow.
So this Hunter J was no joke.
She was even stronger than Norman and could easily qualify as a Gym Leader—or more.
But since she had met him—
She wasn't leaving.
"Sceptile, use Bullet Seed!"
Sceptile burst out of the forest, unleashing a storm of green projectiles that blanketed the poachers below.
Explosions rang out, and the entire group collapsed unconscious.
Now only Hunter J remained.
Seeing this, her heart sank.
"Damn it—Salamence, use Hyper Beam!"
A massive orange beam began charging from Salamence's mouth.
"Sceptile, Protect!"
A green barrier appeared, completely blocking even that Elite Four–level attack.
"Sceptile—Mega Evolve!"
Since the opponent was Elite Four–level, there was no reason to hold back.
Perhaps today… Aiden Flint would gain his first true Elite Four–level partner.
Brilliant rainbow light engulfed Sceptile.
Mega Sceptile emerged.
Hunter J's expression changed completely.
"What the hell? Sceptile can evolve again?"
But her shock quickly turned into greed.
"Interesting… I'll take that Sceptile. Salamence, Flamethrower!"
"Mega Sceptile—Dragon Pulse!"
Flames roared toward Sceptile—
But Mega Sceptile's Dragon Pulse smashed through them like nothing.
The beam slammed directly into Salamence.
Dragon-type moves against Dragon-type Pokémon meant double damage.
With a pained roar, Salamence lost control and crashed down from the sky.
Hunter J fell with it.
"Flygon, catch me!"
She threw another Poké Ball mid-fall, and a Flygon appeared, catching her.
Another Elite Four–level Pokémon.
The battle… was just getting started.
