Chapter 5 - 4. Quirk Assessment: Part 1

(3rd PoV)

"Hm~"

Kyoya hummed, entering UA High School and searching for his class.

He has been placed in 1-A.

And just as he opened the door, the class started murmuring.

"He was crazy! Using kunai and fire and stuff! He placed first!"

Well, it seems people already recognise him.

"Hey—"

Just as he was about to greet one of the classmates, Glasses Guy, a blonde delinquent attempted to grab his collar.

He activated Sharingan on instinct, grabbed his arm, and casually judo throw'ed him on the ground.

"What were you doing?"

"Hey Extra! You got first place huh!? I challenge you!"

"You already lost."

"What did you say!? I WILL KILL YOU!"

Kyoya sighed. Just the first day and he already encounter a delinquent.

So he used Sharingan and put him into a genjutsu and went to his seat.

The delinquent, Bakugo, started threatening the ceiling fan 'Extra', 'I will blow you to bits' and 'I WILL KILL YOU!', looking crazier than he is.

Kyoya found his seat.

Last row, next to the window.

A perfect place to get assassinated from.

Let's keep it close.

...Let's open it. Afterall, dodging just a bullet is much better than dodging a bullet AND shards of glass.

He sat down on his seat and started fiddling with his phone.

With the help of Sharingan, he has already memorized the entire high school syllabus, and human anatomy.

Afterall, to use genjutsu, he has to send his energy to people's nervous system and manipulate it. So he has to know his stuff.

Just as he opened Quirktube, the Glasses Guy appeared before him.

"Excuse me, I am Tenya Ida."

"I am Sato Kyoya!"

"Using your Quirk without Licence or faculty permission is restricted. Please release Bakugo from—"

"Are you guys done?"

The homeroom teacher with shabby appearance appeared, and Bakugo suddenly stopped being in the Genjutsu.

'Huh? Oh, he is Eraserhead. It makes sense that he got rid of my genjutsu.'

"Wha—! What did you do! Extra!"

Bakugo raged and was about to go after Kyoya, but Aizawa restrained him.

'A bunch of brats...'

"Change into your gym clothes and follow me to the ground, now. We will have a test of Quirks."

"What!? No entrance ceremony!?"

"No time to waste time on that stuff if you want to become Heroes. UA is known for its 'freestyle' education system. And that applies to us teachers as well.

Ah. I am your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Pleased to meet you."

Aizawa looked and sounded like he had no energy in him. He seemed like he was just so done with life.

Once everyone reached the ground after changing, he started explaining the Quirk assessment.

"Soft ball throwing, Standing long jump, 50-meter dash, Endurance Running, Grip Strength, Side-to-side Stepping, Upper Body Training, Seated Toe Touch, you did all these in your middle school, right?

Your standard 'No Quirks Allowed' Gym tests.

This country still insists on prohobiting quirks while calculating averages of those records. It's not rational. Department of Education is just procrastinating.

Sato, how far could you throw in middle school?"

"95 meters."

Aizawa raised an eyebrow at that. It's more than the world record without Quirk.

"Now do it with your Quirk. Do whatever you want, just don't leave this circle."

Kyoya nodded and got the soft-ball in his hand.

While Sharingan is certainly a very powerful Quirk, only a powerful body will be able to use it to its fullest.

That's why he has trained to the limit since young.

Even though he has tried to mould chakra, he hasn't been successful in all these years, and since Sharingan works just fine, he guessed that he just doesn't have chakra.

Maybe he does have it? But what does combining Physical and Mental Energy mean anyway?

Putting that aside, Sharingan itself will not do much in the standard gym tests.

So he is not really expecting to top this time.

Still, he activated Sharingan, which will allow him to perceive his movements easily, and decide at which moment and angle he has to release the ball.

'Alright... For maximum distance, 45°.'

He threw the soft-ball with all his might, with the best momentum he could give it.

"100.2m."

Kyoya was not very surprised with this result. Well, strength isn't his main thing aside from Sharingan. It's speed.

"It's important for us to know our limits. That's the first rational step to figure out what kind of Hero you want to become."

Everyone got excited.

"Whoa! This is awesome! So we can use our Quirks for real!? Man, the Hero course is great!"

Aizawa muttered, "... Awesome you say? You are hoping to become Heroes after three years here, and you think it will be all fun and games?"

Aizawa stared at everyone.

"Right. The one with the lowest score across all events will be judged hopeless... and will be Expelled."

At that, Midoriya gulped.
