The tower went cold under his hand.
Not the whole tower. Just the small patch of stone under Nathan's palm. He felt something leave it and go into him. It didn't hurt. It was quick and light. Then the cocoon in his chest stopped pushing.
It opened.
Pink and white light poured out of Nathan's hand. It spilled across the courtyard in a wide ring, so bright that the black tower turned grey in it. Faen threw his arm over his eyes.
When the light faded, something was sitting on the stones at Nathan's feet.
It was a bunny. Very small. Smaller than Ororo had been on the rooftop. It could have sat in the middle of his palm with room left over. Its fur was white, with soft pink along its back, on the tips of its ears and around its tiny nose. Its eyes were a deep, clear pink.
It looked up at the tower. Then at Nathan.
Its nose twitched.
