Chapter 36: The God's Rage
"What incredible speed!" A flicker of genuine surprise passed through the Deva Path's Rinnegan. While the Rinnegan possessed immense power, it did not grant the hyper-acute dynamic vision of the Sharingan. In pure visual tracking, the Sharingan was superior.
However, it was not just the Deva Path on the field. The Naraka Path was also present. Though it had been hastily moved aside, it remained within the shared visual range of the Rinnegan. With both pairs of eyes linked, they could just barely track the blur of Uchiha Akira's lightning-fast assault.
There was no time for deeper thought. A black rod, forged from condensed Yin-Yang Release chakra, slid from the Deva Path's sleeve into its hand. It thrust the rod forward, aiming for the crackling blue form of Uchiha Akira.
SCREECH!
Akira's ninja sword, blazing with lightning, swept down in a furious arc. The tremendous force behind the blow smashed into the black rod, sending the Deva Path skidding backwards over ten meters through the mud.
Before the Path could recover its footing, Akira was upon it again. His leg, sheathed in crackling electricity, lashed out in a powerful kick aimed at the Deva Path's shoulder.
BOOM!
The impact was explosive. The Deva Path was hurled like a cannonball into a nearby outcrop of jagged rocks. The collision sent debris and a plume of dust flying into the air, visible even through the heavy rain.
The violent commotion drew the attention of Aburame Shiigo, Hyuga Kaoru, and Yamanaka Shigeyoshi, who were locked in their own fierce struggle with the Animal Path and its summons. The beasts of the Animal Path were formidable, but with their combined efforts, the Konoha trio were holding their own, even gaining a slight early advantage.
Aburame Shiigo's Parasitic Insects had infiltrated the three-headed hellhound, multiplying rapidly inside it and draining its chakra, countering its ability to split. Meanwhile, Hyuga Kaoru's Byakugan rendered the invisible chameleon useless; its location was plain to her. Under coordinated assaults from Yamanaka mind techniques and Hyuga Gentle Fist strikes, the chameleon was quickly dispatched, vanishing from the battlefield.
But the Animal Path was not so easily subdued. With fresh plumes of summoning smoke, a monstrous rhinoceros and a giant, ash-gray eight-clawed crow joined the fray.
"This is becoming a serious problem..." Yamanaka Shigeyoshi muttered, wiping his face. He couldn't tell if the moisture was rain or sweat. Against such massive, bestial opponents, his Mind Body techniques were nearly useless.
"Our mission is to contain this one," Aburame Shiigo stated flatly, adjusting his sunglasses. "We must not let it interfere with the Captain." A dark cloud of insects erupted from his body, rising into the stormy sky to swarm the crow that was circling above and dropping explosive eggs.
Hyuga Kaoru watched the Animal Path, now perched atop a colossal crab, with frustration. This beast's hide is too thick. My Gentle Fist strikes feel like I'm tapping it. "We have no choice," she said aloud. "We must hold them here by any means necessary."
Yamanaka Shigeyoshi nodded grimly, equally aware of their disadvantage against such colossal opponents.
On his side of the battlefield, Uchiha Akira frowned slightly after kicking the Deva Path away. There's something off about this body's toughness. As expected of a construct reinforced with Yin-Yang Release.
The Deva Path's speed and raw strength were inferior to his, but its physical resilience was on another level. It wasn't yet as impervious as the body that would later withstand a Six-Tails-enhanced Naruto's assault, but Akira knew immediately that ordinary taijutsu would not be enough to break it.
Fine. Let's use ninjutsu to bait out his Shinra Tensei first.
His hands flashed through a sequence of seals. "Wind Release: Compressed Storm!"
In the space of a breath, Akira exhaled a dense, condensed ball of white chakra. It exploded outward instantly into a maelstrom of countless razor-sharp wind blades. The technique shredded the rain, scarred the earth, and roared toward the Deva Path's position.
"Wind Release of this scale..." From within the rubble, the Deva Path's eyes narrowed. It brought its hands together.
"Almighty Push!"
An invisible sphere of repulsive force erupted from the Path. The raging storm of wind blades disintegrated on contact, utterly nullified. The force was so powerful it carved a perfect, bowl-shaped crater over ten meters wide around the Deva Path.
Not good! A thought flashed in the shared consciousness. The Deva Path's head snapped toward the Naraka Path's location.
It was too late.
Uchiha Akira had already closed the distance. A streak of lightning, he appeared beside the Naraka Path and unleashed a ferocious assault.
Among the Six Paths, only the Deva Path possessed superior physical prowess, its body terrifyingly hardened by Yin-Yang Release. The other Paths were far more vulnerable.
Amidst the flash and crackle of lightning, Akira's sword became a blinding arc. It fell like a thunderclap.
SCHLICK!
A spray of blood arced through the rain. The tall form of the Naraka Path was cleaved cleanly in two by the lightning-wrapped blade.
The Hell Path was destroyed.
"Damn it!" In a cave several kilometers away, Nagato let out a guttural roar of anger.
"Nagato, what is it?" Konan asked, her voice tense.
"It's nothing," Nagato growled, shaking his head. "A moment of carelessness. Uchiha Akira has destroyed the Naraka Path."
Hearing this, Konan's brow furrowed deeply. "Nagato, perhaps we were too hasty. Maybe we should wait until you have completed all Six Paths before engaging an enemy of this caliber."
"Unnecessary," Nagato replied, his voice returning to an eerie calm. "It was merely a lapse in concentration. Next time, I will not hold back."
Konan fell silent, not wanting to distract him further.
Back on the battlefield, Hyuga Kaoru, Aburame Shiigo, and Yamanaka Shigeyoshi were struggling under the onslaught of the massive summons. Giant creatures were not easy foes.
"Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm!"
Kaoru thrust her palm forward. A powerful blast of compressed air shot skyward, intercepting a cluster of explosive eggs dropped by the circling crow. They detonated harmlessly in mid-air with a series of loud BOOMs.
Suddenly, a look of relief crossed Kaoru's face. "The Captain has eliminated one of the enemies!"
"Finally, some good news," Yamanaka Shigeyoshi said with a strained smile. He had tried his Mind Body Switch on the summoned creatures, only to find their consciousnesses were a chaotic, mechanical void, impossible to grasp or control under such pressure.
A strange, unreadable expression crossed the usually stern face of Aburame Shiigo as he directed his insect cloud to harry the giant crow. Uchiha Akira's strength is absurd. To eliminate a Rinnegan-wielder so quickly after engagement... Behind his sunglasses, a cold light glinted in his eyes.
On the other side, the Deva Path watched the bisected remains of the Naraka Path. The cold indifference on its face shattered, replaced by a boiling, palpable wave of murderous intent. The serene mindset of a detached god completely collapsed in that instant.
With a sharp, violent motion, it extended a hand, pointing directly at Uchiha Akira.
"Universal Pull!"
