"She might be able to explain what I'm actually going to have to deal with. I could probably learn more from her than I could by trying to figure everything out myself."
She took a breath. "So, yeah. That's why I'm here. I wanted to ask if you'd let me come with you."
Ethan was quiet for a moment. "Okay, I—"
Before he could finish, Hayley immediately stepped forward and took Bettie's hand. "Of course. Of course he'll let you."
Ethan looked at her. "Hayley—"
"I want her to come." She said, then turned toward Bettie with a smile. "I think i'd like you being there too."
Bettie smiled, but her eyes soon returned to Ethan.
Hayley continued holding her hand as they both waited for his answer.
Ethan stared at her for a moment, then sighed. "I don't think I need to reiterate the risks to you. I'm pretty sure you've already thought this through before coming to ask me."
He shook his head, then shrugged. "So, you know what? Fuck it. Sure. You can come."
