Chapter 7 - Pollen Grains

Maybe this beast was afraid of light. This was far different from the aspect that it used night. No, it didn't have a choice other than night.

The fact that it could affect the human body to increase its strength, there was only one way it was possible, injection of some outside factor. He had seen those red streaks. They were caused by some kind of infection.

He already had an inclination of what it was. If it was true then it could explain more than he wanted to know.

His assumption was that it's some kind of pollen grain released by the flower itself. A pollen which had spread as far as it could go by wind or anything.

If it was really true then it fulfilled the injection of an outer substance which could affect the human body. It also made sense of it having this absurd range.

This was the type of pollen which acted as a parasite and got activated when the person completely left the shade of light and once activated it controlled its host to approach the flower no matter what.

It also increased the strength of the host to complete the task no matter what. It wasn't hard given the fact that the host body might contain a lot of these pollens.

'Also there is no doubt that I have these pollens inside my body too.'

Kael didn't know when these pollens were released or maybe they were still present in the air right now. No matter which situation it was, he was occupying a body which was definitely affected by them.

Kael shook his head. Everyone was basically already dead. No matter where they went, in the absence of all forms of light the pollen would definitely activate. Then they would come back here. 'Truly an abomination of horror.'

Now how could he kill this abomination...

...

Morning came and Kael was still walking in the forest while going towards the village . He wasn't far from the river and the mountain was still visible from his location so he wouldn't get lost.

The most important fact was that he did find the flaming grass but there was very little amount. Although, it was still sixtystalks so even if he went back now, the villagers wouldn't feel that he wasted anything.

He increased his speed to reach the village early before the night fell.

...

When he arrived at the village the two old men who were standing near the entrance from yesterday were surprised seeing him. "You found the stalks."

Kael nodded. "Only sixty."

"Still better than nothing." One of the old men spoke and continued. "You will go back again?"

Kael shook his head. "I will spend this night here but tomorrow I will leave again." He looked at them calmly. "I have found a way to end this monster."

He didn't know if they would believe him or not but after thoroughly thinking he had come to only one conclusion and no matter what, he would see through it, with or without them. In the end the one who was taking the risk was him.

He now fully understood what an Extreme trial really was. You had not much options. You died trying or you died waiting. In the end that was all you could do.

The thing he was betting his life on was one and only one factor. He was occupying this body rather than being himself...

"There were many who have said those words only to fail. What makes you think that you can end this monster who is far tougher to kill than before?" The village chief spoke while shaking his head along with the old men. None of them believed it was possible. After going through so many failures they had already lost the hope to do so.

Kael sighed and spoke while shaking his head. He never wanted to tell the plan anyway. "Don't worry, I am not trying to convince you guys, nor do I need any kind of help from you guys."

He walked towards them and took out forty stalks of flaming grass and placed them in front of the village chief and kept the twenty for himself. He needed them for what he wanted to do.

The village chief and both of the old men frowned listening. In the end the village chief didn't speak anything and took the stalks and left.

Both of the old men on the other hand sat down at the entrance while creating the torch as the night was about to fall.

"Alright young man tell us what's on your mind." Although they didn't believe much they still wanted to know.

Kael sat beside them. He didn't want to tell the real way. What if they strongly refuted it and didn't let him do what he wanted to do? "How about coming with me tomorrow to see it? You guys sit here anyway why not have a simple walk with me?"

He didn't know what kind of world this was, illusion or just a past. None of it mattered. He would make everyone respect the real owner of this body and what better way would there be than to have some witnesses.

The old men looked at him before looking at each other and nodded. "Alright, it's been a while since we visited that abomination anyway. Let's visit it one more time by our own will..."

The night fell and passed without any incidents. In the morning all three of them left towards the cave after mentioning about it to the village.

To Kael's surprise, the village chief joined too.

"Going towards that cave makes my heart heavy. It is as if I was going to see the place of my death..." The village chief spoke while sighing.

"Sigh... why this calamity struck us..."

Kael listened to them talking while thinking through everything one last time. No matter what happened it was his last day in this world or maybe even in his life.

He really had to give it to himself. Once he had decided he wasn't feeling any kind of fear or reluctance.
