Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Home Repair, System Bounties, and Architectural Chaos

Leaving the outer borders of the Viridian Forest in the crisp dawn light, Robin and his newly evolved Pidgeotto stood at the boundary line, taking a moment to look back at the massive, lush green ocean of trees that had served as their brutal training camp for the past month.

The last thirty days had transformed Pidgey into a magnificent Pidgeotto, while pushing Robin from a clueless, panicked newbie into a confident, tactical trainer.

After a half-day trek down the familiar woodland trail, they finally arrived back at their rustic wooden homestead. Although Robin had scrubbed the interior clean a month ago, a month of heavy training and living primarily out in the wild meant the exterior had taken a beating. With the rainy season looming, cleaning was no longer enough—it was time for a full-scale architectural overhaul.

From the outside, the cabin looked a bit tragic: warped roof planks, peeling exterior paint, and window frames missing glass entirely.

The repair operation began with a thorough structural inspection. Pidgeotto immediately put his newly evolved physical traits to work: he glided effortlessly onto the roof, tapping every single shingle with his sharp beak to test its structural integrity; he squeezed into tight attic spaces inaccessible to human frames to check for termite damage; and he even used precise, micro-controlled Air Slashes to trim away rotting wooden slats without splintering the solid beams.

By evening, Robin was sitting at his newly scrubbed desk, drafting a master checklist: replace roof planks, patch wall cracks, reinforce floorboards, fix window frames, and apply a fresh coat of exterior paint. It was a massive undertaking for a single twelve-year-old kid.

"Tomorrow morning, we're heading into the nearest town to pick up building supplies," Robin announced, stretching his arms.

"I hate to rain on your parade, landlord," the system chimed in dryly inside his head, "but between training your Pidgeotto and foraging for berries all month, exactly how much disposable income do you think you have?"

Robin froze, a piece of chalk dangling from his fingers. "Uh... well, about that..."

"Exactly. Zero. And more importantly, if you refuse to awaken your Aura Power and keep ignoring your daily system tasks, how do you expect to make a legendary name for yourself in this world?"

Robin cleared his throat defensively. "Look, it's about self-reliance, okay? Relying entirely on System Brother all the time isn't true character growth!"

The system went dead silent for a moment, clearly processing the sheer audacity of his logic. "Just collect your pending quest rewards and stop talking. Looking at your activity log gives me a digital migraine."

Grinning triumphantly, Robin pulled up the task menu on his holographic interface. "Oh man, System Brother, you're a genius! There's even a 'Claim All' button!"

"Congratulations, host! You have received 8,888 Alliance Coins."

"Congratulations, host! You have earned 20 achievement points."

"Congratulations, host! You have unlocked a brand-new feature: The System Store."

Curious, Robin tapped open his inventory and system wallet. His eyes nearly popped out of his head. His balance now sat at 1,965,738 Alliance Coins, accompanied by an absurd arsenal of high-tier items: Ultra Balls, Luxury Balls, Master Ball Fragments (21 out of 100), max-grade healing sprays, and—most crucially—a Riolu Capture Ticket (will automatically trigger once the host's Aura awakens).

"Let's see what this new store feature is about," Robin mumbled, rubbing his hands together. He navigated to the legendary section and tapped on a sparkling item. "Holy cow... a Rayquaza Pokémon Egg? Let's check the price tag..."

He started counting zeros: ten, a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand, one million, ten million... "8,708,888 points."

Robin stared at his pathetic stockpile of just over twenty points, let out a hollow laugh, and slammed the shop closed. "Yeah, okay, total scam. Moving on."

"Host," the system noted helpfully, "you also have daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly login bonuses available."

"Wait! Why didn't you tell me that a month ago?! I just missed out on like a hundred million imaginary dollars!" Robin gasped.

"Because you never check your notifications. Ding, offline."

The next morning, it took a two-hour hike to reach the nearest rural town. Navigating the local hardware and building materials market with strict budgetary caution, Robin carefully selected affordable yet durable roofing tiles and weather-resistant paint.

"These tiles are lightweight, sturdy, and won't break the bank," Robin told Pidgeotto, holding up a sample shingle.

Pidgeotto tapped it once with his claw, listening closely to the resonance of the ceramic—a clever trick he had picked up from tapping forest trees to check for internal rot. Chirp! He gave it an approving nod.

Back at the cabin, the renovation officially began. The roof was priority number one, given the incoming rain clouds gathering on the horizon. While Robin hauled supplies up an improvised ladder, Pidgeotto acted as an airborne crane, using his powerful talons to lift heavy bundles of wood and tiles with effortless grace.

Using his Air Slash with surgical precision, Pidgeotto severed rusted old nails and blew away decades of accumulated dust and pine needles.

Around midday, a minor workplace safety incident nearly occurred. While stepping across the roof, Robin planted his foot on a rotten, hidden plank, slipping backward toward the edge of the eaves!

"Whoa—ahhh!" Robin yelped, sliding down the slope.

In a fraction of a second, Pidgeotto moved like a lightning bolt. Rejecting the use of Extreme Speed—which would have launched Robin clear off the roof like a cannonball—Pidgeotto banked hard, flapped his massive wings to brake, and grabbed the collar of Robin's shirt with his strong talons, hauling him safely back to the center ridge.

Robin collapsed against the chimney, panting heavily and clutching his racing heart. "Remind me to buy a safety harness. Thank you, buddy."

Pidgeotto let out a sharp, scolding squawk that roughly translated to, "Watch your footing, you absolute idiot!"

Working with renewed caution, they finished the roof by sunset. The fresh, dark brown tiles gleamed under the warm orange light of the sinking sun, blending seamlessly with the surrounding forest.

The next few days were dedicated to wall repairs and interior reinforcement. Robin handled the structural beams while Pidgeotto mastered the art of interior styling: using micro-Air Slashes to trim wall filler, holding miniature paint rollers in his talons to coat hard-to-reach ceiling corners, and even checking floorboards for hollow gaps using his acoustic tapping method.

While replacing a rotted floor plank in the master bedroom, they uncovered a hidden floor compartment containing a rusted iron box. Inside were old photographs of the cabin's original owner alongside sketches of their partner Pokémon—a touching reminder of the legacy they were restoring.

By the end of the week, the transformation was complete. The cabin featured crisp white exterior walls, dark brown tiled roofing, spotless glass windows, and a freshly cleared stone walkway leading up to the front porch.

Pidgeotto soared into the air, executing three triumphant barrel rolls before letting out a ringing, majestic cry that echoed across the valley—announcing to the entire Viridian Forest that their home was officially reborn.
