Chapter 12 - Lilith

Lilith?!

Of course, I knew who this woman was. She was the sole reason why I kept a box of tissue close whenever I played Demon Among Us. Her cut scenes were some of the best parts of the entire game.

But I couldn't dwell on that since her appearance meant the very thing I was dreading.

The story has changed.

I had my suspicions since the moment I saw my true name.

In truth, there was a character by the name of Abaddon in the game. Though he didn't appear in the game apart from a few flashbacks that happened. Abaddon wasn't just any demon. Arguably, his most important role was as the fiancé of the crazy yandere, Lilith. Even thought he was a general, the fact that he was her fiancé out weighted that fact.

Abaddon died during the great war. He was killed by heroes. This is what led Lilith to be one of the main villains of the game. She committed several atrocities in his name. She was crazy obsessed with him. To the point where it drove her mad.

Somehow, I had been given the name Abaddon and also the demonic skill the demon general was once said to possess. I had no idea why or how Lilith would react.

'Maybe she would think that I was her fiancé and become loyal to me.' I hoped.

"From that look on your face, I can tell you're not my Abaddon."

Suddenly, she spoke, and her words destroyed what little hope I had that things would go my way. She uncrossed her legs, stood up, and began walking towards me. Compared to her, I was nothing more than a child. Standing in front of her, I couldn't help but feel like a student being forced to stand in front of the principal.

It was a feeling that annoyed me, but I made sure to keep those feelings buried. Even the slightest whiff of disloyalty could mean the end for my second life.

She rested her slender hand on my chest, suddenly my heart began pounding faster, and my face began heating up. At that moment, I felt it in my chest that I would die for this woman if she asked me to.

[Adaptation failed. Unable to resist the charm effect.]

Her charm was out of this world. My proficiency wasn't nearly enough to resist her allure. She rubbed her hands up and down my chest, feeling my muscles. Her hands were incredibly soft; it made me wonder how she could've been a demon like me.

An obsessive smile grew on her face as she stared at me; she even started blushing.

"You'll be the perfect vessel for my Abaddon once I finally find a way to resurrect him."

Resurrect?! Her words caused an unsettling feeling to well up from the pit of my stomach.

"You mean to resurrect the fallen demon general Abaddon. But what will happen to me?" I asked.

She chuckled softly.

"Isn't that obvious? You will cease to exist; your soul will poof into oblivion."

'I knew it! She is crazy! She wants to kill me to get her lover back.'

"You can't, I have a mission from the demon king," I said.

She paused inspecting my body and instead stared up at me.

"You think my father would care more about one little demon than getting his demon general back? One grunt isn't of much importance to us. We have several more foot soldiers like you. For now, your mission will be focused on maintaining Abaddon's vessel until we find a way to get him back."

It took every ounce of strength I had to suppress my rage. She expected me to sacrifice myself just so she could get her lover back.

What a load of crap!

Still, I put a smile on my face and got down on one knee.

"Yes, Lady Lilith, you're right. It's an honor to be chosen for this task. I thank you greatly!"

Seeing the weak demon bowing before her, Lilith's lips curved up into a satisfied smile.

"It would also be great if you could get your proficiency up so my Abaddon has a comfortable body to return to," she said.

In other words, I needed to work hard so they could snatch everything away from me.

How pathetic does she think I am?!

"Of course, Lady Lilith, I'll work hard so that Abaddon will be satisfied with the body I prepared for him."

Her smile seemed to grow wider.

"Make sure you do. I'll make sure to check up on you every once in a while to see your progress. And keep this in mind…" Suddenly, her eyes emitted a red glow. A glow that caused my entire body to stiffen. "If anything happens to this body, I'll make sure you never know peace, even in hell."

"Yes, Lady Lilith."

Bowing to her made my entire body itch as if I was doing myself a disservice, but I bore with it.

"Good." With those final words, her body began to fade into nothingness. She disappeared as if she was never here in the first place.

"Dammit!" I cursed underneath my breath when I was finally alone.

The heroes and the protagonist aren't the only ones I needed to worry about. I needed to worry about the demons too!

If anyone finds out that I am a demon, then I would be immediately killed if I was lucky. If not, then I would most likely be sold to a guild where I would spend the rest of my life being dissected and experimented on. It didn't matter what I said or did. Even if I joined their side, I would never be accepted as a demon.

While on the other hand, the demons wanted to use me to get their general back. It felt as if I was getting opposition from both sides.

Feeling frustrated, I took a seat on my bed and pulled out one of the demonic eyes I still had in my pocket. I told Sophia that I intended to sell them. It wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the entire truth either.

I only intended to sell one of them.

Looking at the eyeball, I didn't hesitate before putting it in my mouth and swallowing it.

The mimic function of my skill said I could mimic anything that was inside my body, just like I did with the former Damien's skill.

I had a feeling that what I was doing now, was the true purpose of this function.

No, it wasn't just a feeling, I was certain of it. The reason I was certain was because I tested it out by eating a camelion and low and behold, I suddenly had the ability to change colors. I was also able to grow a reptilian like tail and a tongue that could stretch about 1 meter out of my mouth.

I even ate a dragonfly which allowed me to grow its wings. But it was practically useless since I didn't have the skills or even the proficiency to adapt to flying.

By using the mimic function, I was able to mimic the same properties of the demonic eyes.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my eyes. For a moment, the world around me turned black. I fell to my knees and clutched my eyes as I tried to fight off the wave of pain that suddenly crashed down on me.

[Demonic eyes acquired! The Appraisal Eyes!

The moment the notification popped up, the pain also subsided. I slowly removed my hand from my eyes to see a world that had completely changed.
