Chapter 18 - WHEN SHADOWS LISTENED

In the furthest fold of the Dark Realms, where stars dared not shine and time itself moved like a wounded beast, a single tree stood twisted against the void. Its roots clawed into nothingness, drinking from shadows older than memory. Beneath its skeletal branches, six Minors gathered, their forms half-hidden, half-forgotten, as though reality had never fully claimed them.

Cold voices murmured in unison, then broke apart into whispers. Each word carried weight, yet none were spoken freely. Names were avoided. Truths were bent.

Still, one presence haunted the circle — An existence spoken of only in fragments, wrapped in uncertainty and unease.

The Hybrid....

Its emergence had disturbed the currents of the universe. Ancient signs had shifted. Old seals trembled. The Minors felt it in the way the Dark Realms no longer slept as deeply as before. Yet they hesitated. Knowledge was power, and power, when shared too soon, could become a weapon turned inward.

 Silence fell — thick, deliberate.

At last, one Minor stepped away from the others. His shadow stretched unnaturally long, as if reaching for something beyond the realms. No farewell was given. With a single breath, he dissolved into the abyss, carrying forbidden knowledge toward a throne carved from despair.

The Dark Lord listened. And the darkness answered.

Rage erupted like a silent storm. The air around him warped, bending under the pressure of his will. The Hybrid was no longer an anomaly—it was a fracture, a possibility the universe had not been permitted to create. Long-standing designs now stood threatened by a force that should not exist.

His decree echoed without sound, rippling through every dark corridor of existence.

 The Minors were to move.

They would follow the target from afar, unseen and unremembered. They were to observe the choices made, the paths taken, and the allies gathered. Nothing was to be interfered with—not yet. The Dark Lord had learned something more, something the universe itself had begun to whisper.

A quest was coming — Not one written by prophecy, but by consequence.

As the Minors received their command, the Dark Realms shifted. Shadows stirred. Eyes opened where none had been before. Far away, unaware of the watchers now bound to his fate, the target took his first steps toward a destiny already being hunted.

 And the darkness smiled.
