I finally calmed down, but found it hard to believe.
The day I saw that creature, the fear I felt shook me.
And even though I remembered it clearly, I so etimes doubted myself.
At times, I wanted to think it wasn't real, but I knew I was just looking for convenience.
The only assurance I had from then, was the fact that no one I met ever since knew it.
I'd never even seen anything about it from any book, even though I read do many books.
Untill the moment, when I was told even the name of it.
Calmly, Taylor showed me a picture.
And it was the same as what I saw.
So many questions flooded my brain, and I had to sort them out carefully before proceeding.
Taylor checked the time again, then left to attend to some business
Looking back, I should have realized it wasn't coincidence.
Taylor checked the time, stood, and excused himself.
He left me alone with Lily.
Almost as if that had been his goal all along.
I was left alone with Lily, unsure what to do.
I knew this odd girl would either leave or just ignore me, but no.
She came to sit next to me on the couch, crossing her legs, so her whole body was on the couch.
I looked around, keeping in mind that the room was large, and that there were other couches.
Though this one was large, it put us too close to each other for convenience.
For someone who slapped me and threatened me with a knife, I couldn't put her on a friendly list.
Lily spoke to me when I mentioned the creature, but that should have been it since Taylor, who was the only bridge was gone.
We sat there in silence for a while, then she started to speak.
She didn't talk about school, or anything superficial.
She went straight to the supernatural.
She sounded cold and unfriendly, but I learned from that interaction, and the subsequent ones that she sounded like that almost always.
That day I learned that such frightening creatures really existed in abundance.
And for demons... they could be seen, but just that you needed special abilities to perceive them.
I also learned a lot about Lily. Maybe the right word to use is noticed.
She always looked into my eyes when speaking, only glancing away a few times as she gestured.
Once, she grabbed my hand and drew a shape.
Twice, she stared at me in silence.
And thrice she asked if I understood.
For the first time, I saw a talkative and interactive part of her.
She only stopped when the butler came again with a phone.
Lily took the phone, looked at it, then handed it to me.
I never expected it to be mom.
And in the few minutes we spoke, I came to understand that Taylor had already spoken with her, and she'd agreed to met me stay over at my 'friend's' house.
When the call ended, Lily just took the phone and told me she'd show me my room later, as she'd already heard everything.
I was startled by the turn of events, but dwelling on it wouldn't change facts.
At that moment, I noticed how closely we were sitting.
Even the slightest movement caused more contact.
She leaned her head back, eyes closed in thought.
Her hair was still black, like mine then. We were normal then.
And as I looked at her, my thoughts floated back to the previous conversation I overheard.
I wondered...
Was she interested in me as a person, or there was more to it?
She said I was blank.
He said I wasn't one of them.
She called me "it."
And there was still the person she seemed afraid of.
Him.
She knew so much about strange existences, and she decided to share all this with me, a stranger.
I wanted to ask be why she slapped me, or why we were even having this conversation.
Hesitations stopped my actions, and we sat in silence again.
Taylor returned later, a d Lily showed my 'my room'.
It was just next to her's even thought there were over a dozen rooms.
This was probably so they could monitor me.
After taking a shower, and changing into a new set of clothes, they called me downstairs to eat.
Looking at the table full of delicacies, I glanced at the three people in the room, wondering who made them.
It could be anyone, and no one there.
As the last to arrive, I met a smiling Taylor, and a calm Lily seated and waiting.
While eating, I noticed another thing.
Lily didn't get along well with her father.
I wondered if it had something to do with the absence of her mother.
But then, it was not my place to ask.
I couldn't shake the feeling that I was a tool.
A piece he'd picked up and placed on a board I couldn't even see.
And I was right to think that, as I learned later that Taylor was skilled in using 'tools'.
His intuition was right, which disturbed me.
For someone who'd never met me, how did he know I wouldn't be shot away by Lily?
When the awkward eating session ended, Lily left first.
I left after a while, but when I entered my room, Lily was waiting.
My chest but ed a little.
She looked at me with a frown.
"Don't trust him," she said, then stormed out before I ha the chance to ask.
But...
She didn't have to warn me.
Taylor had a perfect demeanor which didn't seem safe in the slightest.
Anytime he spoke to me, I felt like a snake was coiling in my mind, slipping down onto my body and wrapping me up.
I felt like I was being guided and controlled.
I couldn't help but think of what Lily said earlier to him.
"...suck him dry."
I knew she didn't mean it literally, but I suddenly thought of vampires. But Lily didn't mention vampires when w talked earlier.
Once again, I wondered if I was truly safe, or was I walking I to something dangerous.
I checked the time.
9:47
I should sleep
