Chapter 92 - chapter 30

BOOK THREE: THE FALL OF THE FIRST KINGDOM

Chapter 30: The Memory Beneath the World

The Archives were collapsing.

Books exploded into thousands of glowing pages.

Crystal towers cracked.

The black tree split completely in half.

And beneath it...

The darkness continued rising.

Riva held tightly to the silver key.

"We need to get out!"

"There is no exit!" Eva shouted.

The doors had vanished.

The walls were disappearing.

Even the floor beneath their feet was beginning to crumble.

---

The Last Unwriter looked toward the darkness.

His face had lost all color.

"It's awake."

Riva turned toward him.

"What is it?"

He shook his head.

"I don't know."

"But I remember the feeling."

"Every time a world disappeared..."

"It was there."

---

Eryon stood frozen.

The corrupted Flame of Beginning was gone.

His hands trembled.

"I spent centuries protecting it."

"I thought I understood it."

The First Guardian looked at him.

"You never did."

Eryon lowered his head.

"No."

"I didn't."

---

A massive crack opened beneath the black tree.

Something began climbing through.

First...

A hand.

Then an arm.

Then a shoulder.

It wasn't made of flesh.

It was made of countless fragments of memories.

Faces appeared across its body.

People.

Children.

Kings.

Warriors.

Entire civilizations.

All of them were screaming silently.

---

Aarvi covered her mouth.

"What is that?"

Eva stared in horror.

"It's made from memories."

The First Guardian whispered:

"Forgotten memories."

---

The creature slowly raised its head.

It had no face.

Only thousands of eyes.

Each eye showed a different world.

A different story.

A different ending.

Then it spoke.

"I remember everything you abandoned."

The sound shook the Archives.

---

Riva stepped forward.

"What do you want?"

The creature turned toward her.

"Nothing."

Its voice was strangely calm.

"I only want what was taken from me."

"What was taken?"

The creature answered:

"My beginning."

---

The silver key suddenly became burning hot.

Riva cried out and almost dropped it.

The two Flames inside it began reacting.

Hope.

Memory.

They merged.

A vision appeared above the key.

Riva saw the beginning of the world.

There was no Aurelia.

No White Tree.

No Gates.

Only darkness.

Then...

A tiny spark appeared.

Aster.

But he wasn't alone.

Beside him stood another child.

A girl.

Her hair was black.

Her eyes were silver.

She held the first flame.

---

Riva whispered,

"Who is she?"

The First Guardian looked shocked.

"No..."

Eryon stepped closer.

"That's impossible."

Caelan stared at the vision.

"I've never seen her."

The creature beneath the Archives laughed.

"Because they erased her."

---

The vision continued.

The girl gave the first spark to Aster.

Aster created the first Gate.

The girl created the first Promise.

Together...

They built the foundation of every world.

But then something happened.

Aster made a choice.

The girl disagreed.

Their powers separated.

The girl disappeared.

And every memory of her was erased.

---

Riva looked at the creature.

"You..."

"You're her?"

The creature slowly nodded.

"I was the first Keeper."

Everyone froze.

The First Guardian whispered:

"Her name..."

He struggled to remember.

Nothing came.

Then Eryon spoke.

"Elara."

---

The creature's thousands of eyes closed.

For a moment...

It looked almost human.

"Yes."

"I was Elara."

"The First Keeper."

"The one who created the Promise."

Riva stared at her.

"Why did they erase you?"

Elara looked toward the First Guardian.

He lowered his head.

"Because..."

"...I asked them to."

Everyone turned toward him.

---

The First Guardian's voice trembled.

"Elara believed the Gates should belong to everyone."

"But Aster believed someone had to control them."

"They argued."

"The First Promise divided."

"And when Elara tried to destroy the Gates..."

"We stopped her."

---

Elara's voice became colder.

"They didn't stop me."

"They erased me."

"Every memory."

"Every record."

"Every person who knew my name."

"I became the thing beneath the world."

The darkness surrounding her expanded.

"And when you erase something completely..."

"It doesn't disappear."

"It becomes hungry."

---

Riva finally understood.

"The Unwriting..."

Elara nodded.

"Was born from me."

The Last Unwriter stepped forward.

"And I was one of your first victims."

"Yes."

---

The Archives shook again.

Elara looked toward the silver key.

"You carry the two Flames."

"Hope."

"Memory."

"Give them to me."

Riva tightened her grip.

"No."

Elara's thousands of eyes opened.

"Then you will watch every world disappear."

---

Lucien raised his sword.

"We're not giving you anything."

Elara smiled.

"You still believe strength can solve this."

The floor beneath Lucien shattered.

He fell.

"Lucien!"

Riva grabbed his hand.

Orion and Caelan pulled him back.

The darkness surrounded them.

---

Then something unexpected happened.

A tiny golden bird flew through the darkness.

The same bird they had saved at the Lighthouse.

It landed on Riva's shoulder.

Its golden light pushed the darkness away.

Elara stared at it.

"Hope..."

The bird chirped.

The Flame of Hope inside the key burned brighter.

The Last Unwriter raised his hand.

His Flame of Memory joined it.

Blue and gold light spread across the Archives.

---

Riva understood.

The Flames weren't weapons.

They were reminders.

Hope reminded people that the future still existed.

Memory reminded them that the past mattered.

She looked at Elara.

"You don't need to be erased."

Elara froze.

"What?"

Riva stepped closer.

"You want to be remembered."

"Not feared."

"Not worshipped."

"Just remembered."

The creature's enormous body trembled.

For the first time...

Its thousands of eyes began crying silver tears.

---

Riva opened Eva's notebook.

She wrote one word.

ELARA

Then another.

FIRST KEEPER.

Then another.

REMEMBERED.

The name began glowing.

The entire Archives responded.

Books opened.

Pages filled with Elara's name.

Across the worlds...

People began remembering.

A forgotten name returned to history.

---

Elara screamed.

Not in anger.

In pain.

Her monstrous form began breaking apart.

The darkness peeled away.

The memories returned to the books.

Her true form appeared.

A young woman with black hair and silver eyes.

She looked at Riva.

"You remembered me."

Riva smiled.

"You were never supposed to be forgotten."

---

Elara slowly reached toward Riva.

But before she could touch her...

A black crack appeared across the sky.

Something else was coming.

Elara's expression changed.

"No..."

Riva looked upward.

"What?"

Elara whispered:

"Remembering me has opened the final door."

The Archives suddenly became completely silent.

Every book closed.

Every light disappeared.

Then...

A voice older than Elara echoed through the darkness.

"If she has been remembered..."

"...then I can return."

The silver key shattered.

Riva stared at the broken pieces in horror.

The two Flames flew into the darkness.

And somewhere beyond the collapsing Archives...

The First Gate opened.
