Chapter 1 - Chapter 0.0: A New School

There are a multitude of things that a person can be ashamed of, or fearful of them becoming fact. Every single human on this earth, no exceptions will have this feeling. I am no exception, in fact I have significantly more than average. For a 15 year old I have my fair share of shames and secrets. Movement through years changes the shape of these things, whatever they may be, they will grow gradually as you do.

If only I had worse things to look forward to.

I woke early in the morning, it was my first day of highschool at the "Hebamatari Elite High School".

This was the school I had gained admission to recently, an elite high school for those considered to be superior by some realm of imagination. Honestly I only chose to go

because it would be easier, considering that I have family attending, that and some of the clubs looked interesting. I live alone so it would've been easy to decide to go to another school if I really wanted to.

I got up, albeit reluctantly and out of my bed. Grabbing the crisp, brand new school uniform from my wardrobe, looking at it I have to be honest, it's a pretty good looking uniform. Mixing a main colour of

black with white lapels and piping, I would be lying if I said that the uniform wasn't a major contributing factor as to why I chose this

school.

Going into my bathroom, I decided to examine myself in the mirror, and shit did I have some bed hair.

"Man the hell do I get rid of this?" I said to myself, before I did the bare minimum and wet a comb, fixing up my hair to an extent and satisfying me, more or less. If I had one thing to say about my luscious white locks, it's that they pissed me off way too often like

this, barely cooperating with me like they had a mind of their own.

I prepared myself before I finally put on my school uniform for the first time.

"I definitely made the right choice here"

The uniform is really good, what can I say..

Daniel Barrington (14, albeit 15 in 8 days), was about to enter the Hebamatari Elite High School for the first time as a student. The opening ceremony was in two hours, he hurried to the train station so as to not somehow manage to be late on his literal first day. After tapping his travel card and entering the platform, he saw a familiar

face.

"Hey there Randan" I said as I approached him.

"Oh, heya there man" Responded Randan, my friend since primary school, we'd known each other for around 8 years now.

"You know Daniel, you were definitely right about the school uniforms here."

"That's what I'm saying! I totally wouldn't have gone here if the uniforms were fugly, not happening"

"That's fair"

Randan and I continued our idle chatter after boarding the train, it was a 15 minute ride before we arrived.

At the gates of the school now we surveyed the entrance and the buildings visible. The school was absolutely huge, with massive

multi-story buildings, and sprawling grounds laden with sports facilities.

"Damn bro this place is huge.." Randan stated, trailing off with every word he said.

"I know right, gonna be hard to learn our way around this place" I responded, of course I didn't imagine it would be that hard for me but still.

"How long until the entrance ceremony?" I wasn't sure.

"I think there's like 30 minutes or something and they wanted us to be there like 20? minutes early, I think" Thank god Randan had bothered to check at all.

"Well let's just chat here for a bit then, show up on time I guess. Do you think anyone interesting will be in our class?"

"Who knows honestly, you're in class one too right? Guess that means they thought pretty highly of us then"

"They thought highly of me, they let you in out of pity you bum" I knew he wasn't a bum, but it's funnier to denigrate him this way.

"Okay buddy let's pack it up, 'genius', your rating will be lower than mine, I'll bet 20 bucks on it"

"I'll take you up on that deal, but I'll only give you half if I get an A+ in anything"

"Yeah whatever that works for me" Randan relented.

Randan Mercutio (15) was my best friend, and the only person I knew well going into my first year of high school, he was a dependable and solidly capable guy who is a damn good football player. I played with

him but he was definitely better than me in terms of skill. We both intended to join the football team at this school too, although it was apparently terrible and hadn't won anything in like a decade. Other

than that I planned on joining the dueling club, another reason I went

here and a very strange club for a school to have honestly, but I liked it.

"Think we should go in now" I said to Randan.

"Yeah why not, let's head in"

We continued some small conversation on the way there, we entered the hall and a teacher pointed us to our assigned seats, nearly in the front row, disappointing. We waited probably like 15 minutes before

nearly everyone was in and they decided to begin the ceremony. The Principal addressed us first.

"Hello first years, and welcome to the Hebamatari Elite High School, here we intend to push each and every one of you to your absolute limits and assist you in breaking past those and unlocking your true

potential. This school isn't easy, while we let the students manage themselves to an extent, we keep strict rules and structure that will be upheld no matter what. Some of you might not make it to your closing

ceremony in four years, but if you have any worries about being removed from the school due to poor performances then do not, we only expel students for rule violations deemed severe enough. Now, seeing as our President is indisposed at the moment, and our Vice-president is

missing in action, our Student Council Secretary will be doing the speech, welcome to the stage, Michael Barrington!"

At that name, Daniel's eyes widened and he froze up completely. He had been whispering quietly to Randan, but then he stopped completely mid-sentence. Randan looked at him puzzled for a moment, looked at the stage at the fourth year doing the speech and realised immediately why

Daniel had frozen up.

White hair, brown eyes, I think, a massive frame, at least six foot seven. In a second I knew that this was Daniel's older brother, someone he had never gotten along with, seeing that Daniel was considered to be

the "failure of the Barrington family" it made sense his brother looked down on him, but honestly I still didn't know the real reason why he was considered such a failure.

"Hello there first years" Michael said in a booming voice. "I'm your Student Council Secretary and therefore third in command around here, as per my job I manage most of the Student Council's affairs and also

deal with students, so if you have major problems then you come to me first, not the President or Vice-President. The fact of the matter here is that this is your first day, you'll be introduced to the workings of your new school, don't expect a tour from your teacher though, you will be getting paired up with a fourth year volunteer who will be taking groups of 6-10 of you around the campus." Michael had been performing

this speech like a briefing, very matter-of-fact. "Now here's a less informative thing I have to say. This school will not be easy for you, the tests and exams here are possibly twice as difficult as a normal school would be, although I say they hover at around 50% more difficult. The nature of this high school is to test you and see how far your potential goes, don't disappoint those expecting of you, that would be the worst possible thing you could do"

Michael said this while

glaring into Daniel's eyes, and Daniel glared back, he was never scared of him, just shocked to see him after so long. "Now go along and get to your classes, your new homeroom teachers are awaiting your arrival, good luck with the next four years first years"

Michael walked off the

stage after that, and surprisingly the opening ceremony was completed after a very short time. Students left their seats and were directed towards homerooms. Me and Randan made our way to our homeroom, a

seating plan had been prepared in advance for the class which was irritating but I wasn't too far away from Randan, only three seats to the left.
