Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: First Day: Failed to be Human

[MAIN PLOT]

A gentle breeze blew across the foreign land, still trembling with magical energy. Two figures stood in the middle of a vast plain they had never seen before.

With his characteristic blank stare, Zarabis looked around.

"Don't let your guard down, Mijarun."

His sibling straightened up at once.

"Ready! Brother!"

Zarabis murmured softly, folding his hands.

"This other world… seems interesting."

Mijarun gazed around the air here felt thick with magic.

"I don't know, Brother… but the energy here is incredibly powerful. Is this world full of magic?"

Zarabis nodded slightly.

"Yes, I suppose so. Lots of life, lots of mana. This world is alive."

Mijarun beamed brightly.

"If that's the case… it'll be fun, right?"

Zarabis only replied briefly:

"Hmm."

His smile was flat, but it was enough to make Mijarun hold back a laugh. He knew his brother a nihilistic being with frozen emotions was trying his hardest to seem normal.

Meeting in the Forest

They walked through the dense forest until they found a female elf lying unconscious on the ground.

Mijarun let out a quiet cheer:

"Brother! Look! Her ears are long like ours!"

Zarabis stared at her without expression. In his mind:

(Should I be happy too? Alright… let's do this, Zarabis!)

Suddenly, he reacted with an overly "dramatic" look:

"Whoa!? So this is what they call the Elf race!? Cool!"

Mijarun burst out laughing.

"Ah Brother, that expression… so stiff!"

Zarabis sat down with a blank face, pretending tears were streaming down.

"Mijarun… how do I become a good and normal being?"

Mijarun patted his chest enthusiastically.

"Leave it to me, of course! My brother is the King of Everything there's no way you can't learn to smile!"

Zarabis:

"Hmm."

Mijarun:

"Hmm?"

Zarabis:

"I'll try…"

In the Cave and a Strange Sleep That Night

After picking up the elf (for some reason, Zarabis carried her as casually as if she were a pillow), they found a cave and decided to rest.

Zarabis thought hard.

"Hmm… how do humans sleep?"

Mijarun answered innocently but mischievously:

"Just sleep next to the elf, Brother it'll be warm." 🙀

Zarabis stared blankly.

"Oh, good idea. Maybe I can be friends with her if I sleep close by." 👀

Mijarun just grinned widely as he prepared his sleeping spot.

In the middle of the night, the elf woke up and panicked immediately upon seeing herself being held by a strange "human." She grabbed her bow and was about to shoot, but when she saw Zarabis's calm face (sleeping like a sacred statue), she fell silent.

(I… can't kill someone with such a peaceful face…)

She lay back down, but moved a little farther away.

An Awkward Morning

When dawn broke, the elf was ready to leave. Zarabis stood behind her in a single silent step.

The elf instinctively shot an arrow but it shattered into dust the moment it neared him.

Zarabis's face remained blank.

Mijarun hurried forward.

"Don't misunderstand! We were lost and found you unconscious! My brother carried you here!"

The elf bowed her head in embarrassment.

"I'm sorry… I shot at your brother. Are you two… siblings?"

Zarabis looked at Mijarun, then activated their mental link.

"Mijarun, what does 'sibling' mean?"

Mijarun facepalmed.

"Brother… it means family!"

Zarabis understood at once.

"🧠Ah, I see. 🗣️I am her older brother."

The elf smiled.

"Oh, I see. May I ask your names?"

Zarabis almost replied:

"Dang-"

A quick kick from Mijarun stopped him.

"Use the mental link first, Brother!"

"Why? I just wanted to say 'Dang' it's a good word, isn't it?"

"Brother… your alias is Reiji. REI-JI."

"Oh. Right."

Zarabis then introduced himself with a flat tone:

"My name is Reiji."

Mijarun continued cheerfully, introducing himself too:

"I'm Mijarun, his younger sibling."

The elf introduced herself gently:

"My name is Aerel Ashia. Just call me Ashia."

About the Demon King

Mijarun asked:

"Why were you unconscious in the forest?"

Ashia answered softly:

"We were fighting… someone. The Demon King. He defeated my entire army."

Zarabis lowered his head slightly:

"The Demon King, huh? Interesting…"

Mijarun quickly covered his brother's mouth.

"Don't you dare, Brother! I know that look! You want to be his friend or fight him, don't you!?"

Zarabis only chuckled.

"If he's strong, he's probably bored. Like me. But… it doesn't matter. Sometimes, finding friends is more fun than ruling the world."

Ashia fell silent upon hearing Reiji's quiet yet deep laugh.

Invitation to the Mushaf Kingdom

Ashia finally said:

"Hey, Reiji, Mijarun! Would you like to come with me to the Mushaf Kingdom? It's a beautiful place full of adventures."

Mijarun jumped up excitedly.

"Of course! Right, Brother!?"

Zarabis raised his eyebrows blankly:

"Yes… of course."

Ashia let out a small laugh she found them strange but warm.

Meanwhile, the two nihilistic beings traded absurd jokes along the way.

From afar, two figures in black robes watched them from atop a crystal tower.

"Did you feel it too, Heimon?"

"Yes. The mana they emit… doesn't belong to this world."

"Report to Demon King Vaw. Two foreign beings have entered the Mushaf territory."

Their names: Fuklon and Heimon.

Two generals guarding the world, now staring toward the direction where two beings from the void Zarabis and Mijarun had arrived.
