Chapter 8 – The Third Son

Corvin's birth was quickly followed by Mathen, the third son. Alaric now had two younger brothers, and the dynamics of the household shifted again. Rivalries formed, alliances were tested, and the older sisters learned the delicate art of mediation.

In the courtyard, Alaric practiced leading his brothers in games of mock combat, imagining himself commanding armies as his father did. Corvin, more cautious, followed orders, while Mathen, fiery and bold, often broke ranks, testing Alaric's patience.

Edric and Mariel watched these interactions carefully. The Valemont sons would one day inherit lands, titles, and power, and these early lessons in leadership, negotiation, and authority were crucial.

Yet, beneath the instruction, there was warmth. Laughter echoed in the hallways, and arguments were quickly forgiven. Greyholt Vale, though large and sometimes intimidating, was alive with the voices of children learning to claim their place in the world.
