Chapter 9 – The Younger Sisters

The births of Elayne and Rhosyn, the youngest sisters, brought new energy and tenderness to the Valemont home. The family now had three boys and four girls, a perfect balance that seemed almost preordained.

Alaric, now older, took his role as the eldest son seriously. He was protective of his sisters, especially during the cold months when the snow threatened to bite at their tiny hands and feet. He learned to fetch blankets, assist in feeding, and even play nurse when the younger ones were ill.

Seraphine and Liora guided him in these tasks, teaching him patience, empathy, and the subtle ways of caring for family. Edric smiled at this, seeing in Alaric the makings of a leader—not just of men, but of hearts.

Mariel, exhausted but satisfied, reflected on the full circle of her family. Seven children, each unique, each carrying a fragment of her and Edric's legacy, all thriving under the roof of Greyholt Vale. The house was no longer just a keep; it was a world, a kingdom of laughter, lessons, and growing love.
