Chapter 43 - Chapter 42

Date: August 26, 2012 Location: Tony Ireland Stadium, Townsville. Event: U-19 World Cup - FINAL. Match: India U-19 vs. Australia U-19.

This was the dream final. The Hosts vs. The Favorites. Australia was undefeated. They had crushed South Africa in their semi-final. Their captain, Will Bosisto, was the "Don Bradman" of the tournament—he hadn't been dismissed yet. Their star batsman, Travis Head, was destroying attacks. Their bowling attack (Gurinder Sandhu, Joel Paris) was lethal.

The Atmosphere The stadium was packed. 10,000 people. Mostly Australians in gold jerseys, but a loud pocket of Indian fans with dhols and flags. The "Chak De India" song blared from the speakers.

The Pre-Match Talk Unmukt Chand gathered the team. "This is it, boys. We played Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand. We survived everything. Today, we play Australia in their backyard. The whole world is watching."

He looked at Sai. "Sai, Bosisto hasn't got out in this tournament. He is the Australian Wall. Today, our Wall needs to be stronger."

The Toss Unmukt Chand called "Heads." It was Heads. India Won the Toss. "We will Bowl," Unmukt said. A brave call in a final. But he trusted his pacers on the fresh morning pitch.

Australia Innings: The Sandeep Magic

Over 1: Sandeep Sharma started with a magic spell. He swung the ball both ways. Jimmy Peirson (Opener) – Clean Bowled. 0/1. Meyrick Buchanan – Trapped LBW. 8/2.

Australia was shocked. Their top order was blown away in 20 minutes. Then came Travis Head. He looked dangerous. He hit two boundaries. But Ravikant Singh got him. A beautiful outswinger caught at slip. Australia: 38/4.

The crowd was silenced. India was dominating.

The Resistance

But Australian teams don't just roll over. Captain Will Bosisto walked in. He lived up to his reputation. He was ugly, gritty, and immovable. He partnered with Travis Dean and then the lower order. They rebuilt slowly. Bosisto scored 87 Not Out. He dragged Australia from 38/4 to 225/8 in 50 Overs.

Target: 226. It was a fighting total. A "Finals" total.

The Indian Chase: The Captain's Crisis

Over 1: Prashant Chopra walked out with Unmukt. Mark Steketee (Pacer) bowled a beauty. Chopra edged it. Gone. 0/1.

Over 5: Unmukt Chand was batting beautifully. He hit a six over cover. But at the other end, Baba Aparajith (the form player) fell. A brilliant catch by Ashton Turner at point. India: 20/2. India: 40/3 (Hanuma Vihari out cheaply).

The score was 40/3. Australia was swarming. They were sledging hard. "One more wicket and the plane leaves tonight!" "Choke! Choke!"

Sai Walks In

Sai walked in at Number 5. He joined his Captain, Unmukt Chand. Unmukt was batting on 25. He looked stressed. He was the captain, the star, the author—but he hadn't played a "match-winning" innings yet.

Sai tapped the pitch. "Stay with me, Skipper," Sai said calmly. "Just stay."

The Partnership of the Tournament

Over 15: Joel Paris (Left-arm fast) returned. He bowled across Sai. Sai left it. Paris sledged: "Can't reach it, shorty?"

Sai smiled. Next ball. Paris bowled closer. Sai leaned into the drive. [CLICK] The ball pierced the covers. FOUR.

The Stabilisation Sai and Unmukt batted for 20 overs. They didn't let the run rate climb. Unmukt played the aggressor. Sai played the anchor. Whenever Unmukt played a risky shot, Sai walked down the pitch. "Calm down. We have time. Don't throw it."

Unmukt reached his 50. Sai reached his 30. India: 120/3.

The Turning Point

Over 35: Australia brought back their best bowler, Gurinder Sandhu. Score: 150/3. Unmukt was on 75. Sai on 45. Equation: 76 runs needed off 90 balls.

Sandhu bowled a bouncer to Unmukt. Unmukt hooked it. SIX. It was the shot of the tournament. The "Virat Kohli" shot.

Then, Sandhu targeted Sai. He bowled a yorker. Sai dug it out. [DISSONANCE] - Impact on toe. Sai limped.

"Runner?" The umpire asked. "No," Sai said. "I'm fine."

The Century

Over 45: Unmukt Chand reached his Century. 100 Not Out. He took off his helmet and roared. The burden was lifted. Sai clapped from the non-striker's end. Sai was on 65.

The Finish

Over 47: Equation: 10 runs needed. Unmukt was tired. Sai took charge. Bowler: Mark Steketee.

Ball 1: Length ball. Sai stepped out. [SYSTEM MODE: FINISH] Lofted drive over mid-off. FOUR.

Ball 2: Single.

Ball 3: Unmukt took a single.

Ball 4: Sai on strike. 4 runs needed. He looked at the boundary. He looked at the Indian flag waving in the stands.

Steketee ran in. Full toss. Sai's eyes lit up. He didn't need the System for this. He just swung. The ball flew over square leg. It bounced once. FOUR.

India Won the U-19 World Cup.

The Aftermath

Unmukt Chand fell to his knees. Sai raised his hands. The team sprinted onto the field. Coach Arun, Support Staff, everyone.

Sai was buried under the pile of blue jerseys. He felt the grass of Townsville against his cheek. We did it. World Champions.

The Presentation

Unmukt Chand lifted the World Cup Trophy. Confetti exploded. The fireworks lit up the Queensland sky.

Sai stood at the back, holding his SS Ton. He had scored 68 Not Out in the final. He had averaged 85 in the tournament. He was the silent guardian of the Indian victory.

As the team took the victory lap, Ian Chappell (Australian Legend) was doing commentary. "Unmukt Chand is the star," Chappell said. "But that boy at Number 5... Sai Krishna. He is the glue. India has found a technician."
