Silence didn't leave.
For a long moment....no one spoke.
The lights still flickered across the corridor, but the chaos they once held… was gone.
What remained was stillness.
On the floor, Rhea sat frozen, her hands still holding
Kai.
Not Hunter. Not the monster. Just Kai.
Her fingers trembled against his shirt, as if expecting warmth to return.
As if waiting for his chest to rise again.
"…You're lying," she whispered.
No one answered.
Because no one could.
"You said…" her voice cracked, barely forming words. "You said you're just out of time…" A breath. "…not gone."
Her hand moved to his face. Shaking. Careful. "Kai… get up." Silence. "Get up." Nothing. And then it broke.
A sound tore out of her.
"No!"
Her head dropped against his chest as her body shook violently with sobs.
"I was here...I was right here...why didn't you just...why didn't you just look..."
Behind her, Noah stood still. He didn't move forward. Didn't interrupt. Because this wasn't something he could fix.
For once, there was no solution. Beside him, Evan leaned slightly against the wall, his injured arm hanging uselessly at his side.
His eyes weren't on Kai. They were on Noah. Watching him. Because even from here, even without words, he could see it. The way Noah stood. Like something inside him had finally reached its limit.
"…Noah," Evan said softly.
No response. He stepped closer. Careful.
"Noah…"
This time, Noah blinked. Like he had just come back from somewhere far away.
"…Yeah," he said.
But his voice didn't sound like his.
Evan's chest tightened.
"You're bleeding," he said.
Noah let out a faint breath. Almost like a laugh.
"Not the first time."
Evan didn't smile.
"Sit down," he said.
"No."
The answer came too quickly. Too sharply.
Evan frowned slightly.
"Noah!"
"I said I'm fine."
The words cut through the air.
Evan went quiet. Because he wasn't. None of them were.
Footsteps echoed from the entrance.
More officers. Voices. Radios. Movement. The world was coming back.
Kolon stepped forward, lowering his gun fully now. His gaze moved from Kai…To Rhea…To Noah.
"…It's done," he said.
Noah didn't respond.
Kolon exhaled slowly.
"It's over."
Still...Nothing...Behind him...
Dr. Graham stood quietly.
Watching.
Not the scene.
Noah.
Always Noah.
"You shouldn't have come alone," Kolon added, his tone quieter now.
That got a reaction.
Noah let out a dry laugh.
"We weren't alone."
Kolon didn't reply.
Because looking around it didn't feel like enough.
After everything, after all this, it still didn't feel like a win.
Rhea's sobs had quieted now.
Not because the pain was gone but because it had settled deeper. She slowly lifted her head. Her eyes empty. Tired.
"…Take him away," she said.
The words felt wrong. Unnatural. But she said them anyway. Because she had to.
Two officers stepped forward carefully. She didn't let go immediately. Her fingers tightened slightly. One last time. Then...Slowly...She let him go. Like letting go of something she never thought she'd lose. And this time...She didn't cry. Because something worse had replaced it. Emptiness.
Evan looked away. He couldn't watch that. Couldn't process it. Because somewhere deep down, a thought kept repeating.
That could've been Noah.
His breath caught.
And before he could stop himself, he reached out. His hand wrapped around Noah's wrist. Tight. Noah looked at him. Confused at first. Then, he understood.
Evan didn't say anything. He didn't need to. Because that grip said everything.
You're still here.
Noah's expression shifted.
And just like that he wall he had been holding up cracked.
His breath hitched. Just once. But that was enough.
Evan stepped closer.
And without thinking Noah pulled him into a hug. Not controlled. Not composed. Tight. Desperate. Like holding onto something that almost slipped away.
Evan didn't hesitate. He held him back. Carefully. Despite the pain.
"It's over," Evan whispered.
Noah shook his head slightly.
"…No," he said.
A pause.
"It's just… quiet now."
Evan closed his eyes. Because he understood. Some endings, don't feel like endings.
They feel like something that just…Stopped.
And left everything else behind to deal with it.
Behind them...Graham watched....Kolon turned away....And Rhea sat alone.
Because not every story ends together.
Some End with pieces missing.
And in that silence...They all realized...The case was closed.
