--<<>>--
The Nomu charged like a raging bull.
One moment, it was standing several meters away.
The next moment, it vanished.
What?
Akira's eyes widened. He'd lost track of it. The creature had moved so fast that his eyes couldn't follow.
The Nomu reappeared directly in front of him, its massive fist aimed at his head.
Akira crossed both blades in front of his face at the last possible second.
CRACK
The impact was devastating. Even with both swords absorbing most of the force, the force traveled through the blades.
He flew backward like a missile, his body crashing into a concrete wall with bone-breaking force.
The wall shattered on impact, as Akira's body went straight through the first wall, then the second, finally stopping when he hit a steel support beam that bent from the collision.
"Cough!"
Blood sprayed from his mouth.
He slid down the bent beam and landed in the pile of debris.
"He's fast," Akira muttered, spitting more blood onto the ground. "The fastest thing I've ever faced."
As he pushed himself to his feet, his body was already knitting itself back together. Broken ribs mended. Internal bleeding stopped. Bruised organs repaired themselves.
I have to keep up, he thought, forcing himself to stand straight. If I can't match his speed, I'm dead.
Phoenix Drive
Blue flames erupted across his entire body, boosting his physical capabilities to their very limit.
The flames formed an aura around him, then condensed to form his wings again.
Let's end this.
Akira shot forward, his wings propelling him.
The Nomu saw him coming. Its blank eyes tracked the movement perfectly.
It rushed forward to counter with a strike of its own.
BOOM
The shockwave from their clash sent ripples through the air, kicking up dust and debris in all directions.
Blade Style: Cleave!
A massive red slash tore through the air, aimed at the Nomu's torso. The attack connected, cutting deep into the creature's chest.
But that was not enough.
The Nomu rushed in again.
Akira maneuvered mid-air, the fist missing his face by inches. He used the momentum to spin, bringing his second blade around in a horizontal slash that took off the Nomu's arm at the shoulder.
The limb hit the ground.
For a single moment, Akira thought he'd gained an advantage.
Unfortunately, it was not that easy.
Nomu's shoulder bubbled as if it had turned into liquid and expanded. Within three seconds, the arm was completely regenerated.
The same happened to the slash on its chest. It was already closing, flesh knitting back together.
Shit.
The Nomu's fist slammed into Akira's guard again, sending him skidding backward.
And so the loop began.
They reset.
Then they clashed again.
And again.
And again.
The fight became an exchange of violence and regeneration. Akira would land a cleave, then the Nomu would heal. The Nomu would land a hit, and would Akira's blue flames would heal him in seconds.
Neither could gain a permanent advantage.
Akira ducked under a haymaker and drove both blades into the Nomu's stomach.
He twisted the blades and flamed the monsters' insides, maximizing the damage.
The Nomu grabbed his head with both hands and slammed it's head into Akira's face.
Akira got a bit dizzy, but his flames kicked in just in time to fix him.
He ripped his blades out and jumped back.
The Nomu's stomach wound sealed itself in seconds.
This is insane, Akira thought, breathing harder now. Neither of us can die. Neither of us will stop.
They charged each other again.
Akira launched a vertical slash aimed at splitting the Nomu's skull.
But the Nomu redirected it using his arm.
The blade cut into its palm, but the creature didn't care. It held the sword firmly, preventing Akira from pulling it free.
Then it punched Akira in the stomach with its free hand.
The Nomu released the blade and followed up with a combination. Left hook to the ribs, right straight to the chest, knee to the stomach.
Each hit landed, causing heavy damage to Akira.
Akira's flames flared brighter, working overtime to keep him functional.
He managed to break away, creating distance, but he was breathing heavier now.
The Nomu? It was still in top shape.
It doesn't get tired.... this will be a problem.
He was fighting a machine with unlimited energy.
They clashed again in the center of the plaza, their speeds creating sonic booms with each exchange.
The pattern continued without end.
Five minutes passed.
Then ten.
Akira could feel his stamina running out. His blue flames were using up his energy reserves at an alarming rate. Each healing cycle took more out of him. Each clash required more effort to keep up with the Nomu's relentless assault.
But the Nomu kept going, fresh as it had been at the start.
I need to end this, Akira thought desperately. But how? How do I kill something that won't die?
The Nomu rushed at him again.
Akira made a split-second decision.
He planted his feet and held both swords in a specific grip, channeling red flames along both blades until they glowed white-hot.
"Blade Style: Mesh!" He yelled in frustration.
Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash. Slash.
An insane number of cuts were launched towards the Nomu in a fraction of a second.
But the Nomu walked straight into it.
Its body was shredded, but it continued walking. (Like the scene of Mahoraga walking through Sukuna's domain)
Cuts appeared across its torso, arms, legs, neck, and face. Blood sprayed in every direction. Chunks of flesh fell to the ground.
For a moment, the Nomu stopped and looked like it might collapse.
Then the wounds began to close, and it walked again.
However, Akira saw it.
A delay.
Tiny. Barely a second. But it was there.
The wounds weren't healing instantly anymore. The regeneration was still happening, but it was slower than it had been at the start of the fight.
There's a limit, Akira realized. It can heal, but not infinitely. And not instantly. I just have to overwhelm it.
But even as he thought it, exhaustion pulled at his limbs. His blue flames were dimming. He was running out of stamina.
The Nomu, meanwhile, kept walking.
I have to use it, Akira thought.
But then he looked around at his surroundings. At the plaza, where Nia was protecting Aizawa, Izuku, and Tsuyu. At the other students who were scattered throughout the facility.
If he used that here, the explosion would destroy everything in a massive radius.
His classmates would be in the blast zone.
He couldn't.
The Nomu, who was completely healed, rushed at Akira again as its fist connected with his blade. The force sent him flying backward.
He looked up just in time to see the Nomu charging again, fist pulled back for another devastating blow.
Akira tried to raise his guard, but his arms were too slow, too tired.
The punch connected.
His vision went white from the pain. He felt himself flying, his back slamming into something solid.
As he fell, his vision swimming, his gaze drifted upward.
The damaged ceiling.
The gaps in the structure form his previous cleaves.
The open sky beyond..... And then it clicked.
The sky!
If I can't use it here... then I need to take this fight somewhere else.
As Akira hit the ground, he forced his battered body to move. With the last of his strength, he gripped both swords and threw them at the charging Nomu.
It sidestepped, easily dodging both blades.
But that moment of distraction was all Akira needed.
His body erupted with red flames, fully covering his body.
His human form was covered, transforming into something else entirely.
A massive bird made of pure red flames took shape where Akira had been standing.
Akira flapped his wings once and shot forward.
BOOM
The sound barrier shattered.
The Nomu's head snapped up at the sound.
But the creature was too slow.
The fire-bird slammed into the Nomu like a meteor, its burning talons wrapping around the creature's torso. The Nomu's flesh sizzled and burned where the claws made contact, but the fire-bird didn't give it time to react.
Akira beat his wings, building momentum and altitude, aiming for the ceiling.
They shot upward together, the Nomu struggling in his grip.
Akira smashed through the already damaged ceiling. They burst out into the open air above the USJ facility, rising higher and higher into the sky.
The facility grew smaller beneath them.
One hundred meters.
Two hundred meters.
Three hundred meters.
The Nomu thrashed in his grip, its fists slamming into the fire-bird's body. But Akira's flame form simply reformed wherever it was damaged.
Finally, when they were high enough that the ground looked like a distant memory, Akira spun.
His body rotated rapidly, building up centrifugal force.
Then he released.
The Nomu was flung upward, shooting into the sky. It climbed higher and higher until it was just a small dot.
Akira hovered there for a moment, his flame-body burning bright against the sky.
Then his beak opened.
Inside the fire-bird's mouth, something began to form. Heat compressed into a single point. It started as a small ember, then grew into a burning sphere, then expanded into something that looked like a miniature sun itself.
The light was blinding. The heat radiating from it distorted the air for hundreds of meters in every direction.
SOLAR RADIANCE
The miniature sun shot forward.
It was like watching a falling star in reverse. A beam of solar fire shot upward into the sky.
The Nomu, still tumbling through the air from being thrown, had just enough time to look down.
The beam connected.
For a moment, nothing happened.
The beam struck the Nomu dead center.
Silence.
Complete silence as if the world itself was holding its breath.
Then.....
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
