AT THE SAME TIME

The silence after Rosalie's question was so heavy I was fairly certain even the candles were nervous. Bella looked like she had reached the stage of panic where the brain simply shuts down to preserve dignity. Unfortunately for her, Wanessa stepped forward. Which meant dignity was about to suffer.
"Oh, that's simple." Wanessa said pleasantly, swirling the drink in her glass like she was explaining the weather. "You arrived just in time."
"No."Bella turned slowly toward her.
"Your daughter got engaged."Wanessa smiled brightly.
Bella covered her face, Charlie looked from Wanessa to Xavier, then back to Bella, then to the ring.
"Engaged."He said.
Xavier stepped forward calmly before Bella could attempt an escape. He bowed his head respectfully.
"Xavier Stoneheart."Charlie said.
"I am aware."Rosalie's eyes sharpened slightly.
Xavier gently lifted Bella's hand, still in his and spoke clearly.
"I am Bella Hearthstone's fiance."Xavier said.
