Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Apex Predator of the Viridian Sky and the Golden Evolution

On a gorgeous autumn afternoon, the golden light filtering through the Viridian Forest felt unusually generous.

Gone was the stingy, fractured glare that barely pierced the thick summer canopy. Instead, warm, amber streams of sunlight poured down in broad beams, bathing the layered maple leaves, the still-vibrant pine needles, and the drying, sun-baked earth in a rich, glowing edge. The air smelled crisp—a refreshing blend of fresh pine resin, the rich sweetness of ripe wild berries, and the dry, earthy aroma of a forest preparing for the cooler months, completely banishing the damp gloom of the rainy season.

Robin leaned casually against a rough-barked tree trunk, squinting up at the sky.

His face had lost every trace of the softness he'd possessed when he first transmigrated into this world a year ago. His skin was deeply tanned by endless months of sun and wind, his jawline was sharply defined, and his eyes held the focused, razor-sharp intensity of an experienced survivalist. His combat clothes were still dusted with dirt, grass stains, and a torn elbow roughly stitched together with tough ivy fibers, but his posture radiated the coiled tension of a taut bow, ready to snap at a moment's notice.

His gaze tracked a lightning-fast brown-and-cream blur streaking across the blue expanse above.

Pidgeotto.

Its body was noticeably larger and bulkier than it had been months ago. Its plumage was darker, denser, and the pinkish crest feathers on its head had deepened into a vibrant, fiery hue that practically glowed in the autumn sun. Every single beat of its wings carried a steady, authoritative rhythm, generating micro-currents of air that easily rustled the treetops below.

It soared in wide, effortless circles across the airspace, its keen eagle-like eyes scanning the ground below like a patient, terrifying ruler patrolling its sovereign domain.

For nearly a year—roughly three hundred grueling days and nights—they had scoured, mapped, and conquered virtually every square inch of the outer perimeter of this massive forest.

From their humble beginnings of fleeing in sheer panic from aggressive swarms of Beedrill, to successfully breaking through ambushes by territorial Raticate packs, up to going toe-to-toe with rampaging Ursaring—every single battle had forged both trainer and Pokémon into absolute weapons. Their scars had become medals of honor, and sheer exhaustion had transformed into the bedrock of their explosive strength.

They knew this territory better than the back of their hands. They could tell the subtle difference between the murmurs of various streams across different seasons, remember exactly which berry bushes yielded the sweetest harvest, and predict the exact migration patterns of local Pokémon.

"We've practically cleared the map," Robin murmured, his voice slightly raspy from prolonged focus.

He lowered his gaze from the clouds and looked down at his own open palm. His fingertips were covered in thick, hardened calluses, and the edges of his hands bore the faint, pale scars of hard labor and wilderness scrapes.

"There's only one major roadblock left in the outer ring."

High above, Pidgeotto seemed to pick up on his train of thought.

It folded its wings halfway and plummeted downward like a feathered ballistic missile, generating a sudden gust of wind pressure that whipped the fallen leaves on the ground into a swirling vortex. With a gentle flap of its wings, it landed smoothly on a large boulder beside Robin, holding its head high. A fierce, unmistakable gleam of battle-lust burned in its sharp eyes.

At its feet lay a scattering of shed feathers from various rival bird Pokémon—silent trophies of the aerial skirmishes it had won earlier that morning.

"Feeling good, buddy?" Robin asked, stepping forward and giving the coarse, powerful feathers on Pidgeotto's neck a reassuring scratch.

The tactile feedback under his fingers practically thrummed with raw, overflowing vitality. Pidgeotto turned its head, playfully nudging Robin's arm with its razor-sharp beak while letting out a short, assertive beep-beep!

Its condition was pristine—so energetic it was practically vibrating. The sheer amount of pent-up battle energy coursing through its veins was begging for a proper outlet.

Robin nodded, his eyes shifting toward a dense, shadowy section of the forest ahead.

This was one of the infamous "forbidden zones" of the outer region, rumored to be the absolute hunting ground of the most terrifying brute in the ecosystem—a monster most outer-ring Pokémon wouldn't dare approach.

"Take fifteen minutes to stretch and prep," Robin said, clapping Pidgeotto firmly on the back. "Then we go say hello to the neighborhood boss."

Their target: a massive Ursaring.

Not just any Ursaring, but the undisputed apex predator of the regional bear population. It stood nearly three meters tall—dwarfing its relatives—with a dark, mud-colored body, a chest marking so intensely yellow it bordered on pitch black, and a reputation for shattering boulders with a single swipe of its claws.

The moment Robin and Pidgeotto crossed the invisible threshold into the Ursaring's territory, a suffocating aura of aggression and musky funk flooded the air. Shattered tree trunks and deep, jagged claw marks gouged into the earth silently broadcasted the owner's unyielding supremacy.

There were no formal introductions.

"ROAR—!"

A concussive shockwave of sound, like an unexpected bolt of thunder, blasted the remaining leaves off the nearby branches. A mountain of brown fur surged out from the shadows of the tree line, its crimson eyes locked instantly onto the intruders with unadulterated murderous intent.

Robin flicked his wrist mentally, calling up the system scanner:

Target: Ursaring

Level: 42

Potential: Green

Key Moves: Hyper Beam, Hammer Arm, Courage

System Note: Pidgeotto is currently 5 levels below it. This is going to be a spicy matchup, host.

"Don't let it close the distance! Gale, blow it off balance!" Robin shouted.

Pidgeotto's wings blurred as it whipped up a violent whirlwind, hurling a storm of sand, gravel, and heavy twigs straight into Ursaring's face.

With an impatient, thunderous swipe of its massive forepaw, the Ursaring shattered the hurricane with pure physical pressure alone, its crimson eyes narrowing as it slammed all four paws into the ground and charged forward like a runaway freight train.

"Quick Attack! Side-step and break formation!"

Pidgeotto vanished in a flash of white light, narrowly dodging as Ursaring's claws smashed a crater into the dirt where it had stood a microsecond prior.

"Hit it with a concentrated Air Slash right in the eyes!"

A dense, razor-sharp crescent of compressed air lashed forward like an invisible whip. Ursaring merely roared, crossing its massive, heavily armored arms across its face. The air blade struck its thick fur, leaving nothing more than a faint white scratch before shattering into nothingness. Its defensive stats were completely absurd!

Enraged by the stinging attack, Ursaring reared back on its hind legs, its red eyes glowing like coals as it opened its cavernous maw. A terrifying, superheated wave of raw energy began to pool in its throat, distorting the surrounding air with shimmering heat waves.

It's charging Hyper Beam!

"Don't let it fire! Full power, max-velocity Quick Attack straight to the jaw!" Robin yelled, his pupils contracting to pinpricks.

It was a massive, high-stakes gamble. Could Pidgeotto cross the distance and disrupt the charging animation before the blast radius wiped them out?

Pidgeotto didn't hesitate. Its entire body ignited in a dazzling, incandescent glow of pure kinetic energy, rocketing forward like a supersonic white meteor and driving its beak and chest directly into Ursaring's lower jaw with bone-shattering force!

BANG!

A concussive shockwave echoed through the clearing. Ursaring's massive head snapped violently backward from the impact. Because the charging sequence was forcefully interrupted at the absolute last microsecond, the volatile Hyper Beam lost containment, exploding violently inside its own mouth!

BOOM!

The catastrophic energy backlash sent the giant bear staggering backward, its chest charred black and smoke pouring from its jaws as it roared in agonizing pain.

However, Pidgeotto didn't escape unscathed. The violent shockwave blew it backward like a ragdoll, sending it tumbling through the air in an uncontrolled tailspin before it finally crashed into the dirt. Its left wing was bent at an ugly, unnatural angle, its feathers were torn to shreds, and its breathing was ragged and shallow.

Mutual devastation!

Shaking off the dizziness and burning agony, Ursaring's mind was completely swallowed by primal, unadulterated rage. Abandoning ranged tactics entirely, it relied on its terrifying physical might to trample toward the grounded Pidgeotto, raising a massive, wind-whipping paw to smash the annoying bird into paste.

Robin's heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped jackhammer.

He watched Pidgeotto desperately try to push itself up, saw the stubborn, unquenchable fire blazing in its eyes, and noticed the chaotic, golden-white aura leaking uncontrollably from its body as its limits finally snapped.

Now!

"PIDGEOTTO—!" Robin screamed at the top of his lungs, pouring every ounce of faith and adrenaline he had into the cry.

It was as if a massive structural chain deep within the universe had finally shattered. The power that had spent a year building to a boiling point broke through its final barrier!

"PIDGE—OH—OOOOOH!"

Pidgeotto let out a majestic, sky-splitting screech—a cry entirely different from anything it had ever produced before. It was higher, ringing with royal authority, and dripping with an entirely new tier of sovereign power.

A blinding, supernova-like flash of white light erupted from its core!

This wasn't the artificial glow of an evolutionary stone; it was the raw, breathtaking light of natural biological transcendence. The intense light instantly swallowed Pidgeotto whole, expanding outward in a blinding aura.

Robin instinctively threw an arm over his eyes to shield them from the glare, his breath catching in his throat. Inside the glowing sphere, a massive silhouette rapidly morphed, elongating, filling out, and radiating terrifying new contours.

As the blinding light receded like a rushing tide, a magnificent, kingly entity stood in the clearing, leaving both Robin and the stunned Ursaring completely awe-struck.

It was several times larger than a Pidgeotto. Its plumage had shifted into a stunning, deep auburn and gold color palette. The tuft on its head was no longer a simple pink crest, but a long, flamboyant, royal-red plume that billowed grandly in the breeze like a monarch's crown. Its tail feathers had lengthened into sleek, aerodynamic arrowheads.

Its eyes were fiercely sharp, radiating an arrogant, untouchable majesty that looked down upon the forest like a true king of the skies.

Pidgeot!

It spread its massive wings wide. Even without using an active move, the sheer wingspan generated a powerful gale that instantly blew away all the lingering dust and debris in the clearing.

Feeling a sudden, bone-deep terror radiating from the newly evolved apex predator, Ursaring let out a low, pathetic whimper of pure survival instinct. Instead of pressing its attack, the giant bear took a hesitant step back... then another.

Pidgeot calmly surveyed the retreating bear with cool, unbothered detachment, then turned its head to cast a reassuring glance down at Robin.

The next instant, its wings flickered.

Without uttering a single attack command, Pidgeot tapped into its newly unlocked physiological limits, transforming into a blurry, teleport-like phantom that vanished entirely from human sight!

Its speed had cleanly shattered the perceptual barrier of the naked eye.

Ursaring whipped its head around in sheer panic, but it was already too late. The massive shadow fell over it, accompanied by two cold, calculating eyes. Pidgeot's newly strengthened wings sliced downward through the air like twin steel axes, driven by hypersonic momentum!

WHAM—!

With a dull, earth-shaking thud, the three-meter-tall Ursaring—a beast strong enough to shatter boulders—was hit like it had stepped in front of a runaway bullet train. It was launched backward through the air, snapping two thick, bowl-sized pine trees in half before crashing heavily into the dirt and passing out cold.

One-hit KO!

A single physical strike, executed with god-tier speed and overwhelming momentum, had utterly obliterated a mini-boss that previously required a tactical, life-or-death struggle.

Pidgeot landed gracefully on the sunlit grass, its royal-red head feathers gleaming like molten gold in the autumn light. It turned back toward Robin and let out a triumphant, ringing battle cry that echoed across the entire valley.

"PIDGE—OT—!"

Name: Pidgeot

Level: 40

Talent: Purple

Key Traits: Large Beaks, Gale Force

Signature Moves: Brave Bird, Hyper Beam, Air Slash, Extreme Speed

(As the system notification chimed, Robin mentally applied a banked Talent Scroll to lock in its new parameters.)

That singular cry officially proclaimed the total conquest of the Viridian Forest's outer perimeter. A brand-new era had begun.

And with evolution came a world-shaking change—literally. The biggest shift was waiting in the sky.

When Robin tentatively, clumsily climbed onto Pidgeot's broad, sturdy back for the very first time, gripping the sleek, elegant feathers around its neck for dear life, an intoxicating sensation washed over him.

"Let's go."

At his command, Pidgeot pumped its powerful legs and launched itself straight upward into the blue.

WHOOSH—!

A sudden, deafening roar of rushing wind filled his ears, accompanied by an exhilarating rush of weightlessness. The forest canopy below rapidly shrank, turning from towering green giants into a mossy green carpet, while the rugged mountain ridges looked like tiny plastic models set up in a sandbox.

They smashed right through the atmospheric barrier of the tree line and broke out into the boundless, open sky!

The autumn sun beat down unobstructed, and fluffy white clouds drifted past as if they were close enough to touch. The wind howled wildly around them, but it no longer felt like an obstacle—it felt like an enthusiastic companion urging them to climb higher, faster, further.

Looking down, the vast Viridian Forest stretched out beneath them like a sprawling emerald ocean, with winding rivers cutting silver ribbons across the landscape. The sheer scale of the world was staggering, completely washing away every ounce of pressure, claustrophobia, and survival anxiety that had bottled up inside Robin's chest over the past year.

The sky was no longer just an inaccessible backdrop to admire from the dirt.

It was their domain. Their personal battlefield.

And as the undisputed rulers of this infinite blue expanse, Robin and Pidgeot were finally ready to take on the world.
