I wasn't really looking for Ursula's advice—guilt was eating at me instead.
The thought struck me: 'Today's mess has upset Ursula. No surprise she's rattled. I need to cheer her up somehow!'
Ursula surprised me by taking my question seriously. "Everyone's got a weakness," she said. "When they hit yours, you hit theirs right back. Fighting with your fists is pointless—might feel satisfying for a moment, but it only causes surface pain."
A knowing smile crossed Ursula's face. "If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't be so obvious about it. I'd shift the blame to your father instead—let him lean on Gideon, and through Gideon, handle the discipline. Why dirty your own hands when others can do the heavy lifting?"
My eyes widened as understanding dawned, admiration flooding my expression. "Just like what you pulled off earlier, Grandma?"
