Nathan hadn't slept in two days.
He stood in the Anchor chamber with his eyes bloodshot, staring at the World Stone. The crack along its base hadn't grown. But it hadn't shrunk either, and the light leaking out of it was the same sick green as the tear over the northern border.
For two days he had traced every thread coming out of that stone. He had worked out which ones held it to the breach, which ones held it to the palace, and which one held it to him.
And he had finally found what he was looking for.
The stone's voice had told him he could make a new Anchor, and that it would cost him his life. That much was true. If Nathan tied himself to the stone through his Overlord class, he would be replacing the old anchor completely, and nothing that does that walks away afterward.
But he didn't need to replace it.
