I never thought Kenneth would stumble straight into a trap.
Every person in the room stared at Kenneth. He froze completely, looking stunned and foolish.
Genevieve let out a sharp gasp when she spotted the scattered objects across the floor, quickly pressing her handkerchief to her lips.
Several golden hairpins and jeweled pieces lay there. I recognized them instantly—my treasured collection.
Kenneth's guilty face told Genevieve everything she needed to know. He'd clearly taken them while I was out.
He hadn't counted on getting caught in the act.
Richard looked stunned too, but his surprise quickly transformed into blazing rage.
His finger shook as he pointed at Kenneth, his face drained of color. "You... you ungrateful fool!"
Ursula's eyes filled with disappointment as she sighed softly and sank back into her chair.
"This family has never raised a common thief. Kenneth became this way because you spoiled him beyond reason.
