Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Sacred Union: Heir of the Khan Clan

Within the chilling depths of the ancient cavern, a heavy silence reigned. King Xiao Leo's remnant soul slowly raised a hand—a limb that once commanded legions, now flickering like a dying candle. On the other side of the cave wall, atop a stone dais, lay a girl in a slumber that had lasted centuries. Her face was as flawless as carved marble, untouched by the passage of time. This was Xiao Er, the one who had waited eons for this fated moment.

Alya, standing nearby, felt a mix of dread and hope. She looked at the translucent spirit and whispered, "Great King, what must I do to save Alpha? I will pay any price."

King Xiao Leo's voice echoed like the tolling of an ancient bell. "You need not do much, child. Look toward that tree." He gestured to a corner where a glowing sapling stood. "Bring me the fruit that grows there."

Without hesitation, Alya approached the tree. The fruit was a deep, pulsating crimson, radiating an unnatural warmth. As she plucked it, King Xiao Leo produced a small phial containing 'Heavenly Spirit Water.' He washed the fruit with meticulous care before turning his gaze back to Alya.

"Now, take the unconscious Alpha and lay him beside Xiao Er," he commanded.

Alya's heart hammered against her ribs, but she knew Alpha's life hung by a thread. She supported his weight and carefully laid him next to the sleeping girl. As she stepped out of the chamber, King Xiao Leo tapped the fruit with a ghostly finger.

BOOM!

A soft explosion followed, and the fruit dissolved into a golden mist that flooded the room. Watching from behind the stone threshold, Alya felt a sharp sting in her chest—not of physical pain, but of the bitter jealousy that comes from seeing one's beloved so close to another. Yet, she remained silent, bound by necessity.

King Xiao Leo sealed the heavy stone door. He looked at Alya and sighed deeply. "I suspect you know what is transpiring within. That was a 'Charm Fruit.' The water I used has begun to melt the 'Ice Crystal' within Xiao Er. Their energies must now intertwine to save Alpha's life. Forgive me... I have robbed you of your right to your beloved."

Alya closed her eyes, a single tear escaping her lashes. "If this is the only path for him to live, then I accept it. His life is far more precious than my claim over him."

The Four-Month Vigil

Time seemed to freeze outside the cave. One day turned into two, and soon three months had passed. A sweet, intoxicating aura still wafted from the cracks in the door—the potent effect of the Charm Fruit refused to fade.

By the end of the fourth month, the chaotic energy inside finally began to settle into a calm rhythm.

Inside, Alpha slowly pried his eyes open. His body felt lighter, yet infused with a terrifying power he had never known. He looked to his side—Xiao Er was also regaining consciousness. Their eyes met, and for a long moment, there was a deafening silence. Alpha scrambled to gather his robes, while Xiao Er wrapped herself in a silk shroud, her expression a turbulent mix of shame and fury.

They glared at each other, both convinced the other was the architect of this "conspiracy."

Suddenly, the stone door groaned open, admitting the harsh light of day. Alya stood there, her eyes searching frantically. The moment Alpha stepped out, she threw herself into his arms, sobbing. "You're okay! You're actually alive!"

At the same time, Xiao Er rushed toward King Xiao Leo's remnant soul. "Grandfather! Are you alright? I thought... I thought I had lost you forever."

The King placed a hand on her head, but it passed through her like smoke. "Child, I am no longer among the living. This is but a lingering fragment of my memories."

Xiao Er's face fell, but the King continued sternly, "You understand what has happened, don't you? Your 'Yin' energy and his 'Yang' essence have merged to complete one another."

Xiao Er whirled around to glare at Alpha, her eyes burning with rage. "How dare he!"

"Stop!" King Xiao Leo commanded. "It was not his fault. It was my doing. If you seek to punish someone, punish me. But remember—he saved your life just as much as you saved his."

The Revelation

Alya took Alpha's hand, checking his pulse. "How do you feel now?"

Alpha clenched his fist, and a faint golden aura rippled through the air. "Alya, it feels as if lightning is coursing through my veins. My body has been refined as if in a 'Heavenly Cauldron.' I have... I have broken through to the first level of the Marrow Transformation Realm!"

Alya gasped. "Such a massive leap? That should be impossible!"

King Xiao Leo stepped forward. "Now that the bond of husband and wife has been forged in essence, you must take responsibility for Xiao Er. It is the decree of our lineage."

Alpha looked at Alya, startled. Alya took a deep breath and squeezed his hand. "Alpha, Xiao Er is the reason you are standing here. If the Grandfather says this is the way, then you must honor it."

Xiao Er cried out, "Grandfather! Must I truly stay with this stranger? I don't even know him!"

"Then ask him his name," the King replied with a knowing smile.

Xiao Er turned to Alpha, her voice sharp. "What is your name?"

"Alpha Khan," he replied firmly.

"KHAN?!" Xiao Er froze. She turned to her grandfather in shock. "But the Khan Clan was annihilated thousands of years ago! Not a single soul was left!"

Alpha and Alya stood by, unable to hear this part of the conversation, for the King and Xiao Er were speaking through Telepathy.

King Xiao Leo spoke softly in her mind. "Xiao Er, he is not of this world. He comes from across the void. And do you remember? Thousands of years ago, the prince your father betrothed you to... he was of the Khan bloodline."

Xiao Er's eyes widened in realization. "So... is it him? The one for whom I was sealed in this cave for centuries?"

King Xiao Leo simply gave a faint, fading smile as his image began to dissolve into the mist.
